Mr. Chapin is a hero of mine. I kinda, good or bad, lived both this wonderful work and Taxi. He gave us to share such wonderful gifts. Let us not lament, but teach?
An actual STARGATE/PORTAL-THING was caught on film in New Mexico. The footage can be found within the short-film entitled "SUDDEN PORTHOLE", which is parked at the PROJECT CAMELOT YouTube page (it's under the George Noory video).

I'm losing my dad to kidney failure. I think in terms of what I should have done with the time we had. But, my priorites never seemed to be about him. I'm telling you, appreciate those you love, they're gone before you know it.
Since the first time I heard this song, I said it would never be me..... and my mother would always remind me of the day that I said it. I tried.... I really tried....
My ex-wife is an alcoholic and drug addict and the judge gave her custity of my 2 boys 11 and 9 I can take them anytime because she can go out and get drunk with her crestwood IL copper that lives with her and my boys want to live with their 13 years clean and sober father thats me
No fancy electronics, computers or lights. Just a couple guys with basic instruments, great writting and wonderful voice, LOVE this while we can there will never be music like this again
@fabfamily2009 I definitely want to spend more time with my 9 yr old son. *tear* The part about 'throwing the ball' really chokes me up. My boy just asked me to throw it with him the other day, but 'Dad' is always busy, and just like the song, he says "that's okay." How have I been blessed with such a good boy?
When I was in my 30's, this was a beautiful song. It's thirty years later now, my own son is older than I was when I first heard this. Made it all the way though the first verse before the tears started. Would that God could let us correct the "sins" we failed to see as we were maturing/achieving. In reality, the sins of the father are eventually revisited ON the father. I hope he can forgive me.
I knew Harry and his extended family. Astronomers, Labor Organizers, Painters, Filmmakers, Anthropologists, Activists, Singers I had the opportunity as a young man to spend countless weekends at the family's summer property in Northern New Jersey, 40 odd years ago.
I have didnt know my dad his whole life. Anyway i love this soung it has true meaning. If ya dont like it its pretty simple / go fuck off in your own little depressing dwelling...,,./. HAHAHAHAHAHA
This song always pisses me off because it reminds me that the old man took off when I was around 5 and never called or wrote. I would've appreciated my mom talking about him a little, but she never did. Not even to call him an asshole. Just a huge blank in my life that no one talked about. I tried to fill that hole with drugs and alcohol. Now finally, after 40 years I have my dad on my FB friends list, but I haven't heard from him since last Oct. He's probably dead. See you in hell, dad.
Josh I met your dad a couple of times in Seattle and Sue Gensel was his secretary for many years and she is my wife's aunt. He felt like family to us and I think my favorite song is "All my Life's a Circle"
I never liked this song, when I was a kid it reminded me of how my own father was largely unavailable. A very pretty and intelligent teenage girlfriend once related to me how she appreciated this song, I imagine her older brother and father were in her thoughts. I owe my friend and Mr. Chapin a lot. I've never forgotten this message, and I put my family first. I have a wife and two kids <4, spending time with them, teaching, learning, laughing, and loving, that's life.
This song is the epitome of me and my son Scotty! In the day, it was me in the military and Scotty waiting for daddy. Now the tides have turned and I wait for him!! Funny how the cycle of life works,, isn't it?!
Harry Chapin is without a doubt the greatest story teller of all that came out of the sixties and seventies. This song is a tribute to fathers and sons and really hits home with me when I think of my father who passed away 6 years ago. I am my father's son. I became him in every way and all I can say is I am proud to be like Dad. Without his guidance and love I do not know what I would have become. That guidance and love taught me to be a good father to my own two sons.
I wish my boy could be the person in this song, he didnt make it he left me at 30 and four little hims are left 1,2,6,10.. he was just like me ,and i was so proud
When I was 3, I tried to shave my face with my dad's safety razor, and, I cut myself shaving in the process. I have a scar on my face now. I guess Mr. Chapin wasn't wrong.
at 9:26 PM last night, my first son was born, when my wife fell asleep i went home to prepare for his arrival and this song came on the radio at random...i had to pull over to the side of the freeway because i couldnt see through my tears. Greatest song ever.
Heard this song recently and it made me cry. Now I am a father of a 10 year autistic son and I am just like my dad and his! I pray he can be like me someday and have a successful and independent life. My dad only played ball once in my life with me but the hurt never goes away! I now know how hard it is to break the cycle and really devote yourself to them before they don't care anymore! Don't wait until it is too late!
My Dad was a truck driver. Left for work at 4am get back at 7-8pm. And He would unwind w/ me and my brother n have me tell him a story. I was the babygirl of the fam. My teens had me so angry but he lost his leg and I would make him cd's from this time n cheer him up. He got a prosthetic now but he soo loves this song.
@elkupong Damn... As a father , that stomped all over me, although I know it wasn't meant for me. It shames me, and all the other fathers out there, to even be associated with another like that.. I am sorry (truly). My Mother was always my "father" also. Peace.
I heard this song when it first came out. I was so moved I swore a sacred oath I would never be like that to my kid. Many years later I had a wonderful son. For 22 years now we have a total open channel of communication. I besides love I taught him nearly everything I know about life so he would not have to make the same mistakes I did. My folks never did that. This song improved our very lives. As a fellow musician/songwriter/father I know it's not easy to write a song that reaches so many!
I loved you Harry, and I was so blessed to actually shake your hand, and briefly speak to you at Huntington High School--about November of 1980! I posted pictures of Harry and Tom at my facebook page! Love to all Harry Chapin fans, BobbyK Harry was a very special, loving, human being!!!
@elkupong Your pops probably had issues with the way he was raised..and I know 2 wrongs don't make a right but he should be forgiven for your own health and well being.
Obviously it was more enlightening than your dumb@ss comment of "Sounds like she wants to take credit for the song". Not only are you an idiot for thinking that, you are a prick for posting such a thing. Pull your head out of your @ss and watch it again. No hint of wanting to take any credit... only a devoted, loving wife with a nice memory of her husband, then her son... but you want to be a dick about it. You are a Jerry Springer Show type of person, all the way.
@debo964 I hate people like you who self-censor yourself. It's not like anyone will scold you for using swears and it doesn't make you any better for censoring the word.
It is a great song. We can feel that important times we lost because everytime we find something more important than our closest....but it is just an illusion, later we realize we can't go backward the time so that minutes remain lost for us forever.
Josh your dad was such a great man. I met him at a concert in Norfolk, VA I was just a teenager he was so nice he hung around and I got his autograph and I still have it. I miss you Harry.
This song and CCR's Someday Never Comes (where CCR's is extremely blue).are similar in message; but the feeling of love and the emotions that run through me are completely different. Somehow Cats ITC, is more of vision, a warning, a fear; sort of like looking in the mirror at the man that I should be; at the same time it brings opposite emotions when I think of my father--he was the best. Now my 10 Year-old listens and cries to this song--then just hugs me and says "i Love You Dad". Thanks HC.
Ah the 60's and 70's. When real musicians with real feelings actually wrote songs with real meaning, and record labels had common sense and let the music flow through the airwaves and top the charts. When the media simply promoted the MUSIC and noone gave a rats ass about how the artist looked and dressed and what they did in their spare time.
The people actually listened to the words of the songs and learnt from them, truly taking in the music at hand.
Father-Daughter relationships are special, too! I <3 and miss my dad every day- God Rest His Soul! As a kid, he worked 16 hrs a day 6-7 days a week, but he was always there for me and my 6 siblings. I'm glad I was there for him too during his last years on Earth.
A Father -to-Son relationship is unlike any other relationship, it has more power than any other, not Mother-Daughter, not Father-Daughter, not Mother-Son, There is just something in a Father-Son relationship that women will never fully understand
This song was bad enough when I was a kid with me having such a wonderful dad, but now after having two young boys of my own it is even worse...can't listen to it without tearing up.
This song came out a couple of years after my folks split up. Dad was gone on business trips so much it was six weeks before I figured out this was a little more serious. He never did figure it out, and although I'm his daughter, I've grown up much like him.
My folk's divorced in 1969, when I was 5. I remember this song from my childhood. Sadly, it didn't effect my father as he moved away remarried and had two more kids (I've never met). My father forgot about me and my 2 brothers. Now, I hear that he is in a hospice suffering from Alzheimer's. How ironic. He wanted to forget, God obliged
People are relating how this powerful song effects them. The older you get, the more distant the memories and the more you realize it is too late to go back and fix the shit we screwed up.
Judging from your comment, you are still at the stage in your life where you are still doing the screwing up. Your regrets will come soon enough, don't go looking for them.
i really never had a good relationship with my father and still dont to this day i now have 2 children whom he has never met but i have to thank my step father who stepped in his place and treated me as his own and taught me to be the person that i am today my kids call him grandpa and i call him my dad it takes a man to make a baby but it takes a bigger man to stand in another mans place.
this is a great piece and so nice to see Sandy and Josh.. Josh I'm lookin forward to hearing you pick up where your father left off.. the years have been to far and long without a Chapin singing.
@resserection1 my Father was the greatest man I've ever will know If I could only be half the man he was I coould put down this fucking bottle. By no means was he abusive. Guess the song is different to us.
A giant 6'4" 230 lb grown man of nearly 40 can be reduced to tears in seconds by this song. My wife and I have 4 wonderful children, but we both work full time and I have a home based business as well just to get by. I can hear the echo of those beautiful childrens voices in my head begging me to run and play with them. So many times I was too busy, or too tired. When I think about all the times they were made to feel that way I just can't keep back the tears. Today, I will not be too tired!!
i love this song so much i cry my eyes out everytime i hear it. this was the last song i heard with my great uncle before had past away because of a heart attack i was bout ten then it was one day befor my birthday.. im 18 now n everyday i miss him this song means alot to alot of ppl thank you harry chapin for making such a great song
i hope i'm just like my pops. im turning 20 in a month, and he still plays catch with me. this song really puts it into perspective...you get one family, but if done right, ones all you need.
hug your kid, even if he doesn't, or can't, hug you back, in hopes some day he wil;
Miss you Harry. We sang these songs in circles, growing up. 30 years since your passing... time goes by so fast. Make the best you can of each moment & give much & live for many, share your dreams in deeds, Harry's action, talent, and vision showed us what one man could do...Oh if a man tried to prove what one man's life could be worth. Now if we all tried, to do that
Thank You, You Tube, for supporting the Series of Cats In The Cradle, in loving memory of the Lost, Missing, or Exploited Children, Mr. John Walsh, Host & Founder for our Face Book WALL. We hope to apprehend the correct criminals of Adam's murder through partnership and support. I will light a candle on Sunday, in memory of all Lost, Missing or Exploited Children. Thank you, Harry Chapin for your song. Cats In The Cradle. *****Stars. We LIKE it!
I saw Harry Chapin play when I was 7 and back then it was just music,,now that I am grown I look back and I relaize how lucky I was,,,Now that my dad has skin cancer I always call him and I make sure to tell him I love him,,My dad taught me to always be proud and have honor,,,I carry that around with me everyday, being a Father to 2 girls I am even have been making sure I teach them to respect and honor themselves, To Harry and his Wife..Thank-You for making such a life teaching song..RIP HARRY
it just real sorry to say a song like this, would expose some of us to our failings. i'm no better than what this story tells. sometimes we learn all too late of our mistakes. but what can we do, when we first have our kids in our youth, the kids don't come with instruction manuals. we learn all too late. life sucks sometimes.
My dad just passed away, and I inherited his knifemaking shop. My biggest regret was simply being too busy with my life to really and truly appreciate how skillful he was until I was cleaning out and packing up the stuff, and I was able to see his genius at each level of construction of a knife, along with his design of custom tooling and benches. I hope I can honor his skill with my own, but I have a lot to learn. In the meantime, I have to figure out how to get this song out of my head!
@KayakMike1963 its been over ten years since my dad passed two i didnt inherted any thing and when he passed i was liven in falrida at the time had to ride a bus for 24 hours to get back to sparta wisconsin for his funral i mDE FRIENDS WHEN I WAS 5 AND I WAS MY BEST FREIND SINCE THEN GOD BEI
i never had a real father, a step dad who tried but didnt have a clue. i now have a daughter i love to bits but the courts wont let me see her. what can i do do but hope this doesnt happen to us?
Song hits home whether your a mom or a dad now a days... Love Love Love

You are a Jerry Springer Show type of person, all the way.
debo964 3 months ago
I guess daddy didn't love you enough. If I had an ahole of a child as yourself I wouldn't bother with you either.

@debo964 I hate people like you who self-censor yourself. It's not like anyone will scold you for using swears and it doesn't make you any better for censoring the word.
Fuck you,

It is a great song. We can feel that important times we lost because everytime we find something more important than our closest....but it is just an illusion, later we realize we can't go backward the time so that minutes remain lost for us forever.

It really is a lesson long lost.

Today, I will not be too tired!!

hug your kid, even if he doesn't, or can't, hug you back, in hopes some day he wil;
Now if we all tried, to do that

it just real sorry to say a song like this, would expose some of us to our failings. i'm no better than what this story tells. sometimes we learn all too late of our mistakes. but what can we do, when we first have our kids in our youth, the kids don't come with instruction manuals. we learn all too late. life sucks sometimes.
