@laser193781 Actually like it says in the DESCRIPTION.... ONE of them is Steve Cockerill. He is the one in front, out of shot from most of this video.
He's pushing the limits on a run by having the boom at 180 degrees. At that angle there's a fine line between going fast and capsizing. A touch too far past 180 and the boat capsizes in an instant. Bingo..your're in the water!
@eabassili Yeah... Its a 'v' shaped bar at the back of the boat (the bar is also angled upwards). Each end has a bolt on, which goes through the traveller fairleads. It then has a nut on the end to stop it coming out. The whole thing is tied to the rudder pintles and hooked into the gunwhales. The camera (a GoPro) is held on with a pole mounted clip.
Why do all people criticise sailing videos. He may have made a mistake but it is not a reason to get flustered all of a sudden. Just relax, you don't have to correct everything that you see. Peace.
@indoboardkid The proper method of "spilling the wind" is to either loosen the sheet or turn upwind. The loose vang causes the leech to sag and therefore create turbulent airflow around the sail, making the sailboat slower and unstable. While the boat still moves fast enough to plane, the instability is especially noticeable on a run or broad reach. For example, it caused the capsize at 2:12. Note that capsizes happen more often because of instability than because of "too much wind."
@FlyGuy2480 heading up is the most stupid thing to do thats so slow. having a loose kicker opens the leech making it more stable and whats wrong with a capsize its pushing the limits so when you race you know how far too push it.
@mikeloveswatersports I won't touch this anymore with a 20-foot pole. I don't like being YouTube's open Wikipedia resource when I am limited to 500 characters of plain text. The web is wide open for you to surf.
thats not even steve cockerill

Have you ever heard of a boom vang? In this video, it is WAY TOO LOOSE! Please tighten it!

@FlyGuy2480 the vang is off as if it was on ..the leech would not spill wind nd the boat will capsize !!!
