  • This great man wore night goggles. Consequently he was able to discover many more visions than Dylan was able to.

  • Ha! Ha! Long time, no hear. CLASSIC! :D

  • Classic song made into brilliant theatre by Yosser Hughes playing the Tambourine.

  • Genius, British Bob Dylan. As relevant now as ever.

  • vini reilly

  • "The boys are on the wagon the girls are on the shelf, their common problem being they're not someone else".... I love it.

  • Beeeaazzzzllleehhhhhhhhh Street. I fucking love this so much.

  • One of his best tracks ever!!

Does anyone know a link anywhere for his Just Desserts???

Had it once but lost it.

  • I have always loved JCC

  • Eyes dead as vicious fish look around for laughs...... Excellent. Thanks for posting.

  • Love this - it helped me survive a shit hole in leeds 9 where fash were trying to develop their usual propoganda of hate. They did not like this because no racism exists in this - just poverty!

  • 'colours clash'

he forsaw the ZX Spectrum lol

  • is Vini Reilly on lead guitar?

  • @johnbarry1965 s'gotta be with that hair and that nose lol.

  • OMG I used to love John Cooper Clarke about 20 years ago!!! This is brilliant...this guy is pure talent.....thanks for posting xxx

  • "People turn to poison as quick as lager turns to piss" This song never fails to bring back so many memories from the time, but I certainly didn't remember the guitarist with the porn-star mustache and the solo at the end of this song.

  • the purest poetry

  • Ídolo.

  • Looking from the other side.

  • "Keith Joseph smiles and a baby dies in a box on Beasley Street". They made him mumble the name! How very BBC!

  • @goldenlitesw Yep, that made me smile too lol.

  • "Sleep is a luxury they don't need, a sleep preview of death...."

"Their common problem is that they're not someone else...."

"The foecal germs of Mr Freud are rendered obsolete...."

"The perishing stink of squalour impregnates the walls...."

    Pure class.

  • The look is classic Dylan '66.

    The poetry is Salford.

    Thank you for uploading.

  • Incomparable. Makes Dylan look like a merely plodding poet.

  • Hî_Î_fEÊl_sò_lóñély_t0ÐÄY

  • Fantastic. :)

  • Probably his finest masterpiece this is brilliant observation of the early 80s. An underated genious!

  • Saw him so many times on his own armed only with his notebook, but only with the invisible girls once, on the double header tour with Paulin Murray, at the Free Trade hall in Manchester..now that was a magical night !

  • A genius.

Not really many modern day UK poets like this guy. A few are most likely vocalists like Scroobius Pip, AllFlaws

  • Can't see the invisible girls though??

  • "" The Rats have all got rickets""........ no need to mention anymore fantastc poetry. The younger generation should be taught this in school, Not wordsworth or shakespeare. we might see some common respect return to society. But alas, .........

  • seen him in 1979 MIDDLESBROUGH , 2009 SALFORD , and going next sunday 06/02/11 LEICESTER :-)

hes an (almost living ) LEGEND

  • The only J C-C song I've memorised....anyone got 'The It Man'

Oh, I lied, I've memorised 'Majorca' too.

Vini Reilly's Durruti Column are worth a listen too.

  • @stevebray55 I'm on the same page as you re. Durruti Column - at last I know I'm not the only one...

  • The only J C-C song I've memorised....anyone got 'The It Man'?

  • Is that also Dave Formula (from Magazine) on keyboards on the left at the 6.10 mark?

  • Fuck me that was good!!!

  • Heard this for the first time today. Great driving song.

  • If my eyes still work, I believe seen John Cooper Clarke, Vini Reilly, and Martin Hannett, and other Manchester stars? Performing Beasley Street? At their height?!?!?! OMG WATCH THIS NOW

  • what a poet! Beasley Street - sounds like one of the better streets by us - where the posh-uns live.

You can tell them upper class cause they get out the bath to piss

  • The boys are on the wagon.. the girls or the shelf.. their common problem is that their not some one else.. classic..

  • its nothing short of fucking brilliance !!!!

  • KEITH JOSEPH smiles and a baby dies....

Anyone who does not remember Mr Joseph. He was the animal who believed that only elite should be allowed to breed. And if you believe that the education system is not the same as it was, you can blame it on the man who destroyed it as Education Secretary in the 80s.

  • Great to see this on t'internet but I never thought Sir JCC would conform to censorship and not mention Keith Joseph smiling as a baby dies.

  • A wizard with whirling words wickedly!

  • punk poetry at its best we are all dead canaries on the swivel seats of life.genius.

  • I wonder if JCC saw the door of opportunity back in the eighties but decided not to go through it.The way he lives his life is more real and poetic if you like.Mass media and popularity would have killed him.Love ya Johnnie Clarke, your words are like sugar puffs to me..................ya twat

  • @byeckfella excellent comment!

  • Say,s it all Fantastic++

  • thats vini reilly from durrutti column playin guitar

  • Attila the Stockbroker GLC festival brilliant

  • on piano Steve Hopkins? on keyboards Dave Formula? on Yamaha SG guitar...? on drums Paul Burgess?

  • @FrancoDamn Is that Vini Reilly on guitar?

  • @martianware the guy with his a Les Paul, alleggelly. But the another with the Yamaha SG guitar (the double cutaway) is unknown, he looks like Zappa.

  • Anyone remember the double header tour of JCC and Pauline Murray with the Invisible Girls, that was one hell of a show.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! Takes me right back, I saw JCC in Plymouth in the early 80s being supported by the brilliantly named Attila the Stockbroker.

My fav line, I think might have been originally the one with Keith Joseph

    - a politician smiles, a baby dies, in a box on Beasley Street -

    Those were the days!!!!

  • 'smell of yesterdays cabbage, and ghost of last year's wife'

This is Bob Dylans little brother.. at least let me live that dream.

  • i feel like i can smell the cigarettes and alcohol and sweat. just by watch this

  • Excellent...

  • KACKEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

  • "...I have not got a clue how old the Elephant Man was!" - Karl Pilkington

  • What a fucking waste of time You Tube has become, 8 mins download for a 2 min video and shit about copying to ipod - just fuck off and goodbye

  • wonder why he doesn't say "keith joseph"?

  • theres a bit missing, but we know and remember these people

  • Thats not the one with the porns star tache by the way!

  • The sublime Vinni Reilly on guitar!

  • @TheFlooredGenius Yup. And Martin Hannett sitting down, presumably playing the bass.

  • It's a really depressing song - stands way above the "boy in the hood" gangsta bullshit of today.Wish I could have seen him play with New Order back in the day.

  • Absolutely brilliant, John! I salute you!

  • fucking love John Cooper Clarke.

  • Oh my...this is wonderful!! luv JCC, ...and just why has no one else ever been able to do this as good as witty and entertaining as Johnny. "kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king "

    ...bloody hell!

  • Cracking. Haven't seen this before. Thanks for posting!

  • hahah noone would be here if it wasnt for ol gervais

  • classic as aways ..the man

  • get a LOBE of this.....

  • No he doesn't....donkey!

  • OOH CHIMPANZEE THAT

  • @jimmyrascal Kudos Brother!! The greatest living Salfordian - John Cooper Clarke. The greatest living Mancunian - Karl Pilkington! Bald, round headed TWONK! lol

  • Holy Shit!

    A Man-Moth!

  • then why would you choose to read his blog and follow links he posts? weird.

  • why the fuck do you read his blogs if you dont like him then you confused stupid shit

  • That's why sloths never get ill, they're always sleeping, 's'when your body's replemishing

    HLAFO

  • Al-bi-nooooo buying that

  • Didn't know Ricky liked Johnny Clarke, fucking brilliant song by the way.

  • "They reckon in the future you'll be able to wake up and have a yoghurt that you can have a chat with".

  • What's Tomato With You?

  • Ricky's images with the pizza are sooo god, hahaha.

    Go, rolling-head! XD

    pretty cool =)

    xx

  • 2nd from Ricky!x

Karl Pilkington's got a head like a fucking orange btw x

  • One better day

  • I kicked me height!

  • Yes, "the taste of silver spoons", sadly too well known to JCC & Martin Hannett (playing bass sitting down) two of the braniac alien characters behind this masterpiece of space-age technology, at least JCC made it out alive.

  • "Keith Joseph" smiles as a baby dies....Yes, "KEITH JOSEPH" smiles as a baby dies!

Obviously allowing JCC to reference him in this OGWT version was considered too controversial in those far off times?

JCC is a legend. Top guy with his finger on the social pulse of the U.K.

  • heard this the first time in 1980 in a hostel in NZ. I was 17 and a Frank Zappa & fusion jazz fan. Within 6 months I had cut off my hair and turned to punk ending up playing in new wave bands. This one song hit me like a freight train. A friend of mine showed John around Wellington a year or so later when he toured with New Order. He confessed to a smack addiction causing havoc. Hope he is clean now.

  • Great stuff, spend a year in a couple of hours, commentary on the senile Euro society as perpetrated by Margaret Thatcher. We had travelled to England in the mid 80's arrived at King's Cross after a 2 day bus from Athens and found a sordid, horror city which we escaped from to rural Scotland and sanity- sort of....

  • francoDam you got it. .the poet of the punk movement. the decade of decay. .the only poet that matters. . .

  • Comment removed

  • Well, im guessing the musicians of The Invisible Girls, then soon to colaborate with Pauline Murray (or then collaborating, its 1980). Paul Burgess on drums, Martin Hannett on bass (that black, curly and big hair, am i right?), Steve Hopkins on piano, but i also can recognize Billy Currie (?) of Ultravox on keyboards (far left), Vini Reilly on guitar (alongside-left Hannett/bassist), and a like-Zappa guy on panderet and guitar. Am i right?

  • definately M18 certainly not SK8

  • Keith Joseph smiles and a baby dies in a box on Beasley Street.....

Can't see the problem with that line

  • it's the BBC ,,, thats the problem,,

  • Not keen on the spelling of the title and the editing out of the 'Keith Joseph' line. Gotta love whisperin' Bob tho'

  • The Bard of Salford's crowning achievement. And the finest use of the English language to boot.

  • Epic!

  • He's performing again apparently after a couple of decades absence. I'm sure he'll be happy to sell the tickets if you all like him so much. Personally, I get bored after a minute or two. It might be interesting hearing about poverty and degradation if you are a posh kid who never knew it first hand. I don't have any such abstract curiosity.

  • yet another classic

  • SirFlam91........... YOU SUCK. JCC is KING

  • This is so great, the lyric is so right! A real poet!

Classic track from John Cooper Clarke!

  • ... The antidote to Girls aloud.

Why doesn't anyone say anything in music anymore?

  • lo mejor de este video..el guitarrista..Lyn Oakey..mi esposo.:-)

  • Thanks for posting this, the man's a legend ! I saw him at the student's union at Aberdeen. In 1982 I think, give or take a year.

  • .. a fully furnished dustbin, 16 Beasley St.

    Classic.

  • classic. like always

  • Fantastic.... So good to hear this again. JCC is mustard here and so is his band. Incidentaly, Im pissed and pissed off... just the right mood!

  • 1. The look is Dylan 69.

    2. Beasley Street comes out of Desolation Row

But I think he's a great, really great, talented poet. With a terrific Manchester accent.

  • I think thats why CBS signed him, that Dylan look. That is where all similarity ends however! Our Bob was and is very much his own man. One of the latter day geniuses, along with Beefheart etc.

  • OOps, meant Our John!!

  • no not MANCHESTER accent mate

FUCKING SALFORD,, you should know there is a big difference,,

  • the rats have all got rickets they spit through broken teeth

  • FREEDOM OF SPEACH!!! Pre/Post 'Thatcher' stuff.

    peace n love everyone

  • unbe - fkkn - lievable

    genius

  • Did they blank the words "keith joseph", or did he forget the line? - it looks like he was muted. That would be political censorship.

  • The original rap artist

  • What's that song appearing for one second at the end? Is it OMD?

  • yes, that's OMD

  • Anybody nosing here perhaps knows how the hell i am going to get "innocent" again??

(then ask me if i have something for you perhaps)

  • It is on compilation "Give it some Punk" by Receiver Records RRCD 210,1996

    Cheerio

  • yeah pal ,, its on this ,,,

Où Est La Maison De Fromage?

  • Yeh- the jury's come back in and he is the shite.

  • Bollox mate - at least he does some thing , doesn't just dish out negativity.

  • spoken like a yank with kiddies cartoons on his site ,, you need help you stinking hill billy cunt,,

  • If you live in the West End of Morecambe this is still so relevant!

  • something to be remembered by. Quite brilliant. A permanent Monday Morning.

  • if i could have a god damned wish, I'd dig being a photograph

  • He really is a clever bastard.

  • The Invisible Girls were a great band!

  • This man should be the countrys poet laureat he has more in common with most of us than anyone before him. truly gifted. say what you see.......see what you say. Mint.

Have you seen his evidently chicken..a masterpiece.

  • talked to him last week a true gent yeah poet laureate sounds just about spot on

  • listening to this has reminded me just how great jcc is and how thoroughly shite space were....

  • fucking clever cunt.

  • Their common problem is that their not someone else

  • 'Fully furnied dust-bin, 16 Beezley Street..'

He might outnumber, or give Dylan a fair ontological poetry-fight.

Bless every step, and winged word JCC...and happy Yuletide..;-) !

  • If I could have just one wish, I'd be a photograph.

  • Fantastic. The man was able to articulate the feeling of despair of the punk era. Kieth Joseph smiles a baby dies!!!

  • Awesome, mega song!!!
