What a travesty-more proof that the Grammy's are meaningless. Bon Iver has TWO Grammy's and Neil only one!!!. One of the best songwriter's ever-period! Still creating, still rocking-love you Neil!
As Eddie Vedder said on stage in Pearl Jam's Grammy acceptance speech....."I don't think this means anything!"
Uncle Neil is a music treasure and the fact he just now wins one of these things shows that it seriously doesn't mean a damn thing.
The Grammy's are the biggest joke awards of all these dumb award shows and thats saying alot because they all really suck. The Oscars are the most legit of them all but still they are pretty silly especially the Oscar best song catagory.
Funny how THIS Generation wants to Honor these legends when the generation that spawned these guys wouldn't give them the time of day. Way ahead of their time, eh?
Neil has always been a fire-wand and his music isn't pop and bubblegum, so he won't match Taylor Swift but his music will live on much longer. And FYI, Reprise Records, which he mentions, was formed by Frank Sinatra.
Neil doesn't hanker to become a puppet of the music industry of today. His greatest award is not that Grammy, but his constant ability to touch the heart and soul of each one of us with his spectacular poetry!
Neil is growing kind and gracious in old age. But don't let the old softy fool anyone. Le Noise is as good as any work he has done. Agry World is great but I'd have taken either "Walk with me", or the autobigraphical "Hitch Hiker". I saw him Solo July 2010 at the Fox Theater in Oakland. Electric, Acoustic......A North American Treasure. Loved the Mavis comment. I am grateful for his good health and that I was able to take my 13 year old son to see him. Keep on Rockin in the Free World.

The grammies have never in my opinion had their finger on the pulse .When they inevitably do get round to that the man may very well be in the next world . Muse ? There were shed loads of better albums better and Neil Youngs was one of them
Hard to believe this is his first. I have a list of about 500+ songs he's written. What's wrong with these people? Don't they know what real talent is, and it's not about all the extra sound effects, lights, and lip syncing. . .a lot of w,at you see today. Guess I'm a die hard rock lover from the 60's and 70's and want to see recognition where it really belongs.
@khunopie Actually he's Canadian but you're right, he is American, and we can all be grateful that he has had that palette to work from. Maybe millions of people can say how much poorer their lives would be without this man's music. Very special.
I've been following Neil since 1969. The Grammy's haven't even given this guy a sniff even with classic albums like Harvest, Rust Never Sleep, and Freedom. Long overdue. Pretty bad state of Rock music when a 65 yo wins best rock song. lol "It's better to burn out than it is rust" Rock on Neil!!
The fact that this is Neil's first grammy ever for music is just SAD!!! Lady Antebellum walks away with their hands full and this LEGEND has to be grateful for one. Disgusting.
What a great musician and a great guy. Not in the least bit flashy but still delivers powerhouse performances, be it rock, country or folk. If Eddie Vedder, Wynonna Judd and Noel Gallagher can walk away from a Neil Young concert and say it's one of the best things they've ever seen, you know this is genuine talent.
That's not a reason. He's one of the greatest legends in the history of rock and the fact that he's only won his first grammy for music NOW shows just how irrelevant the Grammy awards are anyway.
@darkcowboyhero Awards are irrelevant. Awards are based on taste, sales and sometimes voting. Not everyone has the same taste for life, love, and music. Look at the Oscars, generally people care more about whaty the fuck they are wearing rather than what they are receiving the award for. Couldn't agree with you anymore.

Taylor Swift already has four Grammys. Young only has one. If that doesn't show you how fucked up and irrelevant awards are, you are beyond hope.

Neil Young is such a legend; he deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award (only he might be too young to receive it now!)
He puts 99% of the current songwriters to shame...
