Thanks for the video... I was there in 5 th grade Mr, Seagull's class, Ramona school.
It took the roof off our room, well tarpaper, rocks and stuff so we could see the sky.
The Daily Breeze took our picture looking through it. Didn't hurt my house just off Ramona & 141st St. Cant wait to show my daughters this video thanks again. J.R.
I remember that day and tornado. I was in first grade at Eucalyptus school in Mrs. Wolverton's classroom when it hit. I remember that whomever said "Silence, Take Cover" said it as the tornado hit the building. I remember lots of flying glass and square ceiling tiles, wind and the pea gravel that they put on the roof was blowing around and felt like getting sandblasted --they stung. I don't remember much after that, except that Mrs. Wolverton looked scared and small standing in the corner..
I remember this tornado. I was attending Eucalyptus Elementary. I was in the 3rd grade. I was sharpening my pencil when small trees just layed down and the teacher yelled, "get under your desks NOW!" Windows broke and the awning that guarded us from the sun, rolled up like a top in the loudest sound I had ever heard. We weren't sure what to do. Our parents didn't pick us up. I asked a teacher, and my picture was taken. I was on the front page of the Daily Breeze. "Teacher Comforts 2 children.
I was at Ramona Elementary, 5th grade. I remember being bored, listening to my teacher and looking out the window. I raised my hand and asked what that was pointing to the tornado. We had to duck and cover. One of our friends had their roof blown about 2 miles away. We all had to wait in the cafeteria for our parents because there were so many hot electrical wires down. Thanks for sharing this awesome video!!

I remember this day. I just turned 8 and was at school. Cool vid looking at the cars and ppl back then. I never actually got to see any damage that was done.
@buttlamo: I'm sorry but what kind of crack were you smoking? Tornadoes can hit anywhere, really. It doesn't quite take a rocket scientist to figure that out *rolls eyes*.
What a great video. I have talked about that tornado many times, but who would of ever thought they would find video of it. I was in class also, and remember the kids rushing to the window.I ran over there and remember seeing umbrella's flying up in the air. Then I remember the teacher telling us to get away from the window and to get away from the desk. I may have been one of your classmates. Thanks for sharing .What a great way to bring back an old memory.
Global corporate government is messing with the weather. Cloud seeding seems to be on the rise this year, but it's been going on since at least the 60s. We'll never know when the first tornado ever hit because we lack the technology to research it ...just like global warming. It's based on extrapolation.
I grew up in Hawthorne and always heard the story from my grandmother and parents about the tornado that hit Hawthorne. I never saw footage. Great vid!
I grew up in Hawthorne now live in Torrance. Seeing this video gives me a nostalgic feel even though I was born in 1980 but I would have loved to be in this decade.
I remember this day very well. I was in 3rd grade @ Eucalyptus School. It was raining hard when there was a big clap of thunder. Our teacher was reading the class a book when she made a comment "See even the birds are looking for food." All of a sudden those birds pickup up a picnic table from one of the homes behind the school and flung it at our building. "Then someone yelled out "silence take cover!" We all got under our desks, and the tornado hit.
Let The Wind Blow and Falls Breaks & Back To Winter (WWoodpecker Symphony) [I believe]. Well done. Nasty storm. Any relation to Smile turmoil? Thanks.

tTornadoes in California are rare. California is more earthquake-prone than tornado-prone.
