Wow... I was up until 1am last night trying to figure out the same issue! So, do the springs on those adjusters go inside (toward the car)? Doesn't seem right on our truck either (they were on the outside.
If im not mistaken, it looks like there is a clip missing to hold the adjuster lever to the shoe. Ive changed so many shoes....... Id be scared shitless without a jack stand..... especially with a truck! lol
@More350Power Hey 350, I hear you may know which way that adjuster spring is supposed to be on there? We are facing the same issue on our truck. The springs were on the outside, and it doesn't seem right... never touches the teeth of the adjustment cog. Seems better when you put the spring on the inside (like was done at the beginning of this video.) Do you know if that is the correct way to assemble? Thanks! Jon
@jonkoontz Ive been searching since this video how exactly these are to be installed. I have seen two ways, one of which you see in the beginning of this video. Now, when I look up factory information, it shows the adjuster spring to be pulling from right to left or vice versa from the adjuster to the shoe on the opposite side. If you pull outwards on the shoes as if you were applying them ( though you dont want to apply them with the drum off ) The lever should activate the self adjuster...
@jonkoontz .... or you should be able to see how its supposed to move. I am still doing some research cause the factory manual is not matching the assembly of what is even on the truck.
@doberfag lol I just dont know much about them. we got brake tools just cant find anything here. those brakes on the rear wernt doing much. yea thats the big house by the creek. got a concrete slab over there, uptown
You know why I like your videos--Because ya'all are just a bunch of good ole boys enjoyin life and gettin along. No headaches, no hassels, no drama, nothin but life and livin. Keep up the GREAT VIDS BlueRoads... Pete
@swrnc Thanks Pete I gave up on drama hassels and headaches, as long as the creek stays in it's banks im happy. we love your vid's because they teach us thing's that save us money. they are funny and serious and dramatic some times and allways informitive. what you do is hard and stressful and takes a world of patience.I'll be glad when it all pay's off for you, I know it will, thank's Blue Roads.
I throw those "self adjusters" away...There's usually a slot in the backing plate to manually adjust them any way.....And those riveted shoes scream ASBESTOS.!!
I can't believe he didn't put jack stands under it even after your suggestion...Good on ya Mr Blueroads.....I so much wanted to come over and.... "Stand aside people".....Where was that vid done.?..Have a good one mate.
@ziggassedup that is my folks house that is dads truck. asbestos oh no. he never wants a jack stand, i wont get under without one. i dont trust anything any more.
@MrBlueroads ...I've seen what happens when a jack slips.!!!!..Do him a favour the next time you're around and he doesn't want a stand...just slip one under any way....I would..
That Silverado doesn't look like an '04, more like '94.

@More350Power Hmm, could be, Sears did this to him. and they striped all the studs, I gotta have a jack stand Im scared to die like that.

@MrBlueroads I looked up an exploded view of how those brakes go together, the spring looks to be in the wrong place for the self adjuster.

get a dan brake tool they are cheap as hell, make putting that together easy. brake adjusters work if installed correctly.
