I was surprised to find this late-mid Sixties styled pop song at your channel. The sould and lyrics impress as somewhat a follow-up to five o'clock world and it at least falls uder its shadow. Nevertheless, I have always loved this song.
Great group and one of the great songs of the 60's! Loved them so much that I went to see them in my original hometown of Detroit at one of the casinos about seven or eight years ago. The group sounded fine but consisted of four complete impostors. I understand that a few of the regular guys are back together now but they seem to only perform live in Western Pennsylvania, where they're from. It's all the result of a huge, ugly series of lawsuits over their name which you can read about on line.
This song never gets old -it's timeless and really evocative of the Sixties -the time of sock hops and drive in movies. There's a message in all the Vogues tunes even if they relied on other writers for their best hits. Check out "You're the One" if you really like this group.
This, along with "Land of Milk & Honey" has social overtones. The Vogues did the original "You Baby" before the Turtles. They never did a weak record on Co & Ce, but that all halted when they hit Reprise!
@PJDooWop ALthough they lacked the body of work of the more important vocal groups of the Sixtes, Five 0'Clock World and Magic Town were songs as good as any from the era, including by the Beatles and Stones.
@PJDooWop I also love the Vogues version of Nothing To Offer You, which was also done by the Fenways, another Pa . group ,boy did Pa. produce some great Doo Wops. Magic Town is one of my fav's Thanks, PJ for uploading, You have some great stuff, keep them coming.
ahh yes, the reality of chasing your dreams for so many... I'm sure too many in Hollywood could relate to this song. I agree that this was The Vogues' greatest period of recording. A really great song, and I have this 45 as well!

Definitely the best Vogues songs. Along with the Jaggerz two groups the Steel city can be proud of

If all of you like this, take a look for "Street Scene" by the Elgins, written, by what I can glean, the previous year.
It's even in the same key!

Tragic masterpiece. Killer melody and the Vogues do it complete justice. Devastatingly beautiful.

The Vogues took their name (I think) from the once popular Vogue Terrace, a club that entertained locals for years. Sadly it is gone.

Yes, the Vogue Terrace, which of course was consumed by fire.

Magic Town was written by the husband & wife songwriting team of Barry Mann & Cynthia Weill, who worked out of NYC's famous Brill Bldg.

I love the commentary on how the promise of city life isn't all it's snuffed up to be.
Hidden behind a wonderful pop ballad. :)
