They could stick around for another 15 or even 25 minutes while they fall further behind until the enemy is comfortable enough to move out and crush them, but its not worth their time. Realistically they lost awhile ago and the game has just been concluding for awhile. Especially when in a best of 3 or best of 5 series you will see early gg's to move on to the next game.

I'm not saying I think they should run around hiding their bases and making guerrilla war in the 1/3 match, I'm talking about how in WCIII they used to quit in the finals after losing a non-essential unit. Its a commentary of E-sports, not just Starcraft.

What I said is that for the cost marines smash carriers. Carriers are just as viable PvT as BCs in TvP IMO, I've only ever seen Kiwi pull it off and he did so with a lot of support for his Carriers. QXC pretty much forgot about every unit but the BCs. That's why they looked so ineffective.
