Hey again, GENERAL1002. Yeah. Agreed. It SUCKS bigtime. I have the answer to "now what?" though. Not gonna stop until The Province gives the Ontario Ombudsman FULL investigative powers into Municipalies and the rest of the MUSH sector.
And if the Ombudsman isn't Andre Marin by then, well, then citizens have to be vigilant about the next Ombudsman.
And that's gonna suck even worse. Can you believe the Province doesn't even require a complaints process for municipalities?
I don't think 49 possible Sauga citizens are enough to make any impact for some Sunshine Law.....That place needs to be absolutely full next time they do this for them to pay attention to us.
Hey again, GENERAL1002, but even if Council were absolutely full "next time", it'd do no good. McCallion is on video record and saying the number of times that the Chamber was full "standing room only" and yet Councillors made their own "decision".
Believe me when I say that one Mississauga millionaire has more clout with Mississauga Mayor and Council than "standing room only" regular Mississaugans Wednesday mornings.
I've just accepted it --resigned simply to documenting it.
I went to a morning meeting on Budget and then Mayor McCallion announced that after lunch they'd come back for this Special Council meeting. I was the only one there --even the Mississauga News had gone.
Like. SURRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPRISE --a meeting to accept $10 million from the Province!! (Got some excuse about it all being so very last minute that there wasn't time to announce it on the website or even through mississauga "alerts" which is their email alert system. What can I say?...
Hi GENERAL1002. I've been documenting Mississauga governance since June 2006 so I have some idea about "tracking".
Certainly it's not possible for citizens to "track that money". And the province (like the Ontario Ombudsman) has no jurisdiction into municipalities. We just have to take their word for it that they're spending our money well.
Just one heads up. Beware of the words "appropriate" and "appropriately" as in "We will take appropriate action to spend money appropriately.
Nice thing about Missouri, you can't call meetings like this, it is illegal. You also MUST allow the public in ALL meetings unless they deal with the hiring, firing, or discipling of an employee. Missouri calls this "The Sunshine Law." A lot of states have one, maybe you should check with your state Attorney General, you might have one too, making this meeting and decisions ILLEGAL!
Well this sucks....now what?
