  • This is the most intuitive guy I've ever seen. He's like the McGuiver of nerds.

  • @Asakaro not necessarily, they really wouldn't have to be. A technique that the Spartans used often was the phalanx, making a wall of shields and throwing the spears over.you wouldn't need that big of shields for that.

  • @epicfantasy I'll send you a few pics of the different stages

  • arnt sparten shields MUCH bigger

  • hey Will! I've just put the finishing touches on mine. It started out os Perseus's shield, with a lightning bolt ornament, then i took the rim off, and replaced the bolt with my initials, which i did with spray paint and a stencil i made. today i used stencils and acrylics to put the words "AΘΗΝΑ"(Ancient Greek for Athena) and "ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝ"(Ancient Greek for Apollo), my two favorite Olympians. I want to make the rest of your spartan stuff as well!

  • @SirMinecrafter1999 wow! nice work. Send me a pic!

  • @epicfantasy I've now decided to put a bible tverse on it (as I said, many changes), Ephesians 6:16, "Take on the Shield of Faith..."

  • Hey, can you use white printer/printing paper for the 2nd layer of paper mache instead of newspaper?

  • @TheShadowFreak3010 yes, definitelyl

  • @epicfantasy Alright, thanks!

  • Epicfantasy will u sell some Spartan stuff I tryd to make them but it was an epic fail

  • que chido vidio

  • how cum he uses flower instead of glue

  • @epicfantasy How any inches in diameter if you're using a different dome shaped object?

  • wow too many spartans

  • im so nerding out this next paycheck lol

  • you'd make great dad

wish my dad is as creative as you :D

  • is the sled still in the finished product?

  • How much would I have to pay you for you to make one of these for me?

  • @velthrar Why can't you make it yourself? Lazy?Don't have the materials?

  • @300spartanswin Neither, I just would like to pay someone to do it, if I have the money, shouldn't that be okay?

  • @velthrar Yeah?

  • Heck yeahs! First layer done!

  • @epicfantasy Does the cardboard ring cover underneath the snow sled?

  • @300spartanswin I think I see. As you tighten down the bolts it will pull down the cirlce into the parabolic shape.

  • @300spartanswin meh no problem. should I have sponged off the 1st layer?

  • This video is awesome. This would be awesome to make for my L.A.R.P. club. Plus the shield is very realistic

  • what would be good material for a 3 foot diameter sheild. pleasee help

  • I'm 12, and using this for a school project. Will the handles be small enough for my arm?

  • @SirMinecrafter1999 You just have to measure the handle to the size of your arm.Just make it as small as your arm.

  • Thanks! I think I'm going to put tin foil on the back to make it Perseus's shield that helped him slay Medusa.

  • kind of small that wouldnt protect anything

  • @sappinmytele If you got nothing good to say then shut the hell up! It's just a prop. You're not gonna use it to protect yourself! epicfantasy will be ten times the man you are!

  • @300spartanswin Really? All i'm saying is: if you're trying to make a replica at least make it the correct size

  • @epicfantasy How did you get this shape at 4:46 on the carboard ring that is paper mached while it's actually flat?

  • @300spartanswin sorry, i dont really understand your question.

  • @epicfantasy What I mean is that the cardboard ring is flat so how did you get that parabolic shape on the back of the shield?

  • @300spartanswin He cut that ring out of the cardboard.

  • @SirMinecrafter1999 That's not what I asked.

  • @300spartanswin Oh. Herp Derp to me. I know whatyou mean now-He cut out a circlr of cardboard and just glued it into the back of the dome. The paribolical shape is just hidden by the cardboard.

  • @SirMinecrafter1999 Huh?That's not what I asked and by the way,I already got my answer.Any way, thanks for trying to answer my question.

  • @epicfantasy Im 12 i like your vids :D your an awesome man :D :D :D 1 thing i dont understand im not english or american im dutch

  • @epicfantasy After the paper mache has dried can you use sandpaper to make it smooth?

  • Comment removed

  • @epicfantasy You didn't mention a sealer for one of the materials that you need.I looked this project up on your website and it said you needed a sealer. What's a sealer for in this project? Is it a spray or what?

  • @300spartanswin it protects it from peeling . prevents the color from smearing.

  • @epicfantasy lol Liar, you didn't make that, you bought it! And I mean that as a compliment on the finished product :)

5:21 Wow! The imperfections on the edge of the shield, how it's not smooth, the color, everything! That shield looks like it's been used in battle, like I'm actually looking at a real Spartan shield on display in a museum.

  • @CoHScrapper lol Thanks !

  • yo, what happens if it doesn't go the right way?

  • GREECE 4 EVER!

  • dear santa...

  • @boss7336 Why can't you make it yourself?

  • Thanks so much!!! I have been trying to find this for school :)

  • nice i made this for my bros school project thanks for the help

  • you dont have to paper macha it you can just paint it there

  • @epicfantasy Great tutorial! However, I have a question regarding a '300 shield' I bought. It's really thin plastic and would like to cover only the back area, to make it stronger and heavier (the front already looks nice). Is it possible to only cover the back of the shield with a couple of layers and make it (permanently) stick? Perhaps use some tape around the edges? Thanks!

  • @gideonMorrison Thanks, you can just insert a couple of layers of cardboard. Just cut them into big circles and screw them into the inside. No need to paper mache. the inside doesn't really show.

  • you like spartan don't you? ;0

  • This would break like cardboard in combat.....

  • what did you say that blue parabola is ?

  • @zxracer04 Its a snow sled. And wow, parabola? You a telescope maker?

  • Dude you are so Awesome!!!!!thank you so much for making all of this Videos.

you really helped alot of people including me on this kinds of projects.the school

rewarded me best in costume during our costume parade.I totally owe you this

Victory, may you live long and unforgotten my friend.HAWOO-HAWO-HAWOO!!!!!!

  • it's not V it's L for lakedemonioi the name of spartans

  • where did you get the blue plastic thing

  • Comment removed

  • 10 people are Persians kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • 9 people are persians

  • where the hell am i going to get a trashcan

  • Why salt for paper machie? You're not cooking lol!

  • think it possible to build an armor of Saint Seiya?

  • nice

  • At 1:54 - 2:02 he sounds like Big Show.

  • why does that shield remind me of bioshock 2?

  • It is not Vi it is an Λ(L)you know from Ελληνας?EΛ-ΛΗΝΑΣ

  • can you show someone wearing all your armor pieces?

  • V's were not the only thing on the shield, Most put Gods or monsters on the shield.

Think I can paint Mudusa's face on it? I saw a shield with that design.

  • @greek1237 A medusa would be cool.

  • @epicfantasy THEY WERENT ACTUALLY Vs they were greek ''L''for ''LEONIDAS''Greek ''L''is like an opposite ''V''

  • @greek1237 its not a v its a Λ the greek letter lamda, and it stands for lacedemonia, the capital of spartans, only lacedemonians had the right to be spartan hoplites, and thats what they all had on their shields

  • @ShaNagmaImmuru

For Sparta sure, but every Greek city state had there own way of rising a hoplite army. I never consider Sparta the number I Hoplite army of Greece, they were in the top, but I think had Athen's never lost there leader to the sickness, it might have been a other story, because before that, they fought mostly to a draw.

  • @greek1237 The shield with Medusa's face on it was the shield Perseus used

  • @greek1237 just like athenas aigas ( i believe thats how its spelled.) you could probably use a mask or maybe laytex, but it would still be awesome to have a medussa shield!

  • the upside down v is red

  • I made a helmet for Halloween a few years ago, key step is coat the outside in fiberglass car body epoxy, fantastic, hardens solid and its perfect as long as you apply it relatively smooth for it to dry. Its made to be painted too so it turns out really nice.

  • Great video! I wish I had seen this before I made my own costume a few years ago. The costume turned out well, but my shield was a failure and I didn't have time to try again. I was working with cardboard and fiberglass. Paper mache is a terrific and simple alternative. Why didn't I think of that?!? Well done! :-)

I posted a slideshow vid of pics taken during and after my build, but the soundtrack was destroyed by WMG. It's still worth a look, for anyone building their own 300 costume.

  • I wanna sheild punch people with it now

  • why are almost everyone interested in spartans and not vikings.Vikings are a lot cooler

  • @Zitochi2 cus spartans are cooler

and you havent met a guy in my class named dj, who is a viking xD

  • @KralleCR vikings are cooler vikings are much tougher using better weapons and um i am from the country where vikings lived or actually many of the countries where vikings lived

because i am a little bit from finland and a little bit of norway and the rest of me is from sweden

did you know that romans was scared of vikings.

im not sure but i heard something about vikings fighted against spartans but the spartans retreated

another thing vikings has won a lot of fights against pirates

  • @Zitochi2 well first off,its opinion,and second,spartans are cooler because i like them more,so there

  • @Zitochi2 sorry, but the greatest fighters where the apache worriors. They were the most creative warriors in gureilla warfare. Look em up and get educated.

  • @AZsportshut I agree, pure brawn can't win alone. If you're smart and you can tire your opponent, then you'll be victorious

  • @AZsportshut One word.

    Phalanx.

  • 6 people are persians.

  • great tutorial. i would use fiberglass instead of paper mache. would last alot longer

  • @DjMikal7

i made it out of mache turned out awesome my pics are on his website.

but then i left the sheild in my outside shed and mice totally destroyed it!

  • @antman1991 see wat i mean. lol im not hatin on the project. just thought i would pitch in my 2 cents lol

  • this war was based on The Battle of Thermopylae I think

  • 157 think this is good 6 people are facking haters and dont have i life ur very nice and what u always do its facking awesome

  • i have to do a medieval project and i was looking for a shield even though this is a spartan shield i can make it a little more medieval by adding a smaller dome but i was wondering to make a smaller version can i use a plastics chip bowl like a tray bowl almost for parties still prettty good size, plz respond!!!

  • @skatergalol You can make it any size you want! I would hold it up like it was a shield and see if it looks like it would be a good size. if so then go right ahead and use it! Barrel covers work pretty well too.

  • @epicfantasy thanks and also i di ur castle very good insturctions(:

  • @epicfantasy man i made your sword, shield, spear, vammbarces, only the greaves and the chest is left

  • Thanks dude! I had a project on Greece and Im dressing up as a spartan warrior and your vids helped me get a A! Thanks!!

  • @GayfishFTW You are very welcome and Grats on the A!

  • 6 Persians have watched this

  • but it makes things that are resistant to a battle but it is OK to do things for you apollo Spartans

  • Love the video, gonna make the entire hoplite gear. sorry to tell you cuz to me it sounds like im trollin but the ornament is an L rather than a V, it comes from the region from which the spartans came ( Laconia). Yet again love the video :D

  • what is the diameter of that shied?

  • are you able to smite kids on holloween who come back dressed different for more candy with it if you dont want to give them anymore candy?? :D

  • @TheDuDe536 lol! no smiting allowed. - I love that word "smite". I have plans for making a sword called "Smite".

  • nice job, just needs to be bigger.

  • Can you make weapons from the God of War series. Especially the blades all three pairs are great and the Blade of Olympus is really hard to make with all that detail.

  • i love this stuff you did a great job now im going to get started on mine

  • imade all of ur spartan weps n n i wore for hallowwwweeeennnnbuHAHAHAHHAHHA *poke*

  • but would this help me battle persians

  • @RudeWARRIOR83 Only if the persians have paper mache weapons too!

  • @epicfantasy I have a quick question since I'm new to paper mache. Was the dome and the cardboard ring part of the shield, or was it only a structure to make the shape?

  • @Qk34life Part of it.

  • wow , really amazing job dude .

can't believe that something so cool can come out of paper mache !!

  • is that robust enough to not break if i smash someone with it?

  • @AzukiakaMe Yes, sure is..

  • @epicfantasy could you make a tutorial on how to add some paper spikes to follow the 300 march to glory game where the shield is upgradeable and spikes are on it?

  • Thanks I was using cardboard and wrapped it with electrical tape and glued the tip maybe I'll throw some foam on it too

  • Hey love all of your videos about the spartans attempting to make the spear. Quick question my brother has nerf gun wars and i actually want to be able to use this stuff and hit people with the shielf could i use cardboard and paper mache it and add glue to paper mache stronger and for the spear could i use a pvc piping with foam around it so nobody gets hurt?

  • @MrSpartanPhalanx YEs, that all sounds pretty good. It would work. Just be careful about what you use for the tip of the spear, could be dangerous.

  • @epicfantasy Have you considered about making the sword, shield, spear and helmet out of actual bronze?

  • @ColdShadowProduction That would be seriously cool!

  • @epicfantasy I know! Lol. It would be a bit heavy though.

  • and that's how Hollywood works, paper mache and plastic :P great job man

  • I've got a few questions...

First, you didn't really mention the ring before it was glued down,

how big is it? is it a full circle or is it just a few inches wide of a ring? how did you make it?

AND, if i can find a wooden bowl shape big enough, could I use that as supposed to having to look for bowl shaped objects that don't cost 50 bucks, and cut the excess and what not?

  • @bpin1996 sorry, full ring and yes.

  • can you make a video of how to make jin kazama's gloves from the tekken series

  • if you spray on a brownish-black paint and then brush on a gold paint it looks really good

  • hey fool its not an upside down V its an Λ (L) that means Lakedaimonioi and that means in ancient greek Spartan

  • @maroulios Actually it means Lacadaemonia, which is the region in Southern tip of Greece where Sparta was.

  • did you put and second hand of paper ???

  • You sounds like Vince Vaughn....

  • @mogochoholow Thanks, Didn't he go out with Jennifer Aniston? Maybe it was his voice that attracted her? I should call her and ask her how she has been? lol

  • whoever thought of this had the beast mode switch on

  • AAAhhh i wish i saw this before halloween!!!

  • how much did all thesematerials cost?

If you could let me know id be most grateful!

  • @splashie777 Cost me about 20 dollars I think? Sled was 10, two cans of spray paint, and flour.

  • id use plaster bandage its flexable and easy to moldand its what casts are made of just wet it and apply it

  • @DakotaAKAZero You are so right. The plaster bandages work very well. Much easier too. Just a bit more expensive.

  • THIS IS AWEOSOME!! THANK YOUU

  • Great tutorial!

I still have to spray paint mine, but I am wondering if I should lightly sand the front of the shield to smooth it out a little bit. What do you think?

    Thanks again!

  • can i use this set for a movie?

  • When you think about it, there's actually a lot of complex maths that needs to be calculated to make these shields. The Greeks really knew their stuff.

  • @cannonbulk yep the greeks were really smart but if find it stupid how they couldnt figue out parallax

  • @DevilJin60 I assume that's a joke right ?? >.> P

  • @DevilJin60 dude your a fucking retard

  • @bdawg1996 ?that was a pointless comment i made. why call me a retard.

  • @DevilJin60 because, you are if u wanna put a "pointless comment"

  • @bdawg1996 Why start a fight on the intrnet over a comment that wasnt intented to offend anyone.I think thats more retarted.

  • @DevilJin60 its not a fight, and if it was, why join in????
