  • @ThisAsianDude

I would prefer a sharpend Katana over everything else when it comes to a rise of the zombies.

Fuck railguns (made one once) and all other weapons.

  • I work at Navy Lakehurst, for 22 years doing steam catapult launch - EMALS is being tested again this week and falling short of expectations. NOT ONE SHOT shown in this video would have gotten that F18 off the flight deck. This weeks tests were horrid (IMHO) with few passable shots and many flubs that would have put a 2 billion dollar jet in the ocean and a pilot ejecting, hopefully far enough from the carrier to not get ran over by it.

  • @NJBeemaster well i would say that if you worked for the navy for 22 years you would know that the f18 doesnt cost anywhere near 2 billion dollars, not even close, thats close to what a b2 stealth bomber costs. so are you perhaps a chinese or russian troll?

  • so will my steel-toe boots stick to the deck when this thing flings a plane of a carrier?

  • lôl_î_fÊÉl_sõ_lÔNèlÿ_tóÐay

  • @ThisAsianDude

By launching hippies at super sonic speeds to decapitate zombie masses :)

  • I'll miss the steam :/

  • I read about the pending Zombie apocalypse - the real deal...it's in the water saw it on Fringe. LOL

  • Social Program = useless, people are just going to rely and abuse it.

Where the 5th gen super fighter?

    I want my F-22E.......

  • no need to waste fuel on afterburners too. makes sense.

  • The jet actually launches at 1:54 in case you're wondering...

  • America uses this tech to launch jet fighters. China uses it to make bullet trains. America can soon not afford carriers. China will soon build them.

  • @TheBooban You mean the 7 Km MagLev they builded with german technology? Is almost pointless in terms of cost/utility, a propaganda tool. A total waste in marketing.

  • @Buran01

Maybe, but moving thousands of people daily is so much more of a waste as compared to the cost/utility of launching a 1 or 2 seat aeroplane to buzz around over the water? I'm not anti military, but at some point one has to wake up that spending billions on future economy generating infrastructure is less of a waste than billions in building cool things to go make boom.

  • @TheBooban hate to break it to you, but a great deal of technological innovations used in the civilian world to boost the future economy come from military inventions such as this.

  • @Giants2082 Only in America because most of the government supported R&D is for the military. It would have been far more efficient to invest in civilian R&D and then use those applications for the military, such as investing in trains first, then launch fighter jets.

The military is an insurance policy, but to afford it you need a strong economy first.

  • @TheBooban Your an idiot. If you want to speak politics and such go to a conspiracy channel I'm sure they would enjoy your idiocy. This is something you can't do, give these guys credit. Fuck China.

  • @USAGamingMW2 Hah, its just a simple truth. Does it hurt? There are far worse political commentary all over the web made by polarized Americans, and you want to censor this little tid bit? You sound like the Chinese government.

  • @TheBooban

You people in China think our discussions and disagreements are a weakness but could not be more wrong. It's true we're not as homogeneous as you, the Japanese or Scandinavians, but make no mistake, that is a strength, not a weakness.

  • @XKS99 Not at all, it is definitely a strength. Unfortunately the idiots have been wining your debates too often. USA prosperity is because of its large single market. But any large empire can be led to ruin from the top.

  • @virustwin

how about you read the video description first

  • so does this mean shorter runways on carriers? if not, what are the practical aspects of employing this? and what about the power consumption issues of the railgun technology? please, intelligent answers only

  • @ThisAsianDude indeed

  • This is less dangerous than the steam driven piston system currently used. The EMALS also has less points of failure. I received this information from a colleague who is former USAF.

I guess according to some, reducing danger to human lives is a waste of money.

  • @theoneandonlyjonasv, while working on my doctorate, I accepted money to use terahertz to monitor the health of turbine blade coatings on USAF aircraft. While my logic at the time that it is good to work to make aircrafts safer, the reality that the aircrafts are used to kill people makes the "reducing danger to human lives" a bit moot. Science is awesome, but both lives and money could be saved if everyone stopped developing warcrafts.

  • @jadenaturals

Nobody w/ any sense likes war or killing, but the fact is that there are plenty of crazy people who are eager to maim or kill you because they want what you have or they just plain hate you. The ethics of self-defense are pretty simple, if you don't want you or your family to be victims, you better have a way to defend yourself. That same equation works at every level, from the inter-personal, to the international.

  • The amount of time it takes just to set it up and we are already dead.

  • My neck hurts...

  • boaring shit

  • kirah4ck3r, if you're going to post the same shit twice, at least check your spelling.

  • @kirah4ck3r "boring" u fucking idiot.

  • boaring

  • @ThisAsianDude It may lead on to technologies that allow us to have guns that fire metal really, really fast through multiple zombies.

    Zombie chunks everywhere.

  • @Rocketcrab32 yer us aussies already have that search metal storm in search bar

  • Emals have the advantage(s) of : more power, drastically reduces steam demand, requires less space, safer, fewer moving parts, no steam pipeworks. Only downside is that is requires TONS of electricity...an acceptable tradeoff tho.

  • It will save the US military alots of money if this system delivers what it promises.

  • The hornet isn't using the after-burner.. Does it mean this new catapalt is strong enough to launch an aircraft without using full power or this experiment is taken in a control place therefore not needing a full power? I also noticed that there is no heat deflector.. So I guess this is definitely stronger than the old one :)

  • @g2findagoodusername

I think is just for safety

  • @g2findagoodusername It is definitely stronger. One reason we developed it is because jets are getting heavier and the steam powered system was approaching its limit. That and it is kick-ass because it can change its speed halfway through the launch to ensure an excellent takeoff.

  • First thing to my mind after seeing this is a Gundam launcher..... anyone else think of that?

  • @KevinFirm sooo brainwashed, hope someday you would open your eyes!

  • @ThisAsianDude imagine there are 500 zombies chasing you and one emals launch-ready F-18 in front of u lol.

  • this is NOT a railgun

this is an electric linear induction motor

a railgun is a direct current homopolar motor

  • I am guessing they are trying to put these on carriers? seems like a great idea for small runways on land. would make for much much shorter runways on the front line.

  • @straighttailpilot

I thought the same thing, but then I figured it would probably take a lot more manpower and resources to install this system than to simply build a longer runway. It would also be a much more labor intensive and more dangerous way to take off.

  • @thewingman1 youre right. but can you imagine trying to spot a 800 ft runway? that would be great for covert operations. im just thinking like a carrier a movable launchpad you know. but you never know.

  • So, how did we get talking about who's stupid and better than everyone else? It's a video of a new launch system for crying out loud.

  • The question I have is how much will it cost (time and money) to repair one of these new catapults when it breaks? The one benefit to the current catapult, as I understand, is that they are pretty reliable. It will be nice to see how reliable and cost-effective this new design might be.

  • @SkipnJen Railguns have very few moving parts, it's two metal tracks with a metal bar going across them.

  • @johster read a book whore

  • @woopazz8 learn to spell

  • @boca10205 And as long as there are people in the world like you, we will have to continue doing so. Haha brainwashed... How about blinded by jealousy.

  • @joshter2007 A war we won "ON OUR OWN"; the civil war... Seriously, people call us Americans ignorant. And that makes you..?

  • @admx94 your remtarded that was a war between states not as a country

  • @joshster2007 No shit Sherlock... Name a war you've won on your own. It's true, the Civil War was won on our own... Way to add the "as a country" part. I would still be right anyway because the South wanted a seperate country from the Union (or to capture the North if possible). Luckily the Union (America) won, the south was named Hickland for all i care. SO... "America" won, and on it's own.

  • @admx94 firstly the Falklands War, First Boer War, Second Boer War, War of Jenkins' Ear, First Opium War and many many more have been won by the British and congratulations you beat your self :D

  • @ThisAsianDude See shopping cart comment ^.^

  • @MystiK570

    calm down ma boi :P

this EMALS is pretty cool, but dont they have it already on aircraft carriers?

  • I did you see Randy Quaid from the movie "Independence Day" at 1:08?

  • I wonder if all that electromagnetism will fry a sailor's nuts?

    The Meltdownman

  • Too bad Hot Wheels thought of this like a century ago.

  • @blackspider3d Still butt hurt over WW2?

  • Tecnology by Wright Brothers catapult LOL.

  • I guess the Navy isn't going to go with my idea of using rubber bands

  • cool

  • US should spend more money on military. Just cut the useless social programs.

  • @jay1wo i hope this was ironical. if not you have a duckload of shit in your brain.

  • @jay1wo AMERICA FUCK YEAH

  • @jay1wo i am from india and even i agrea with this. us has such colls stuff

  • @jay1wo big deal. we can already do that with steam. how much did that cost. billions to do something we can already do. I guess we should draft everyone and cut all social programs

  • this system is a lot less bulkier than steam components and more water can be used for sailors instead of boiling it off for steam catapult.

  • @ThisAsianDude Obviously, we use this to fire shopping carts at the zombies. I believe someone below was volunteering to test the prototype.

  • Hopefully, if the Navy is able to test and refine the heck out of this system and get it up to mil-spec reliability standards, NASA can then hook up chains of these as a kind of first-stage booster to propel objects into orbit. They'll be able to take the parts "off the shelf" and save on costs.... I gotta say, living in the future is so cool. :D

  • @fireandchutes77 they could put it on a space port in the out atmosphere or on the moon and get a reliable launch for deep space probes

  • Now if we can only keep this technology under US control and out of the hands of our enemies.

  • @lbcjester no way man, the world want to get their hands on it bad. They'll literally "kill for it", "die for it"

  • We have some real idiots posting comments here. And we have some intelligent comments. Easy to see the difference.

  • The blue cammo looks gay! So does a Sailor in the Marine uniform they wear now!

  • bologni

  • phew. for a second I thought they forgot to attach a plane to it.

  • so is this how fast my emails are going to be sent on the future 5G network?

  • this is random but i don't get why people are so obsessed with military size? So what if China has more soldiers or America has the best military arsenal? Most of the superpower countries have nukes. Anyone dare invading any countries possessing nukes are asking for it.

  • @Quy4life That depends, really. Just because two great powers or superpowers go to war doesn't necessarily mean nuclear weapons will be used. For example, why would China risk using nuclear weapons against the United States? The US has massively superior firepower in that regard. If China nuked a carrier group the US would likely respond by nuking ten or twenty critical military targets in China.

  • @J801506 maybe mythbusters will do it LOL

  • A small step in the militarization of the world, one giant expense on taxpayers' bill.

  • hmm cool... whatever

  • I thought it said "Navy launches first aircraft using email" lol

  • i'm all for the military, but what is so special about this?

  • @SuperDrinkin faster liftoff LOL

  • wtf is an emal?

  • @landsolo

Damn bro, you're edgy as fuck.

  • @landsolo Remember your post when the shit hits the fan in Korea, if this saves one American or Service members life it will be worth it. It’s called Patriotism get some. And if you could have been bothered to read the description the 20+ year old system isn't working any more.. Maybe if you'd do more than complain about YouTube videos and got out and did something about the 9/11 heroes you wouldn't be such a "cunt" as you so eloquently put it.

  • @landsolo

Current catapults use steam to launch aircraft. That means lots of mechanical parts that need to be maintained. EMALS will mean that our future aircraft carriers will require less personnel to run which means they'll cost less to deploy.

But by your logic, maybe we should just deploy enormous sails to power our aircraft carriers since that worked for several thousand years before the introduction of steam?

  • @landsolo The system has been used for 50 years and isnt cuting it anymore due to heavier and better aircrafts. There are two soultions the way I see it. The runway for it or a upgraded system. The new system would pay for itself in the long run as eventually old things must be replaced. THis is definatly worth the cost as being able to put more aircrafts in the sky faster and more efficent may save more lives on the battlefeild.

  • this is how we send emails now?

  • EMALS = Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System

EMAILS = i am way to fucking tired to think of something witty. merry christmas

  • Wow, that airplane goes from 0 to takeoff in about 4 seconds.

  • I don't get it... They already use those on ships..

  • @gotitans999 they old system was STEAM powered

  • @gotitans999 Except this one is powered by electromagnets, and it's more efficient and produces more speed.

  • thanks

  • How is this different then steam catapult?

  • I dnt get this

  • Master at arms second class petty officer, served in camp delta Guantanamo bay Cuba. Joint Task Force Bravo 7.0 representing! Go NAVY!

  • ... so what does this do, i have no idea how those tracks made this launch any difference. is it supposed to help launch in a shorter distance?

  • @thorfoxxx The Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System uses Electromagnets to launch the aircraft rather than a steam power launcher. This way it's more efficient in launching lighter aircraft and heavier aircraft alike. Current Steam Launchers are almost at their limit of launching current and upcoming aircraft that are heavier than their predecessors.

  • Great, now lets do something about kim jong. This new system will really come in useful especially with the new X47B's.

  • Fuck UPS, I'm callin these guys!

  • @J801506 no leave that to johnny knoxville

  • I gotta change my e-mail provider, this shit is fast.

  • @KevinFirm yes usa rocks, they prefer wasting billions of dollars on technology thats used to kill people such as guns, jets, rockets, and so on instead of using that money to help the people in need in this world. I got to say it you patriotism for this country is your biggest flaw, you have been oficially brainwashed, but dont worry you are only one of the millions who are blind.

  • @boca10205 go navy

  • @boca10205 leaders always having haters, you really think that there could be a world without war? If you do, u are one of the most stupid persons there are, we americans are strong, fighters, and we always will be. Therefore and to protect our freedom, and because we americans love technolgoy we will developing better weapons. And one day, the world will thank us for that.

And why should we pay for others, if there not able to to it themselves, first we have to protect ourselves, than other

  • emals or Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System are used on modern roller coasters..superman ride at six flags..same shit

  • I love my country, if u see the latest military technology, laser guns, uavs, it's like a science fiction movie but it's here, we rock

  • hey cool worlds first jet launched by emails

  • @ChrisOctoberhallowee it's emAl, can nobody read

  • Worlds 1st jet launched by emails

  • cool story bro

  • My years taxes just paid for that. Ya, you're welcome

  • @GrenadeCatcher- lol

  • @GrenadeCatcher u don't think that this is a better use of taxdollars, than what obama does, using it to rise our debt to 1.8 Trillion and still giving money other nations

  • @KevinFirm Any politician is pretty much a criminal be it obama, bush or your local senator. Im not going to get into a political battle about how my money is spent because once they take my taxes i have no say in how its spent.

  • @KevinFirm

I guess you are that Brain washed that you can't even remember that your DEBT is caused by the billions you spend each weeks for the IRAK war about controlling petrol industries in USA... You are such a moron to think your way. Obama was given a a country opressed with all of Bush's bad moves: war, rocket, all for petrolum that He and his buddy will get rich with it will you moron citizens fight for what he lies to you about...

  • @hunbraze Iraq*

  • @hunbraze if i recall usa was in better shape two years ago vs now stop blaming bush

  • @KevinFirm

    @KevinFirm

I guess you are that Brain washed that you can't even remember that your DEBT is caused by the billions you spend each weeks for the IRAK war about controlling petrol industries in USA... • @KevinFirm You think billions and billions of tax payer money going to the military industrial complex has nothing to do with our deficit??? Keep watching Fox News you fuckin warmonger!!

  • @GrenadeCatcher thank you

  • EPIC FACEPLANT AT /watch?v=UpDhKb-cBn0

  • U.S mother fucking .A!!!!!!!

  • insane

  • (Electro Magnetic Aircraft Launching System)

  • There goes $1000 fuel money

  • the EMALS will save a lot of aircraft from going into water from bad steel cables breaking

  • Meh

  • i can't seem to understand this system already exist on all aircraft carrier !!!

  • The system is different from the ones on the aircraft carriers. This one is the new version, using electricity like the rail gun, instead of the steam poweredones they use now.

  • Problem gravity?

  • The vid looks speeded up when it starts to launch ??

  • @perrin6 No, it's just insane acceleration

  • soo if the emals for some reason fail!! you will crashh and explode inmediately -_-

  • Wtf no emails

  • how do they make sure the EM radiation doesnt hurt electronics?

  • @Blaksword67 in aerospace electronics they use an alloy called mu metal that effectively shields sensitive electronics when and where necessary

  • @Blaksword67 they are all shielded. rofl. WOW.

  • i cant reat titles...

  • "approaching the limits of the steam catapult" doesn't mean this fancy new system is required. Is it cheaper? Somehow I doubt it.

  • @alc99 its not required to use the stream catapiult, read the comment in the highest rated. Theres no reason to prolong the shift.

  • thats one powerfull email

  • Be nice to see how fast you can reload.

  • i taught they always done that
