  • Three cheers and many many more for the mighty Mary Flower.

I think she has one of the most authentic rag time piano derived styles going.

Up there with Steve James and others who i cannot think of right now.

She is also a GREAT instructor. She has been at Swan Gathering many years and manages to teach this complex stuff to a room of 12 people , and people get it cuz she explains and demonstrates so well with patience and accuracy.

  • I first came across Mary on JamPlay.com She has 20 or so lessons on there focusing on fingerstyle blues, and their great!! Helped my playing 100% Not sure of the year, but I believe the L-00 is correct of the guitar. If you have several (many several) thousand dollars you can get one at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. • Discovered this video purely by chance while looking for "Lightnin Wells". Ain't youtube great? This is a jewel and I hope to find out more about Mary.

  • Mary is a great player. Lives in Portland, OR. She's also a really nice lady. If you want to try her stuff a bit more, I'd recommend her CD, Ragtime Gal; it's a great, solid intro to her playing. I also like Lightin' Wells - 'Ragtime Millionaire' is a great little album. I've never caught him live, though. Maybe next time I get out to NC.

  • This is Mary's 1934 - I think! - Gibson L00. A great little guitar - huge sound - in the right hands!

  • What a beautiful performance. What kind of Gibson is that, anyone know?

  • an L-00 perhaps? amazing playing.

    Vic

  • I'm a huge fan. "Keep your lamp trimmed and Burning" is one of my favorites also. I wish I lived closer to Portland. Check out Mary Flowers website. She is great and an inspiration to those of us playing the blues. Thanks
