blender actually isn't that hard to learn adn work with... it only took me a a day or two and i suppose this was solid days of work, but i can do a lot in it and there are a lot of great tutorials!

I use Blender and Maya. I like them both, but I have problems importing my 3D models from Blender into Maya, as I can't get them out of polygon mode. :( I don't know how to texture my models in Maya, so transferring between the two programs is a quite good idea

any card with "accelerator" is good for opengl. If you want to render 3d scene fast you should have efficient CPU, the graphic card do not need to be "top".

any, just to use GSLS shader (MAKE STUFF LOOK PROFESSIONAL NEW AGE GRAPHICS) u need a very recent graphics card. Gforce RECOMMENDED like a 8400

There are a lot of techniques involved. search blender tutorials for rigging and animating on youtube, the blender website is pretty bad for tutorials.

If you want to get really good google blender noob to pro and do every tutorial in order. It will take you from a noob to a pro... fancy that! good luck

I'd say learn by tutorials...just think of something you wanna model it...find tutorials that teach you the ways which you need...and model!

If there's one thing I am sick of, it's people that criticise Blender having never used it properly or just repeating the rubbish their friends have spouted.

I've used 3DSMax and Cinema4D professionally and I now teach using Blender. Why? Because once you get used to the interface (which doesn't take long) it's as feature rich and powerful as the 'commercial' offerings.

And I'm sure that most of the blinkered 3DSMax fan-boys here never even paid for their software.

Yep that's right, I've used 3D Max 2008 and Maya 2008, and I do have to say after learning the interface, you can actually make it sort of favor 3d max windows. Blender is very great quality. The software is only as good as it's artist.

This is no quickie-render, this is GameBlender, the Blender Game engine, not a blender animation xD

Actually, Its a render. Some examples in it are game engine, but they are baked to ipos. The BGE can't handle the particles and shading in this video. Great Video though!

I think that Sketchup models can be exported to .obj or other 3D format, then in blender File-import-then the format, and you can choose the file you want.
