  • Mitsubishi just announced that the iMiEV will soon be using Panasonic's new SCiB batteries that recharge in only 15 minutes. Cool. I spend that amount of time waiting in line for gas each week.

  • Soon you will not have to recharge at all, with the fuelless engine. You will have a car that can travel the whole of African continent without refuelling.

  • i think for the right price and i had the the money i would by one for trips over 30 miles but i still want to keep a gas car but i just wish they would make them look like american cars like if they made one with the styling of a mustang or other sport cars.

  • @TrullyJustBrowsing2 too easy, and the greedy oil companies would find a way to screw us anyway.

  • After the observation of the Japanese industry adopting US high pricing scam, I am confident my first electric car will be made in China.

Jobs creation for America and Japanese industry is just a joke when businesses envy Wall St like addicted to scams. Industrial revolution is only a history vocab only.

  • They should set up a test drive like this where I live in Arizona! I'd love to try the car out

  • @TrullyJustBrowsing2: I think that is wonderful idea. If EV had quick battery replacement dock ( Like a toy car..If you know what I mean..). Also service station (rest stops) on motorways would do great tade by having high electric charge points so that you can charge the Mitsubishi i MiEV in 30 minutes ! It is the ONLY car WILL and MUST drive when I get my drivers licence for 2011 and beyond !

  • @TrullyJustBrowsing2 Google 'Better Place . com"

  • @tigersoup It's Petrol that's too pricey. The MiEv costs approx $0.02/mile to run - about 1/10th that of an equivalent ICE car. The MiEV isn't 'cheap' to purchase but Mitsubishi haven't cranked up production volume yet.

  • heater? the old VW Beetles didn't come with heaters at all! You had them as an 'option', and they were gas ! Don't remember any blowing up either - that was the Pinto.

  • As of today - 2010 May 4 - there is still no commercially available & affordable ($10,000 to $20,000) electric-only vehicle in the United States that is allowe to drive on all roads that gas cars can. It is sickening. All the fault of the oil companies & big automakers all those who support them: everyone who votes for a Democrat & Republican instead of a Socialist, Green or Libertarian.

  • Gr8 Car !

  • Why does everyone get caught up with the distance an EV can travel per charge. So what, you have to plug in your car at night while it's parked up doing nothing like any petrol car. Plus u can charge it from more places than there are gas stations. I agree with knowledge of max speed due to speed limits on different roads that will be traveled.

  • Why should pure electric car so expensive? They are all old technology. What is going on in this eV evolution?

  • I'd like very much for my car to be low noise - I would find it futuristic - But I'd also like double glass windows- mabee with warm air circulation to defrost in the winter

  • fuck the auto makers..i wonder why they built their electric cars with this ugly design..maybe to guive them bad reputation..i would totaly buy an electric car their faster, quiet, no oil expenses BUT I WOULD BE AXAMED TO DRIVE THIS PIECE OF SHIT..let's follow TESLA example ok

  • you can't afford a tesla, thats why they have to make this ugly, cheap one for you.

And aren't you "axamed" to drive your current piece of shit anyway?

  • thanx tsport100

  • how would the heater be powered especially in winter canada style!!!!!

  • Heat Pump, like a reverse cycle AC.

  • wau....nice mitsubishi electric car....no fuel needed?? how much this car cost??

and to charge car battery....how long does it take?? wau....nice one cute.....this eletrical car can run fast like other petrol car?? nice......cute one....

  • how many batteries have got i-miev??

    thanks

  • hallo!!!iam really intrested in a electric car..iam wondering how much it will cost and how long it takes to charge the battery???

  • Cost will be around £30,000

    Charge times:

    - Quick charge - 80% - 20mins

    - Full charge - 200v 5/7 hours

Range is roughly 80-100 miles with a maximum speed on 80mph

  • Plus tax is £30 quid a year and you can park it anywhere with no parking charges

  • Tax a year is £0.

Mate, I don't think you know what your talking about.

  • I was wrong about the tax hands up, I work for Mitsubishi Motors, and it isnt going to be that cheap at all. Have you evendriven in one, i dont think so

  • To be honest, I don't belive that you work for Mitsubishi at all. I honestly think Ive got a better chance at my local Mitsubishi garage than you, someone, who thinks 'ANY' full electric car is gonna have tax.

As to your second point, your clearly wrong so before you put any more money where your mouth is (And lose it), shut up.

  • £30 a year??? even small diesel cars are free!

  • It's gonna be about £15,000 so get a grip mate.

  • this electric sound good.

  • Hey car companies,

This is what I want: A plug in electric car with high performance batteries for a long trip(more than 300klm).You have the technology to this this today.Make that car today and the profits will be astounding.

  • It's called the Tesla Roadster, officially has over 380km range, knock yourself out.

  • I don't think so. This car isn't very useful for the typical Japanese family who only has space for one car, and would use the same car for everything. An electric car like this is better sutied for American multi-car families, to be used as a dedicated commuting car for one family member.

  • ya but the japanese arnt that big and a typical family is 3 or 4 members

  • This car has now been confirmed for the Australian market, with a showroom target in the final months of 2009 and a starting price in the AUD$30,000 range.

  • love how they make them tiny when they could make them the normal size...yes some of it's less use of electricity but with tiny sizes t

  • I'm guessing you must be American, used to bigger is better theory, I think the car I currently drive is the same size or even smaller than this car and its a normal 4 stroke petrol car. BTW I drive a Fiat Panda

  • yeah big woop I'm american but no I'm not a hick bigger is better dbag. I just want something thats surely safe cuz I'm likely to use the highway and higher speed roads based on where I live and to get to where I need to go...lots of roads near here are 55 speed limit and if there's ever the possibility of an accident I don't want to die.

  • and by bigger I mean midsized I don't care for trucks I'm fine with cars just want space if I need to carry anything in it and safety

  • You might have noticed there's no engine taking up space in the front of this car so for a car with such a small footprint it will be fairly spacious inside. More car = more weight = bigger everything to suppport more weight.

On the question of safety manufacturers have been making body shells from high tensile steels since 2005 after Ford got sued and lost big time for building SUVs from steel that just collapsed in rollovers and that they knew to be rubbish.

  • If it was bigger it could have the opportunity to have more batteries for better range.

  • If it was the petrol ICE version the 'range' wouldn't even be quoted.

  • i think it's about time that we have this car. the electric cars are so much nicer than the hydrogen fuel cell cars. the electric car has already been proven to work more efficently then the hydrogen fuel cell. so i can't wait for this car to come out in the u.s. I hate GM so much for destroying the ev1's. no wonder their about to go Bankruptcy

  • don't hold your breath till thhese cars are on the market. this may never happen!

  • They're already selling them in Japan it's based on an ICE car already in production and plan to sell the EV version in the US by 2010.

  • Yep...and they're priced around $10,000 - $13,000 according to Road & Track. And get about 100 mile range. Pretty incredible!

GM really f*cked up when they axed the EV1. They are SO far behind Japan right now...it's pathetic. They are touting that the Chevy Volt will get a 45 mile range on battery power. And it's not even a FULL electric vehicle. It's a hybrid. AND it won't be available for 2 more years! Way to go GM! Pffffffffffttttttttttt!!!

  • Please sell these in the Greece. We are so ready for them.I WANT THIS CAR!!!

  • φίλε δεν βλέπω να φτάνουν τέτοια αυτοκίνητα σ' εμάς.Υπάρχουν νομικά προβλήματα.Γιατί ρε γαμώτο να είμαστε πάντα τελευταίοι??

  • cant wait i will test drive this next month in morioka. and put my reserve down . also this will be powered off solar panels not the grid

  • what is that one cars name, the one with the 8 wheels?? i wonder if that car inspired mitsubishi to make an electric car

  • That would be the Ellica your thinking about. I'm sure it had a large role in inspiring them to develop MiEV. When is the target US release date for MiEV? And I wonder what price they are shooting for.

  • Eliica

  • America needs these so badly .Those cars are welcome in Illinois anytime.

  • Please sell these in the USA. We are so ready for them. Only selfish idiots want to continue to drive Humvees. And Hybrid SUV's are a joke, still getting horrible mileage, except for the AFSTrinity but it costs way too much for the average Joe.

  • Swear to god I seen a car on the road today that looked JUST like the MiEV. I even yelled "ELECTRIC CAR!" out the window. 8) I hope I was right.

  • Size

    3395 ×1475×1600mm

    Weight: 1080kg

    Riding capacity: Four people

    Limit speed: 130km/h

Cruising range: 160km(In addition, expand. )

    Max power: 47kw

    Max torque: 180N.m

    Drive system:Rear-wheel-drive

  • Ill be thinking of this video each time I fill my cars tank and each time I hear about Iraq

The range and speed is just perfect for me, when it becomes available I'll seriously consider buying one if its in the Honda civic price range. The trunk space looks like it might be tiny though, does anyone know if the backseat can fold?

  • What I'm interested to find out is it's ultimate performance figures. The 47kw/180nm electric motor is about the same output as the motor in the Tesla (Tesla quote peak power of 180kw, but it's continuous rating is 50kw, the same as the MiEV) and they'd be about the same weight. 0-60 in 4 sec from this little thing and Mitsubishi will have trouble making enough to keep up with demand.

  • This car is being demonstrated at the New York motor show to judge customer interest with a view to possible US launch in 2010.

  • The OPEC countries are going to love this

  • Get as many as possible on the roads and make the Arabs drink the last of their oil.

    Mick Mulvaney

  • I will buy this car if it comes to North America

  • I'd buy one.

  • tesla motors is probably thinking, OH SHIT! were fucked!!

  • Tesla should have made a peoples car rather then make a sports car for the rich and famous. When there is such a huge demand for a normal all electric vehicle, Tesla goes for a sports car. I hope to see Mitsubish miev comes to America and kick Toyota Prius where it hurts.

  • I think of it as a two-prong attack. Tesla's sports car helps convert gearheads who would never buy a Prius etc because it can't leave a skidmark 1/4 mile long. Sure the price is out of most peoples range, but it helps break the ugly, slow misconceptions.

Treehuggers like me will go for things like a prius or MiEV, musclecar people will be interested by things like the Tesla and when prices or a new model come out/down they will go for that.

Better sooner than later. EV's NOW

  • if our governments spent less money on fighting for oil, Technologies such as this could have been government funded decades ago- with the effect that we would be driving even more advanced alternative fuel vehicles now! Bring it on!

  • Amen. But I'm afraid that we Americans are going to need some time before we are ready to let go of our "right" to large gas drinking cars. How long will it take? What has to happen before we are willing to accept this?

  • dont include me in we ; I am ready

  • It Doesn't require time, it requires the gas to get even more expensive.. This needs to happen anyway.. Electric is just smarter, way more efficient can totally be faster, and is just plain old the next step; I am definitely ready to take it.

  • so does this car have 4 seperate motors?

  • Unfortunately no, this model doesn't use wheel motors at all.

It is RWD and has a single 47kw/180nm electric motor under the floor running off a 16Kw/h Li-ion battery pack.

  • whats the difference between four motors and just 2 in the back?

  • This car runs a single motor that has a mechanical transmission between it and the wheels. They lose 30% energy efficiency through the transmission.

The difference between 2 and 4 separate wheel motors is that due to weight transfer, the front wheels do most braking (for Regeneration) while the rear wheels are best for acceleration. With rear wheel only you are very limited in the amount of regenerative energy you can capture and rear brake bias is extremely unsafe for unskilled drivers

  • I hope I can buy this when it comes to America. I refuse to buy a new i.c.e. powered vehicle.

  • so do i
