  • The spirit of this song is the string arrangement. There is a live version without the orchestra strings and it's so whiny and poor. In those days the line between country and rock/pop was so thin and the arrangement made sure that rockers would dig in. And to prove it, at 1:43 that guy in the middle is seriously rocking!

  • Great song and message...let's stop building up people to be something they are not and enjoy each other now...you take the good and you take the bad...and hope love wins out in the end in friendship or more...It's a positive song actually...no relationships lost here...the song is just keeping it real...

  • Mar Kjartansson Nice Song but not many times in the Radio.

  • i still rember how much of a classic this song was back then, and to day it still sounds just as good as it did way beack then as well.

  • Thank's for this country classic, Just listen to that backing arangement particularly the strings and vocals - fantastic.

  • i have loved this song ever since i was a lil kid since my granny loves it so mych shes now 76 and she does not even look it neither does my gpa

  • She really reminds me of Glinda the good witch in the Wizard of Oz.

  • I still love it.

This is classic groundbreaking crossover (country/rock). Those are hipsters dancing -- this isn't Hee Haw.

  • Lovely and timeless..

    Happier Days.

  • einfach nur geil dieser song fred

  • This song is high class! Fine tune and lyrics. I´m enjoying it like the guy 1:45

  • geiler song, immer wieder

  • The good old days when , if they printed something up on the screen, it was never quite straight.

  • Great song. Remember listening to it as a young person. Good stuff.

  • I don't really remember listening to this song (it came out a few years before I was born) but I feel like I know it. I probably heard it a lot as a child (it sounds like the kind of song my parents would have listened to a lot). The most bizarre thing is the end of this vid - the voices of Waldorf and Stadler (from The Muppet Show)!

  • amazing song , my mom sung it to me when i was a baby and she died when i was young so i love it , the best song ever , im crying now , go on lynn , pity she was recently arrested for drink driving in cali

  • The wonder of 70's song....

  • samgee2007, what are you on about?

  • hmm i think that most of those dancers were on some type of halluciangant especially the guy in the suit watching the tube. Top Ten Funniest dance vid around.

  • Beats anything in the last 20 years

  • They just dont write em like this anymore. It was a different world then. Thank you for posting this.

  • I like the song and I don't think any song I listen to or like are islamic. Oh well. A songs religous orgins are pretty low on the list of criteria for a "good song" for me.

  • what the hell has this song got to do with islam and muslims?

  • nothing?

  • thats what I was thinking! look at the comments below me

  • great song which i havnt heard for ages....anyone know if this lady is still going....

  • An all-time superhit! Always a great pleasure to listen again. So many thanks!!!

  • muy agradable

  • Learn to respect people who are no muslims ok!

  • Nice song. However is the hard core dancing necessary? LOL!

  • I was looking this vid up for an elderly friend. VERY VERY COOL!! I woulda loved to have been there

  • Thanks...

  • beautiful video clip

btw from where did you get the sounds on 2:51 and after?

  • ...The muppet show, I think...the two Ole men muppets...

  • Wow! Great song. A lot of memories.

  • J. WOODS ARE YOU THERE?

  • lol at the end

  • This song was originally written to be sung by a man "promise you things like big diamond rings" however Lynn performed it so well that it became associated with her, and thus we have a country music hit from one of the prettiest voices to ever grace country music. (Source: Wikipedia)

  • Im sending my best wishes to a great person with this song, who tried to give me good advice with the lyrics of this song but I was too distracted to pay attention.

  • you are a great person unusualsuspect71

  • wow, this is real country music, tragedys of life and also love the big hair

  • You just took me back to 30+ years of my life. Thank you so much.

  • I LOVE THIS AMAZING xx

  • I am into this song, but has there ever been a song with so many cliches? From the dancing and the very whiteness, I'm pretty sure this show was not in the US, but does anyone know where in Europe?

  • This show was in the UK ... "Top of the Pops". Very unusual that a "country" singer would be on this show, but gotta remember this song hit the top of every chart.

  • It used to be that white here.

  • The dancing is so bad, must be from a show in Germany.

  • thank you for that comment! listened to it and started crying! then had one of the BEST laughs i've had (in my recent life) in i don't know how long !!!

  • actually didn't notice your comment till i saw that guy in the white suit!!! that's what did it! reminds me of OH ... there's just TOO many references. and for some reason I don't think it's a racist statement!!

  • When I was a kid growing up in the 1970's, my mom used to play this song on her record player just to drive me up the wall as I hated the song. However, in the years since then, I've actually enjoy listening to the song, as Lynn Anderson did a terrific job with it. Thanks Lynn!!!

  • Great song. Great singer.

  • i dont know how wyndfalcon got on there its orangy38

  • A GREAT EVER CLASSIC

  • this song reminds me of my nana, who i miss so much, makes me cry everytime is listen to it. love you and miss you x

  • And this reminds me of my grampa

  • I love this voice..I love this song

  • This song reminds me of my nan dancing pissed at crimbo !!!

  • Great timeless classic as for the dancers they seem to be on lsd lol besides this song is a mellow cheek to cheek tune. Frantic body movements is a result of people on uppers.

  • amazing song love it sooooooo beautiful and happy

  • my mother brought me up listening to this song and it just keeps getting better!

  • Maravilhosa, os verdadeiros melhores tempos,

VAI UMA MEIA DE SEDA? ou CUBA-LIBRE?

  • Her trademark was always long, beautiful, blonde hair. Gorgeous lady!

  • mY FAVOURITE IS 1970

  • wow, great old number but those dancers are sing to a different tune surely, great stuff!

  • my mam lover Lynne of the big hair,God bless them!

  • We remember that she won LE CONCOURS EUROVISION DE LA CHANSON with this song.

    A very beautiful melody.

    AURORA

  • She appeared at the Topsfield Fair in Mass in 2001 and she looked damn good

  • long haul listen in

  • Haha, she reminded me of Candice Bergen.. same cheeks ;)

    Love this song :)

  • It's a sweet song.

"Rose garden, I beg your pardon, let's be jolly.." It's got a touch of English garden about it.

    Sung beautifully by Lynn Andersen.

One of those Seventies songs that never seems to fade.

  • Are there any less talented, out of sync dancers on planet earth than at this tv show???

  • I really love this song.

  • I'm 17, it is very cool!!

  • You must have been older than 1.5, the song came out in late 1970, and didn't become a monster hit until early 1971.

  • The writer of this song is Joe South. He's written several classics ... Games People Play, Walk a Mile in My Shoes, Down in the Boondocks, Hush, and the list goes on. He also wrote two other #1 songs for Lynn Anderson, besides Rose Garden.

  • Happy 61. Birthday!!!! I love this song!!!

  • It's Lil Jon's next cover!!

  • WONDERFUL!!! This song remembers me when I was in the 2nd. grade in the Elementary School. I love it! I say hello to you from Mexico!

  • Great song. Dancers seem to be tripping on acid.

  • Could there be a group of more non-talented dancers assembled in one place??

  • what a great song! my mum used to sing it when i was a kid

  • perfect song!!!!!!

  • I met her once, and she was very kind, often wondered what she is doing now days ?

  • according to wikipedia she is in troble with drugs and the law, very sad.

  • I saw her at a party here in Taos, NM last week with Mentor Williams and she seemed fine.

  • she had a problem with alcohol but has since been to Betty Ford. She's back headlining MAJOR casinos and concert halls. I just saw her at the second largest casino in the WORLD - Mohegan Sun (in CT) - she was headlining. ... she looked and sounded great!

  • Berndexplorer .. she had a problem with alcohol but has since been to Betty Ford. She's back headlining MAJOR casinos and concert halls ... doing great!

  • I wouldn't trust Wikipedia, I think she drove drunk twice, in 2004 or something, but who are we to judge, maybe she had a bad year, some problems that we don't know about, I haven't heard any thing else bad about her, maybe she got whatever problems it was that she had, taken care of, I hope so

  • Lovely song!

  • I'm thinking of singing this song for the school district choir auditions...

  • Go for it, it's a great song

  • brought back memories of another time; my first husband who died too young at the age of 33 loved this gal; he had her records and drove me crazy playing them over and over; after he died i played them for a long time as a way of being close to him then one day i took a hammer and smashed them to pieces out of mad mad rushes of painful grief; anyho been a very long time since i have heard her sing

I actually have this song as a ringtone and it's set to my EX-HUSBANDS cell phone number. That way when he calls my cell, I know instantly and laugh my behind off.

  • Thankyou for posting this.

  • I love it at 1:42 where it cuts away to the rec room of the local sanitarium.

  • From Wards Cafe Juke Box to Craig's 70's Partys to meeting Lynn Anderson at The Melrose Hotel in Dallas 1983 when I was a guest services agent. She is really a nice person. Neither of us knew how to open a bottle of Champene; Lynn and I spilled some on my uniform. She was one of the friendliest guest we had...

    Everyone Loves Lynn...

    K.C.

  • Can the words be more truth than this...?(Anyway...I didn´t promise you a rose garden... ;-) ...there´s got a be a little rain sometimes...)

  • Konge!! var på konsert med hun På Breim i år..dyktig!:D

  • Wow this si an old school song and I do remember this song!

  • those people dancing reminds me of the old

high school dances..you know the ones you would sneak into half snapped on lemon gin...

  • This is a brilliant song, I love it

  • Dr. Charles Follen McKim Maloney gave the patent to the Andersons Polka Rose to Don Vidor Guitron, former Mayor of La Penita, Mexico, where they are grown exclusively.

  • Dig those strings at the start sooo much! Killer song and crossover Country hit extraordinare. Thanks for the share!

  • It was the clever addition of these strings that made this song a hit. That was a Lynn Anderson original with the addition of those strings. The original recording by Joe South did not have those strings at the beginning. And today, can you image this song without the pile-driver string section at the beginning?

  • 探していました。

    どんな人が歌っているのかずっと気になっていたのですがイメージしていた人とはチョット違いました。

    でもいずれにしてもup有難う!

    thank you for posting this

  • Thanks for posting!

  • A classic and the lyrics are so true...

  • 1:37 - 1:42 too cool for youtube

  • LLLOOOOLLLL

  • What a beautiful and fun song!!

  • i'd hit it

  • first record i ever bought and is still one of my favourites never get tired of hearing it

  • What a beautiful woman with some class and a well written song. They just don't make either like that anymore. Too bad.

  • dec 1970, jan 1971. i was in the 8th grade.105.000. hits on this song....hmmmmm, must have been a one hit wonder.i still dance to this, and any bar or club, this song still gets people up and dancin.

  • peteboy - One Hit Wonder, my ass! Lynn Anderson was one of the biggest names in country music in the '70s/early '80s. She's had 8 number ones, 18 top tens and over 50 in the top 40. Rose Garden was her only POP hit, but that was just a fluke. She was/is a country singer, not a POP singer. Duh!

  • brilliant.

  • Lol, she looks like big bird off Sesame street

  • LOL, she was also 9 months pregnant with her first child, Lisa, at the time....hence the reason she looks like BIG BIRD!

  • She looks like a drag queen!

  • long time ago.

  • Nice hair, huh? :D

  • great I love that

  • Venerated Scottish psychiatrist Dr. Charles Follen McKim volunteered his choreography skills for this particular performance as a personal favor to Miss Anderson.

  • I just don't understand how that dancing and Lynn's tune go together...I beg your pardon.

  • my mothers favourite song! rest her soul.

  • this song is ace lol i love it!!!!!!!!!

  • dirtycarpetfluff, Dr. Charles Follen McKim Maloney often said that nothing sucks like an Electrolux. With a name like yours, would you agree?

  • Dr. Charles Follen McKim Maloney often hypothosised on the idea that persons who listened to Rose Garden had a better sense of humor than others.

  • You are welcome, sir. I quite admired your humor as well. Dr. Maloney and I shared many a laugh such as this while he lived on Kilgraston Road.

  • It is a little known fact that Dr. Maloney often played "Rose Garden" in his green Rover with the Buick aluminum V-8 engine.
