Willy De Ville was a genius who will be sadly missed. Not many people know that a lot of his early lyrics were inspired by medieval English folklore and he spent a lot of time in the early eighties living in a disused mill near Lowestoft, melting down old church bells to make bullets to shoot wolves.

 This is not the band that Willy formed in 1974. Mink DeVille broke up during the recording of Return To Magenta. Though credited, they didn't play on that album, which actually features Willy with studio musicians. If you want to hear the original Mink DeVille, you must listen to Cabretta or the tracks recorded for the CBGB compilation album.

One of my favorite bands to come out of the CBGB scene. Willie and his boys never got the attention they deserved. I saw them right before Coup de Grace was released.  Willie sizzled on that stage. Le Chat Bleu is an essential album.

Shit. Always hoped I could hear him sing, live, again. First caught Willie in 1979 with Mink Deville. A very formative influence on my art.

His later career was brilliant, too, as he resurrected the Blues and some old Spanish tunes, to which he gave the distinguished grace of making his very own.
