Kevin, the real question everyone should be asking is "What if Michael Vick didn't play for the NFL and was poor." When you hear a story about some man living in the ghetto starting dog fights, killing dogs, electrocuting dogs, and stabbing dogs you automatically assume he's a horrible person and should spend a good amount of time in prison. Suddenly, when it's a rich NFL player that is a hero to a lot of kids, people start to let him off and say "oh everyone makes mistakes." Fuck that man.

There are plenty of great white guys who can play wide out, or running back...but are being overlooked. Just like black guys used to be at the QB position. @gretchaninoff The funny thing is white guys are facing the same stereotype problems that plagued blacks. There are plenty of great white guys who can play wide out, or running back...but are being overlooked. Just like black guys used to be at the QB position. But you don't hear anything about that, all you hear is there isn't enough black QB's or coach's. Well to me there isn't enough white players.

@gretchaninoff Now most people make the argument that the best players play and the best players happen to be black....which is fine but then you also have to say the best coach's coach and just happen to be white. But you will never see that argument. Somehow not having black coach's is a race thing but having a league where the majority is black isn't.
Also it is a passing league so any watered down RB that will get you three yards will do. It all really comes down to the line.

@zippy476 the only color that should matter is the color of your teams jersey. but just 4 the sake of a bs argument, there have been 5 black coachs in the last 5 super bowls, yet there are only 7 black head coaches out of 32. unfortunately, it was a race thing, not long ago, whites said blacks we'ren't smart enough to coach a team so they we'ren't given the interview or the opportunity.

It does not matter if he is black, white, mexican, orange, green, or yellow. He's a human being. I read the article and I think the guy who wrote it is one of those idiots who thinks that people who won't forgive Vick because he's black. Truth is animal lovers (like myself a black woman) wouldn't give a crap if he was the same color as my hair, blue. QB throw the ball accurately over long distances, that takes a lot of practice to perfect. I doubt many black kids have the opportunity to practice and hone such skills at early ages.
How many black kids have access to back gardens or open fields, have a ball and a father(typically) to practice with, compared to whites? Not many I bet.

I think what the guy's tryin to say is that if he was white they probably would have given him a less harsh sentance because the penal system in the states seems to be pretty fucked up, no offence to my americans out there. But regardless of what happened in the past, I don't think people should be focusing on that cuz right now, all he is is a damn good quarter back and I think that's what we should be focusing on.

I think it's stupid, to me skin colour doesn't matter. In a perfect world it wouldn't but there are always idiots out there. I know a lot of middle eastern folks have problems here in my home town but I also think it's their own perception that they believe people have a problem with them when they don't. Regardless of Vick's skin colour I would have reacted the same way when I heard about the animal abuse.

oh and Kevin, what this dude meant I think when he said he would've probably chosen a different career is because he would have more opportunities based on his skin color alone and he would've had the option of a more secure career. I think that's good that people still keep saying things like that. For those that can't be bothered, he basically said: yes he would have been jailed if he was white, although there exists white privilege; yes his background and racial identity probably affected his life quite significantly (duh); and finally that the real issue is not what your past is but how you deal with your mistakes.
