The police most probably carry tazer gun & knight sticks

Actually, all male officers (which are 98% of them) carry .38 special revolvers. This was a very popular police sidearm here in the states before they switched to auto pistols. Female officers are not permitted to carry firearms in Japan.

The male officers only carry while on duty, the weapons are turned back in at the station at the end of their shifts. Its not like here in the states where cops carry their gun and badge 24/7.

Also its a reminder that, like you said, not the home of anime, manga, cuteness, technology etc, but it is a big city where keeping two eyes on what you're doing and where you are and all that... They'd probably call the embassy. They did that once with an Italian man in Shinjuku who had a Japanese phone on him... since he was on vacation they thought he'd gotten it illegally. Turns out he was holding it for his Japanese girlfriend while she went to grab a coffee :x
