  • I HAVE GOT TO SEE DEREK LIVE

  • I would like to know what he uses to get his sound. All I hear is A"Fender Amp.", compressor sustainer.,Maybe a touch of ???

  • the fuck!! he uses his fingers too? hahaha i thought he had glass fingers....hahha

  • Excelent solo, great start, body, and climax. Textbook perfect! The drummer is a little cymbal happy? "The Bluesman" numero uno music critic.

  • bill murray in da house. Derek, you slay every time!

  • love this solo man!

  • That guy sings his ass off, better keep him! Someone please tell Derek he doesn't have to play so many stupid notes, my God, shut up for a minute and let it breath punk!!! Susans sounding pretty damn good here, not bad. The one, the only..."Bluesman" from Georgia, speaking the truth

  • @ebay9302 no disrespect but i think part of playing guitar for both derek and duane is just letting your feelings come out of the guitar.... duane went nuts sometimes too but nobody would even think about telling him to stop playing so many stupid notes. I thought this was a fantastic solo... Derek can make a crowd go silent, and that is the beauty of what he does. he moves people

  • I had the pleasure of seeing both of these gods live. They are dirtyyyyy!

  • those singers aren't supposed to be on the same stage with Derek Trucks...

  • @HunMett Yes they are, considering he's married to Susan Tedeschi, and she has a soulful and marvelous set of pipes on her.

  • and how the hell is this man on 81 one the roll stone greatest guitar??? >.< like wtf does some people can't hear???

  • @middlekidown14 I DISAGREED with the billboard top 100 greatest guitarist also, I wish i knew how they determined their rotation on the list

  • from 2:58-3:00.....no way

  • My favourite redhead Susan Tedeschi Brilliant and Derk Trucks is out of this world...Wow what a combination..I'm In Heaven

  • I hope they come back to Savannah sometime soon!

  • I meant 2011...grouse loved you two...superb Michael

  • Derek & Susan at Byron 2010... one of the best loved you guys'. Michael The Patch Vic, Aus

  • 0:10 best phrase

  • Great guitar --no pick as I play but why beat the fuck out of a guitar ---really

  • Derek Rocks!!!!!!

  • 2:32 <3

  • That solo had the soul of Skydog's Blue Sky woven all through it like shots of light. Just gorgeous.

  • @Suzywriter best comment ever.

  • @Suzywriter blue sky is the greatest rock song ever recorded and one of the best songs ever recorded. all because of duanes solo.

  • @tuulenkoti how can you say that?? this is one of the most colorful solos i've heard in a LONG time. what type of music do you listen to? just curious

  • @tuulenkoti ...another justin beiber fan i see...

  • @need4spd90 what an original insult. paul gilbert kills this asshole

  • @tuulenkoti ...another ignorant metalhead i see...

  • @dardedacdi45 nope not really. i love robert johnson. listen to paul gilbert's plastic dracula and youll understand. funkier than this nonsense.

  • @tuulenkoti, why are you listening if you dislike this so much?

  • @Suzywriter because i heard about him and gave it a chance !

  • @tuulenkoti That's got to be a joke. Derek is, without a doubt in my mind, the greatest to ever pick up an electric guitar. While I do think his tone could use a BIT of work (he's played that guitar/amp combo for too long), I don't think anybody has the feel that this man has when it comes to improvisation on the electric guitar. Trucks is the most virtuoso player of music in general since Yo-Yo Ma. He CAN "shred," (see Rocking Horse), but if he doesn't feel it, why should he choose to "shred"?

  • @tuulenkoti Could you say what makes it a horrible tone and why it is boring?

  • @benjyguitarful Because it is about as captivating as a pork pie.

  • @tuulenkoti why do you keep watching him then? I've seen you comment on other videos of him. Keep it to yourself.

  • Whether with the Allmans, DTB, or now with Tedeschi Trucks Band, Derek is soulful slide wizardry at its finest. Duane is smiling down in joy.

  • This entire show is killer--get the DVD, sit back, and enjoy!

  • Cannot wait to see these guys at the Warner Theatre in DC on Oct. 28th! Ablum of the year and show of the year!

  • man thats stupid good

  • Coming to Louisville Kentucky September 24, 2011.

Can't wait. Playing at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

    Tickets available.

  • EC sure can pull out the best for his charity fest!

  • Derek Trucks always plays in open E tuning.

  • Saw them last night... I am a new person.

  • one of the most lyrical and soulful rock guitarists of all time.

  • @realitymodel2 Wow! You are so right about that! I love watching this guy play!! He's coming to Houston with Susan in 2012 and you can bet I'll be there!!

  • That note at 1:52 is something else.. like light soaring through darkness

  • @barleyjuice open e, and standard for the most part.

  • @barleyjuice1 standard

  • derek you make skydog proud brother!

  • Does trucks generally use an opening tuning for the slide? Or is he sitting in standard for the majority/all of it?

  • just so lovely to see susan diggin her hubby's tones. saw them last wek - mindboggingly good band!

  • @chooseyourblues greatest GUITAR player of ALL TIME. Period.

  • i just burned all my guitars

  • i think i just got high by watching this video

  • is russell crowe's brother on bass?

  • is like... rory gallagher the 2nd

  • Mind blowing.

  • Greatest slide player in the world right now. Period.

  • watch....without the slide hes got emotion....with hes stoic. im not making a judgment i just love these guys.

  • i only recently got into derek trucks, seeing him playing onstage at so many clapton gig videos so thought i should check him out... SO GLAD I DID!

  • Tako u životu neću svirati, ali hvala Bogu da postoje ljudi koji to mogu, pa ih mogu slušati.

    Thanks Derek !

  • increible !!!

  • TTB - a little heaven on earth

  • the last solo actually sounds like something duane allman would play

  • best alive.

  • If my life were like that sound.... I would be the God maker.

  • This kid's been laying it down since he was 13. It's in his guts. His fingering is tops. And you're right about pulling out the slide. He's got that pup up and ready. I love this guy.

  • Not using a pick might limit your playing.. But clearly not Derek trucks. He (and his tone) wouldn't be the same with a pick.

  • Who's yo Daddy!

  • @GaryNull : You're wrong. Look at great flamenco or classical guitarists or even the Video above, I don't think they are limited by not using a pick .

In fact, there are limits with both techniques ...

Anyway, the only important thing is what you get from your fingers or pick. And DT gets some great things out.

  • His awesome everytime . I don't think I've ever heard someone better at blues improvisation . He plays guitar a way I've never heard before .

  • I love how even when he's not using the slide it sometimes sounds like he is... it's the phrasing.

  • putting the slide in your pocket when you aren't using it is about as cool as it gets.

  • @danogzilla ...and turning off and then on the voume knob at the same time. Then when he's done he puts the slide back and is already playing in a second. .

  • here's a lesson in timing and phrasing. there's left hand blues magic for sure, but all the [energy] is in the right hand.

  • singers are always looking so awkward when they're not singing.

  • wow ! the devil makes some guitar here !

  • @demethedream I agree. soo much soul

  • And the Lord sayeth let there be Derek

  • Where's this Honky Tonk piano shit coming from?

  • flippin awesome

  • Unbelievable lot of feeling goin' on there!

  • I think he is playing better than anyone alive today. An all time great in his prime.

  • I didn't know Shaq could play the drums.

  • @DaFeeshey thats Ronrico Scott bro...dont hate

  • Damn! O_o

  • Loving this!!!!

  • On the eveneing I saw this I noticed 302 people liked it + 2 people didn't.

I hope the 2 people who didn't like it have a change of heart. How easy it is in the digital world to be a critic; this team is about as good as it gets.

  • omg, tears in my eyes good!!!

  • Does he never show his eyes?

  • Thank the Stars we still have awesome people like Susan and Derek to keep the Blues alive and well... Stevie Ray is smiling down for sure...

  • @MKLinNC So is George Harrison!!!

  • @MKLinNC true that. And imagine Stevie jammin' with his heroes now. I can see him, Albert Collins, Jimi Hendrix, Albert King and all his other heroes chillin' together and jamming endlessly together! What a treat we'll be in for later!

  • @MKLinNC i agree but this isnt blues. stevie played 12 bar blues; this is just switching between 2 major chords. and dereks playing major 7ths!

  • i wonder how he tunes his guitar

  • @SebastianRocks02 Open E

  • @MrChrisguitar yeah i figured it would be an open tuning, amazing guitarist btw!

  • @SebastianRocks02 One string at a time ;)

  • What we have here is a very trained guitarist. Pretty amazing!

  • The classic Clapton riffs transformed by Derek using his Ali Akbar Kahn interpretation (never losing his Allman Brothers soul along the way) is beyond words wonderful. The drummer plays so well inside and around what Derek is doing. Masterful and majestic.

  • derek is one of my favorite players right now solos=tears

  • I'm a dislike by accident. I hit Like and was going to Add to favorites and my mouse messed up and stopped on that down thumb. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT. I love susan and this song with Derek's guitar is fantastic!!! I am sorry. I know everyone will be complaining about the Dislikes and just wanted to set the record straight. One doesn't count. It was an accident. This posting is great. Thank you.

  • @MyMoppet52 I don't usually like or dislike videos, but since I read this (after having my mind blown away by Derek's playing) I thought I'd make an exception. Equilibrium has been restored :D

  • @JeffVad3r I hit 'like' if it is fantastic. I'm pretty new to utube so that might change. I run some photo sights and it's discouraging to not get any feedback. I think I need a new mouse. Thanks! :)

  • perfecto

  • Where can I get a DVD of the whole concert?

  • what tuning is he using?

  • @whonoseguy Derek plays everything in an open E tuning, which low to high is E, B, E, G#, B, E

  • Even when he plays with his fingers it still sounds like a slide! Fucking awsome player.

  • He plays it like a bass! Phenomenal audio too, kudos

  • Some day im gonna swap my epiphone SG for a Gibson 61' Re-issue just like his :P

  • Beautiful finger-picking! Like Gibson timbre..

  • Ay caramba!

  • nothing but feeling

  • Nothing but feeling.

  • such a signature guitar playing style

  • I just hate the vocals here...Whitlock and Clapton gave it a raw emotionality that is just lost in the clean version of Tedeschi and the other dude...love Trucks' playing tho

  • Amazing guitarist. Check out the way he uses his left hand. His technique is bizarre.

  • 0:35 happy man smiling in the background! haha amazing

  • derek trucks is a giius he can play slide guitar without a bottleneck

  • I died and went to heaven... Shivers up the spine

    Woohooooooo!

  • I died and went to heaven...

  • The closest living thing to the genius of Duane Allman.

  • Who needs a pick when your fingers are made of gold?

  • @FearBeauty1 Not using a pick on the guitar seriously limits your playing.

  • @GaryNull nuh uh

  • @GaryNull I wonder if you could explain what Derek could have gained by using a pick in this song or any other? I understand that "I" am limited when I don't have a pick, but even with a pick I can't do what he is doing. I also believe that it is more common to see slide players use their fingers. I think it would be a more accurate statement to say that always using a pick seriously limits your playing. Please enlighten us.

  • @GaryNull Can't say I agree. I often use a pick but I don't see how a purely finger style technique can be seen as seriously limiting when it allows for such a huge variety both in what you play and how you play it. The fact that Derek Trucks gets one of the best guitar tones I have heard in a long time playing without a pick, slide or no slide, should be good evidence of this.

  • @FearBeauty1 gold? or soul?

  • how did this video get two dislikes??? somebody's finger must have slipped!!!

  • 1:53 that soaring note so duane allman...

  • shit gives me chills

  • He is so blessed.

  • which pickup is best to use when playing slide?

  • @dahudge14 There is no pickup which is best for slide. It is up to you, try different guitar . To me, to slide : a high action. Telecasters and hollow body guitars sound great when you slide

  • is the girl janiva mangess?

  • @captross07 Susan Tedeschi - Derek Trucks wife

  • I was privileged to see Duane Allman with the Allman Brothers Band before his untimely death almost 39 years ago, and he was absolutely a guitar genius who played with unbelievable soul and skill! But anybody who doubts Derek Trucks' genius and/or soul needs to see this video! Watch how his hard and sure his right fingers pluck the strings and his incredible fret work with the slide--that's passionate, sublime playing by a master axman! Skydog would love it!!

  • 2 people missed the like button!

  • I saw them perform this in Hilo, Hawaii last year. Amazingly talented! WOW!

  • i may as well add another comment saying how amazing that solo is.. geez...

  • this is dimensions apart from the music i have to listen while working: pop shit vomit

  • Fingers on an SG sound good. His technique is similar to Knopfler.

  • WTF!!!! derek is my new fav guitarist

  • Open E tuning for this anyone?

  • makes me wanna learn how to use the slider now

  • Its sad guys like these don't get the credit they deserve

  • For all you young folks out there who never saw Duane live------appreciate Derek while you have him. He is a phenominal player and I certainly hope we have him a lot longer than we had Duane. RIP Skydog

  • my ears just lost their virginity

  • i love todds green jag :D

  • Derek's getting Laid Tonight

  • Happy Birthday Derek, best husband and wife combo I've ever heard.

  • talk about havin fun....!

  • trucks = perfect sound, perfect licks.

  • sweet

  • he's not from the future...

    he's from the past...

    Duane Allman reborn...

  • He's a fucking robot. From the future.

  • derek trucks is literally the perfect guitarist. every lick and note he hits is juuuusssttt right

  • Fuckin' smokin!

  • i think the best part about this video is Bill Murray dancing his ass off in the background. that's when you know you're the real deal.

  • great guitar player. AAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++

  • ...Derek Trucks is the smoothest, hippest musician active today.

  • If there is any player who is closer to Duane Allman than Derek Trucks...I have yet to see him....

  • Is it just me or does Derek have a very unorthodox finger picking style? It seems to me like he picks like a bassist. Hey, whatever works, and this is WORKING.

  • genius a love your tone!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This song is fantastic, and DT can play like very very few I've ever seen. Definiately the top 1percent of all guitarists out there

  • your damn right he feels it look at his fucking face

  • you guys like Bill Murray dancing on the background?

  • am i the only one who feels bad for mike, DTB's REAL singer, when susan takes over. yes, on anyday they both sing but there are plenty of times when he either stands there doing nothing or leaves the state entirely.

  • I love watching Susan watch her husband play...that is one couple who can weather any storm and come out smiling. They both have a deep respect for one another and I hope to catch their 50th. anniversary wherever they may be playing.

  • The Allman Bros Band is playing.

  • is he gonna be at crossroads this year? not on the set list

  • @mclrk626 ye with the allman brothers :D
