first of all "stabbing" with the bit and "jabbing" with the spurs are not exactly correct terms and your making it sound more harsh than it is. if you did see someone using unrelenting techniques then they are either doing it wrong or schooling. these horses are collected, they are not in pain. collecting a horse gives them balance,strenght and energy to do their tasks. an uncollected horse will hollow out its back and stick its head in the air which is uncomfortable for both parties

@animalLuverify A time ago I rode a western trained horse. At this time I was at the beginner lvl. and I've searched for a new stable. and this women offered me to teach me how to ride such a horse. The first thing I've learned there was to ride without saddle and with the loose reins. But when you have never cantered a horse and now you should canter without a saddle. ouch. But the horse stops every time I've fallen down. But then I've found a really good english stable. And I left.

My old trainer would always say stuff like "Stacey Westfall is not that great" and "It take 6 weeks to teach a reining horse to spin in a circle compared to a dressage horse which takes roughly 6 years to teach them how to prance and spin because it requires more muscles.....babababbabaabaabab­ab."

Long story short, I don't ride at her barn anymore. She was not even a western rider so I don't know where she got that kind of information from.

I am buying my first reining prospect. I rode english for many years but too many injuries has limited my riding to western. Not that I am complaining. I rode western as a kid.

And all of the "this is cruel and horses get hurt people" people, do you complain about football too cause players get hurt? They are athletes and at this level of competition these horses are treated like royalty. Why in the name of pete would you abuse a horse that can win you millions on the curciut???????

@BabyBirdWispers have you seen how they are trained to do a slide stop...its all using there natural movment...like when there out in the feild and run out of fence. i have i do reining and my horse will spin and slide stop on his own outside, these horses lov the sport just as much as we do

@Lytshi1992 Western is really fun. Espicaly pleasure an dloping really fast on a flat stretch. To me the wstern saddle is alot more comfortable and i feel alot more safer in the western saddle. I really hope that you can try western someday! One tip, if you are riding a horse that is alerady on a westen horse, hold the reins looser then you would then riding english.
