I just finished re-watching this awesome movie and came here looking for the ending song. Strange Days should be better known, but then again, the movie's more special to me when it's not ~popular~
A brilliant but surprisingly underrated movie of the 90s. This song is just so cool and futuristic sounding. I actually sat thru the credits just to hear this song!
Might be one of the most underrated and under-seen movies. Fine soundtrack And Feinnes and Basset take over the screen. Point Blank is not as good but still good. The movie was released at the wrong time, wrong place .. after the OJ trial.
Why did Kathryn Bigelow not get recognised until 'The Hurt Locker'? This (and Near Dark) were superb movies. Even point break is a watchable popcorn action flick. She's got talent.
Anyway - great end sequence and song to a great movie.
This movie didn't fare well at the box office because it was WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY ahead of it's time. Brilliant acting. story, dark suspense, and one of the best scores....also ahead of its time.
Just watched this movie again. Good times and definitely an underrated gem. This is the movie that made me realize that Angela Bassett is smokin hot. And I love the music, especially this song!!!
This and POint Break were the 90's highlights for me as far as cinema. And maybe Heat as well. It's purely coincidental that they were both directed by Kath Bigelow. I don't know why Strange days didn't find a market because I was floored by this movie. I thought Fiennes was a bit miscast but that being said, the spirit of this movie was so great. I miss the 90's so much after watching it and hearing this song.
Are there any ideas as to what Peter Gabriel is singing outside of the established 4 lines of Macedonian here, or any of the other lyrics in the song at all?
@KakunoBuddha Uh because Kathryn Bigs rocks? DUH! Near Dark, Point Break + the mind behind Terminator... not rocket science, obvious it turned out so awesome.
@KakunoBuddha James was busy working on either t2 or the abyss (his best imo). Thats the only reason he didn't direct this one. It's def a sleeper hit though.
This film is so nostalgic to me. Especially when the credits come on. The song is just pure 90's style goodness. The part where you see brigitte bako's name and that other instrument comes in,PURE NOSTALGIA
@Blastaar7 You read my mind. I was a college kid in 95. This flick gave me so many dreams. I can't begin to explain. THis and Point Break both by Bigelow.
@navylaks2 Not a good writer? Are mainly kids saying this? Regarding Avatar? If so, Avatar was a mediocre, under-whelming script from a director that people have higher expectations from. I wouldn't say he was a bad writer based on this one blight.
@walkabou5 well unfortunately Katherine Bigelow (who was together with James Cameron) hasn't been able to make a film like this since they broke up. fucking James Cameron
Strange Days is underrated masterpiece - unique storyline, great acting, directing, producing...
Ralph Fiennes (Lenny Nero) is always brilliant no matter it's comedy, drama or sci-fi movie. Angela Bassett did a great job as well. The final kiss scene was so sweet.
I don't know why but this film reminds me another underrated SCI-FI/Action movies of the 90's - The Lawnmower Man, Johnny Mnemonic, Deathline (Redline), New World Disorder, Futuresport, Barb Wire......
I never actually saw this movie. Just one night, I turn on the TV while browsing the internet, and this movie is on. And I don't pay much attention to it, until the credits come and this music play.
Then I wanted to find out what the score of the movie was... Pretty nice.
Definitely one the most underated movies of the 90's. This movie deserves a kick-ass re-release on dvd, with like tons of extra cool stuff on it. Everything about this movie was fabulous. And the soundtrack is the bomb! The best soundtrack I have ever purchased, I listen to it almost daily. This is definitely one of the best songs I have ever heard in my life, even though I don't understand the lyrics.
@galaxystar1000 Awesome Right on. 100% agree. If I had been in charge of the Oscars at that time I would have nominated Angela Bassett and Ralpha Fiennes for sure. And Kathryn Bigelow. Etc!!!!
@galaxystar1000 Original Macedonian: Dali znaesh mila majko shto sum ne srekjna Cel den doma sama sedam Nadvor ne smejam English Translation: Do you know, mother, How unlucky I am? All day I sit at home, I am not allowed outside This is an old Macedonian rhyme
This is by far one of my all time favorite movies. Everything about it was just so riveting and well put together. I really wish I got to see it on the big screen back then though. This ending credit sequence is just beautiful and will certainly stick with me forever.
I did see it on probably the 2nd or 3rd day after it's release. It was great, except the film broke right before you saw the killer's reflection in the last brain tape! On the other hand, I was tripping. =D
though what is being said i can not understand, i still love this song.. like many of u, i first heard it from this wonderful movie.. which btw was EXTRAORDINARY! man i miss the 90's
Simply AWESOME...I discovered Deep Forest through this wonderful movie. It's a sci-fi classic right up there with Blade Runner with it's vision of a dark future where humanity and hope are the only things left to save the day. If i ever made a soundtrack for my life, this would definitely have to be included!
Thank you kindly for the response. I saw the 'While the Earth Sleeps' CD, but as it is rare, Ebay/Amazon wants a crap load of money for it. Again many thanks to you!
This song sums up the movie quite perfectly. I nice round out to a 'cult classic'. Fiennes 'Lenny', scummy as he is, is a character that grows on you.
One of the best parts of this movie is when Lenny is meeting a new client. The way he describes wire tripping is hypnotic. Let's face it folks who wouldn't want to have someone else's experiences that were outside their own...for "the right twenty minutes."
Just rewatched the DVD of this movie again, and STILL I am mesmerized by the ingenious filmaking and acting by all in this film! Killer directing, acting, cinemetography, soundtrack and writing just made this movie a classic for me and definitely one of my faves! Really, I think that this film was waaay before it's time. RF as Lenny Nero was just such a tragic/complex anti hero and I LOVED his relationship with Mace. AB/RF were golden as well as the entire cast! Bravo to all involved!

The language being sung is Japanese, though there may be others mixed into the chorus. It's a shame there are credits for darn near everything but that. Look for videos from Kawamura Ryuichi.
I had the fortune to see this film on New Year's Eve 2000 at a party. The film should only be watched on New Year's Eve. Kathryn Bigelow is an awsome underrated director and this for me is her best film.
The whole film's like one huge party, stunning, a real head trip and this closing credits track just sums up new year, new millenium - its almost emotional.
Payparty, you summed it up just right. It IS emotional for me, and actually, one of the very highlights of this film for me is the ending credits. i just saw this movie, and when the credits rolled i just thought "man, i've got to find that song! too bad i'll probably newer find it." and here it is :)
The best ending credits ever, the photos are awesome, I never forget the impression the first viewing of this movie left on me, much thanks to this sequence.
This movie was directed by Katheryn Bigelow, ex James Cameron wife. The movie script is from Cameron's. It's an impressive movie and Katheryn did a good work using the Cameron's idea.
I loved the movie since I watched it on VHS (in Spain was barely released in cinemas). I always felt hypontised by the end credits. Lenny Nero is a really unforgettable character...
I really didn't want to see the movie at first when it came out in theatres because I had read some bad reviews, but my then-girlfriend convinced me to go anyway.
I've been taking movie critics' judgements with a grain of salt ever since then. Great movie, brilliant soundtrack, and the ending credits are still some of the best around. The still images add so much to the atmosphere...
Yeah, this is a great film. I have to admit, when Mace looks like she's about to punch Lenny out and says "Memories are designed to fade for a reason", I was nearly driven to tears. Lenny was just like an addict...clinging to memories that he refused to let go of.
If this song makes you want to cry then you should check out Lori Carson & Graeme Revell - Fall in the Light, also from the movie Strange Days. It's playing during the last scene and it gets me every. single. time.
Deep forest...un finale anthologique...un grand film...Vincent d`Onofrio et les autres au sommet.

The best ending credits ever, the photos are awesome, I never forget the impression the first viewing of this movie left on me, much thanks to this sequence.

It's a rare occurrence when one gets goose bumps from the imagery in a film's ending credits, but it's definitely the case here.

Thanks for putting this up! Strange Days is a fabulous movie and this is a great song, some of Gabriel's best latter-day work.

This movie was directed by Katheryn Bigelow, ex James Cameron wife. The movie script is from Cameron's. It's an impressive movie and Katheryn did a good work using the Cameron's idea.

"Do you know, mother,
How unlucky I am?
All day I sit at home,
I am not allowed outside"

The film, the music and all the actors are super slick. One of my all time favourite movies. Totally underrated.

Great movie and some great music.

Thanks for posting this.

Oh yeah, and PG is the man.

Yeah, this is a great film. I have to admit, when Mace looks like she's about to punch Lenny out and says "Memories are designed to fade for a reason", I was nearly driven to tears. Lenny was just like an addict...clinging to memories that he refused to let go of.

a film that simply defies time, this does not look like it was made in 1995 at all. i really like this film!

I don't know why but the song makes me wanna cry...
abSOULuteD 4 years ago
If this song makes you want to cry then you should check out Lori Carson & Graeme Revell - Fall in the Light, also from the movie Strange Days. It's playing during the last scene and it gets me every. single. time.
