@LilMissOutcast56 most kids were sent to less populated parts of the UK. The government did it to save the kids, but the moms had to stay home and keep their jobs and the men were off fighting. Kids that went to the US usually went to stay with a relative.

@PoncifyingSince1995 I think it was easier for kids to understand back then. The English language has evolved so much in quite a short time really and words that were common then, aren't now. I know my grandpa was reading that kind of stuff when he was a young boy too.
