This movie was sort of a love-hate mixture for me. The effects were incredible, which made me like it, but the story was total and complete bullcrap. It was packed with so many political, anti-capitalist, anti-industrial, anti-military, anti-American messages that it makes me think Barack Obama may have paid James Cameron to make it.

I came for the visual effects and what I'd heard about the storyline and stayed with it. I wanted to be immersed with Na'vi culture, regardless of how cliched the storyline is or how close to history it is, since ethnic cleansing has occurred continuously for thousands of years. On IMVU I am Na'vi; I presume you would be RDA if you were to join IMVU.

Men with advanced technologie come into this "new world" looking for unobtainium/gold and encounter natives to the land. The main character is sent by his leader to get information about these natives but ends up falling in love with daughter of the tribe leader, Neytiri/ pocahontas. Way to fucking similar. Actually, you'd be a fool to see anything in theaters. Home entertainment systems surpass theaters nowadays. Not to mention you're wasting almost 10$ to go watch a movie 1 time, when you could spend 20$ to own the DVD, and watch it as many times as you'd like in the comfort of your living room. I completely disagree with this review. This movie was all special effects and no substance. The story was appallingly predictable and derivative. I'd say that the plot was little more than taking the blueprint of a generic story and simply an exercise of "join the dots".
Saw, I am legend, Resident, Freddy vs Predator, Alien vs Jason (something wrong), zombie everywhere, Cursed Samara, "Cause the eyes of the ranger are upon you"... After all of this, isn't it nice to watch something like that? Showing something beautiful - I know it's Pokahontas-like but I like it. Watched about six times (or more)
Avatar was a pretty movie...stupid, but pretty. Good graphics? Yes. Special Effects? Yes, and I would hope so; that's what they were selling the movie on. Ultimately, though, the characters were cliched, especially the villains, and most parts of the movie were pretty much taken from other films (Pocahontas, Dances With Wolves, etc.) The plot outline has been done to death as well, and the story really had no substance to it.
I think its kinda gay that its only one disc, and the 4 disc isnt coming out for awhile and its way to expensive....also i was dissapointed that all the action was at the last 20 mins of the movie. Awesome 2 hrs and 20 mins and then full force battle at the end that was like 20 mins
Definitely one of my favorite movies. Yeah there were some flaws, but if you try to show me a movie without flaws then you're full of it. Despite the connection to what's going on in the middle east, it was an amazing movie. The story was great and so were the characters, the technology roughly did fit the year, and the visual effects especially were stunning.

Movie severely flawed. 1st, the evolution on Pandora not insynch with Navi. Most creatures have 6 limbs. Navi had no vestigial remnants of extra limbs. 2nd, tech displayed not that far-fetched (floating LCDs, virtual controls). It's not 140 years worth. 3rd, population migration and globalization would've made the workforce more ethnically diverse. But only one Indian in the lab? None of the equipment displayed multi-language signage. I doubt all that metal was made by a US company.

well most viewers just paid attention to how awesome the life in pandora was and the messages that the movie was passing about how life used to be here before we ruined it along with nature and started caring about money to the point that we didn't care about destroying our own home. Look at where we are now. Fighting each other and living for the money and we are missing the main point of this life. That's what this movie gave to me and that's why i loved it.

I loved this movie... I saw it in I-MAX 3-D and this is the best movie of the year. I loved this movie so much I didn't even bother watching The Hurt Locker which was made by his ex-wife.

Ok motion capture work, but other than that it is just tyoo bombastic and thoroughly OVER DONE.
Overacting, bad music and just lame. To each their own, I just think it was about 4.5 out of 10.
Cameron fell in love with the colors and magic of Pandora and went off on the wrong tangent here.
Save yourself the time and watch somethin more entertaining.

I came for the visual effects and what I'd heard about the storyline and stayed with it. I wanted to be immersed with Na'vi culture, regardless of how cliched the storyline is or how close to history it is, since ethnic cleansing has occurred continuously for thousands of years. On IMVU I am Na'vi; I presume you would be RDA if you were to join IMVU.

Men with advanced technologie come into this "new world" looking for unobtainium/gold and encounter natives to the land. The main character is sent by his leader to get information about these natives but ends up falling in love with daughter of the tribe leader, Neytiri/ pocahontas. Way to fucking similar. Entertaining? Hell yeah. Overated? Hell yeah

Yes, the plot of Avatar has been done a millions time before. Avatar= Pocahontas.

Avatar has some action & is beautifully presented,but it has the usual cast of psychotic soldiers & greedy capitalist always seen in modern films. The modern world with all of its new fangled science(like penicillin) is the bad guy & true wisdom rest with the noble savage. Actually, you'd be a fool to see anything in theaters. Home entertainment systems surpass theaters nowadays. Not to mention you're wasting almost 10$ to go watch a movie 1 time, when you could spend 20$ to own the DVD, and watch it as many times as you'd like in the comfort of your living room. Avatar was a pretty movie...stupid, but pretty. Good graphics? Yes. Special Effects? Yes, and I would hope so; that's what they were selling the movie on. Ultimately, though, the characters were cliched, especially the villains, and most parts of the movie were pretty much taken from other films (Pocahontas, Dances With Wolves, etc.) The plot outline has been done to death as well, and the story really had no substance to it.

Definitely one of my favorite movies. Yeah there were some flaws, but if you try to show me a movie without flaws then you're full of it. Despite the connection to what's going on in the middle east, it was an amazing movie. The story was great and so were the characters, the technology roughly did fit the year, and the visual effects especially were stunning.

Movie severely flawed. 1st, the evolution on Pandora not insynch with Navi. Most creatures have 6 limbs. Navi had no vestigial remnants of extra limbs. 2nd, tech displayed not that far-fetched (floating LCDs, virtual controls). It's not 140 years worth. 3rd, population migration and globalization would've made the workforce more ethnically diverse. But only one Indian in the lab? None of the equipment displayed multi-language signage. I doubt all that metal was made by a US company.

With one pan of the camera across that suburban blight and trailer park you see everything you just mentioned. But since Earl didn't attempt to create an entire xeno-ecosystem my comment wouldn't apply to that sitcom. For $300 mil, I expect more thought going into it.

well ok then. I happen to like movies that remind me this kind of stuff. Even if it makes me sad. And yeh a 300 mil movie should be better but I care about the movie itself not about what it should be. But I guess it's a matter of taste so....

I would maybe disagree with you in some parts... no matter how well the movie was done I was still not sucked into the story 100%... the plot was clear-cut and what you'd find in your average box of Corn Flakes.

Avatar was a very good like 9/10 the first time I watched it in 3-D. The second time was more like 7/10. Either way, it is a great movie.

I loved this movie... I saw it in I-MAX 3-D and this is the best movie of the year. I loved this movie so much I didn't even bother watching The Hurt Locker which was made by his ex-wife.

What message? Who the hell do you think financed the movie? 40% came from Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, Murdoch is laughing as NC shares shoot up on the back of the film. Same goes for all the other corporate entities that funded it. By paying to see it, you just increased profits for the same corporate scum you despise. They don't care about the message of the film, they're so secure in power it doesn't phase them in the slightest.

The movie was amazing and one of my favorite, but I couldn't help but notice one thing.
Don't the human vehicles bear striking resemblance to the vehicles in the Halo series? And some of the names in the series are the same, ex. "Banshee"
