wow i think that thing about the guy killing that women was in the news here in the uk recently lol...he confessed or something but said he didn't mean to kill her.
I never even thought about crime in Japan. I guess they have crime and prisons just like every where else... I would bet that they wouldn't put up with any BS.
These videos confuse me. It`s a mixture of nice staff - good, usefull pieces of advice and shit stuff - typical american arogance and belief in their cultural superiority. I mean wherever you meet americans they always cover their cultural ignorance with their easy-to-see-through self-confidence. TokyoCooney, though competent and willing to share useful tips, is just the bloody same Too cocky for a stranger. and subconsciously dreaming of invading japan ;P
@mistermaster2000 you got some serious issues there buddy. I mean im not american but i know that there are assholes and then there are nice open minded helpfull people (like Cooney here) just like any other countrys just like there are in Poland. Generalizing people really shows your ignorance.
My life is actual far from great. That being said... this is exactly the reason I continue to put music on the vids when I can find good fitting music. Its not worth $20 bucks to make my videos suck with a creative commons sound track.
is it fun or is it really stressful to live in japan? in your opinion, which is a better place to live in, US/Canada or Japan, government wise and lifestyle wise?
And exactly who do you think he is talking to here? Do you not realise that the kinds of advice he is offering is for fellow gaijin who may find themselves living and working in Japan?
If you concider the amount of dedication, and insight he has provided for those that may share his path in some way, maybe you might then appreciate what is being said here.
Other than that, I've noticed that you have left challenging comments on nearly *every* video this fellow has made, and for what purpose? Do you really have no life whatsoever that this is your assigned task in perpetuity?
I get how guns are illegal and stuff I mean yeah u dont have to worry so much about getting shot here. But how are the police going to expect to catch a crock! FREEZE I HAVE A DONUT AND IAM NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!!
Actually, all male officers (which are 98% of them) carry .38 special revolvers. This was a very popular police sidearm here in the states before they switched to auto pistols. Female officers are not permitted to carry firearms in Japan.
The male officers only carry while on duty, the weapons are turned back in at the station at the end of their shifts. Its not like here in the states where cops carry their gun and badge 24/7.
Officer involved shootings in japan occur next to never.
this would be one of your better videos becuz u explain the reality of Japan..its true people might think its the harmless anime country where everyones friendly n loves foreigners, but it still is a big scary country like anywhere..hopefully it doesnt turn anybody off going there, but it just means take care like anywhere else..
"now in ma younger dayz i use to sport sag.....when i come to school carry lunch in ma bag........she keeps on passing me by....da da da da da she keeps on pasing me by..." PHARCYDE I was sophomore highschool back in 92 when that came out or was it 93
yo cooney got the original where the sample came from I'm guessing maybe a group that is friends with BOB James or that other keyboard dude chik corea
When I lived in L.A. I was at Best Buy one day and gun shots were fired inside so people ran out the store including myself, later on the news they said it was an attempted robbery, ah, good times.
I agree with what abrstargo, in that its good to be informed about things that outsiders who have never been to Japan or lived there, don't know about, like the ID cards. Also its a reminder that, like you said, not the home of anime, manga, cuteness, technology etc, but it is a big city where keeping two eyes on what you're doing and where you are and all that... Thanks for the vid! :)
lol i have had the pipo van driving round all night say becareful from fire lol .how can i tell them to stop it .may be i will go light a fire some where but not in some one house,s love your vids , sure i see you one day walking about../?
so what would happen to me if some of those policemen aked for some id , and i for some reason didnt have one on me at the moment(lets say i forgot my passaport at the hotel) also i dont know what they would look for if they saw the passaport i mean japan dont always ask for visas to all nationalities (at the very least if you are staying for less than three months).........
They'd probably call the embassy. They did that once with an Italian man in Shinjuku who had a Japanese phone on him... since he was on vacation they thought he'd gotten it illegally. Turns out he was holding it for his Japanese girlfriend while she went to grab a coffee :x
you COULD just move over here, Visa predicament is pretty confusing, but once you get here, living is great! Sure, real estate is expensive, but the US can get old at times and this is a good place to retreat to, especially if you're an engineer(like me.)
Interesting episode. It's good to know about the serious things in Japan too. Hopefully you are safe and doing okay over there. Thank you for posting videos :)
I swear brother, when your produce these videos if you decide to, if you put them on a dvd of sorts, I will be the first to buy them and share them with my friends. The way you described racial profiling in a lighter sense but still pointing out that its a bit of an injustice and that the definition of a japanese person is slowly expanding, the way you did it is so profound. I look at your videos not just to keep me inspired in coming to tokyo, but to be enlightened as well. YOU are awesome!

Is it easy to get a gun in Tokyo?
What weapon do the police carry?

Answer: Guns are illegal in Japan
And I don't think police carry guns, but they do have access to them
The police most probably carry tazer gun & knight sticks
