I go to Pitt. I remember being in Schenley Plaza before the riots started. When the police and SWAT arrived they changed the whole mood on campus. They were nasty and gave us the most vile looks during the day when we were just walking around. I still get scared when I see cops.

I'm in college for Law Enforcement. We studied what the first amendment means. You do have free speech, and you can protest anywhere you like. However that right can be forfeited if the assembly or protest is deemed unlawful by the police.

I'm in college for Law Enforcement. We studied what the first amendment means. You do have free speech, and you can protest anywhere you like. However that right can be forfeited if the assembly or protest is deemed unlawful by the police.

@axllaruse You have to ask for permission because it's an obvious public hazard to simply decide "Hey, I'm going to go protest in the middle of a normally busy street right now! Blocking off traffic? Who the hell needs that?
And hell, what if an accident were to happen? Like someone possibly faints from dehydration, or trips and falls? What if people get into an argument and start a fight? Who needs publicly paid for services to handle that?"

Notifying the authorities? Why? So they can be present and beat me up earlier? To tell me to go home in the first moment I arrive? Emergency services? @APRtunedAudi I don't know about all cases of supposed police brutality, sorry.
Maybe I will thank you one day for opening my eyes, but I doubt it. I have felt police batons more then once, I have been hit by horses and I have been maced, but I don't even think of complaining. In all these cases, it was deserved or at least explainable, and I'm not such a pussy that I first get in trouble and then come crying if it hurts.

The police is responsible for maintaining order, even if it was your bedroom in which the riot took place. They tell you to leave, then leave. If you don't you take the risk to get hurt. Complains can be filed later, to the police themselves or their superiors, not on Youtube.

In many cases, the system works, but people are just unreasonable. I have seen too many examples of that and VERY few real police brutality. And no examples at all of unreasonable brutality against entire crowds.
