  • if you think that was impressive try using one from crucial.com

  • first comment it 7months:P

  • After looking on newegg and this video,I decided to purchase this SSD for my first build during this week.

  • OMG bad video!

  • I notice you can watch this video in 710p HD quality...

...but why would you want to?

(Drunk cameraman aside, good review guys!)

  • I love CRT monitors! :)

  • Compare to the OCZ Revodrive....

    540/450MB/s

Thats awesome! (and pretty affordable compared to other PCIe drives)

  • i know what's missing here...more screen shaking... :/

  • You said SSD Drives and I laughed. Baha

  • sdfgASKDFHasjkldfaklsjdflkajsdf;k aisdlfh qosd

  • OK, but you should mention that the TRIM command/feature is not available to a SSD RAID configuration. So over time the array's performance will decline RAPIDLY :(

  • @2000jago trim work in raid for me

  • @brokeandbloging ...and then you woke up?

  • @2000jago nope works im ona m17x r2 with two samsung ssd iin stripe

  • @brokeandbloging Google it. TRIM under RAID is only (recently) available to intel boards... others still playing catch-up. Just because you're running RAID with SSD's running "fine" (stripes or otherwise) doesn't automatically mean you have TRIM...

  • @2000jago i ben runing fine for all most 4 month now alienware m17x r nov 5 1010 model so i have trim suport

dell tec conferm i have trim enable

  • @brokeandbloging Did you notice that my original comment was made 5 months ago? Was TRIM available then? - no! So, to repeat myself, since intel made TRIM available on their boards, other manufacturers have been playing catch-up. If you have Samsung PM800 SSD's with your M17x, yes, you are in luck. And far be it from me to argue to with Dell tech support...

My point remains that when this vid was made, it was not available AT ALL, and yes, now - 5 months later it's available elsewhere.

  • The least they could have done was run the footage through image stabilization.... >.>

  • LOL he sounds like keanu reaves at 1:00

  • He's a low level tech. He doesn't know what a tripod is much less how to create a professional looking video. What is wrong with his EARS? He looks like he's using Mr potato head ears.

  • wow, Jeremy sounds like Neo from the matrix :O

  • clock was 1337 :O ;D

  • About 1:21 into the video, you show 4k random read and random write.

A single drive outperforms a RAID-0 in your test. Also, the random write of the single drive is almost twice the quantity as the random read, yet the manufacture spec won't back that up.

    Manufacture lit:

up to 35k IOPS in random 4k reads, up to 6.6k IOPS random write (80GB)

    Your test:

    21MB random 4k reads, 47.5MB random 4k write

which, getting out the calc, comes up as:

    5.127k random 4k reads, 11.597k random 4k writes

  • @for2utube hmmm that stuck out for me also... apparently its the 4k read n writes which windows resposiveness relies on. i wonder why its lower.

  • Intel just released trim support to raid with new Rapidstorage driver

  • @showstopper8011 Do you know if that will work on any mobo?

  • @ImCaptainjackass i was wrong there still isn't trim for raid set up yet

  • Interestingly sata 2 max. 300mb / s and you have 381mb / s. Cool on who else fooled!

  • @MrDaryustree Doh,raid 0 ... they have 2x sata 300 bandwidth availble ... ~ 600, minus overhead.

  • Comment removed

  • Is there any company that allows you to run TRIM whilst running SSD's in Raid 0?

  • @B1aze182: At the present time no. There will be huge improvements for this in the near future, but for now there is no TRIM function with RAID 0.

  • then I will tell You how much 2 velos in raid 0 do it and we'll compare prices as well :)

  • @panflutelistener: I own two VR300s, I guess you can't read. They don't beat the SSD for speed. The only thing you are correct about is the price. That's it! The under 8kb thing is just crap. You see, cost is the not the factor for me. I can afford SSDs, VRs, and Cheetahs. In fact, I have four rigs running right this minute. Unfortunately, only one has an SSD drive. That will change in the near future and you'll be crying about something else by then.

  • lol so can I, I've set up multiple rigs with 9800 GTXs in 2008, GTX 275s in 09, i7s as well as q6600s .

You continue to accuse me of being wrong but you dont even back up your ideas lol or even tell me benchmarks, comparisons, Nothing, like I at least try to tell you.

I guess you're another one that thinks he knows something and doesnt have proof to back it up lol cya

  • @panflutelistener: Pathetic. I'll let you ponder for eternity before I would stoop to your level. You can spout your nonsense and say what you will, but I have proof in my hands and it's eating away at you. Use your Google skills or just watch the plethera of videos. Lastly, I don't have to "back up my ideas" or prove anything to you. Just who do you think you are? You are a waste of air in my opinion. Good luck and now you can have the last comment since this is my last to you.

  • haha you're hilarious, you Keep on avoiding the point =)) it's ok, you already got "punked" literally. Don't even have the ability to back up your ideas and statements, it's fine with me and I don't mean to insult, but if you're gonna claim wisdom and knowledge online by hinting others of being "wrong" be ready to back it up with facts and proof. =) Cya, Ignored.

  • In fact, I've been able to get nearly 200mbps with 2 500gb 7200RPM sata hard drives in raid 0 =) price, 100 dollars (1b of data). SSD's aint worth the price they're currently set at, and Definitely not with so little storage capacity. Specially for someone like myself who has over 500gb of Information that's constantly in use.

  • The solid state drives are simply not worth it lol, Buy 2 cheetahs and you'll get 3 times as much power for the buck.

Also the SSD's are EXTREMELY unreliable when it comes to Data capacity, and that's the Main point of a hard drive, to hold Data.

Guess we must wait a few years when the SSD's are more capable and a Lot cheaper. Cheetahs FTW. Velociraptors are also good.

  • @panflutelistener: Another person who knows little about SSDs.

  • Another person who claims to think SSD's are reliable just cuase seek speeds are a lot faster than HDD's. Please, go buy your 120gb (not even that) 200mbps read 100mpbs SSD for 300 dollars while I buy 2 Velociraptors that read up to 270 and write at 200 with the same Price (and get 300gb). How do I know? Tested them with HD tune myself =)

  • @panflutelistener: like I said, you know nothing. I have two VR 300s in RAID0 on my other rig and they don't even compare to the speed of my Intel 160 SSD. If you even bothered to look at them side by side you wouldn't be spouting nonsense. Face it, even though the price is out of sight at the moment, the speed is better. And reliability is improving daily. I've not had one problem with it.

  • I've not had problems with velociraptors either at All, and I haven't had the chance to own cheetahs, lol post your write and speed benches, better yet use hd tune as well. As I said, SSD's only beat a lot HDD's in average seek times and file searches of under 8kb. Still it's definitely not justified the price and the extremely low storage capacity, you even said the price is out of sight. =) Tell me how fast your windows boots up at with your SSD. How much it cost you.

  • hey brother ? here im looking at getting an x25v 40gig from the egg for 129 as a bootdrive but ned to know if my ep45ud3p will support it

  • haha wow

  • I just got my 2nd Intel X-25 Gen2 80g to give me 2 x drives and thus raid, I just ran the same benchmark, gave me 510 / 168.

    Screaming faaaaaaaaaaast

  • I want to get some of these and raid them, but I'm worried about them not having trim support in raid 0, if i understand it in raid once you delete something it's not really gone, or something like that, and degrades the performance, I just canceled my order till i know more. still not sure what exactly Trim does...

  • @Neomis01

To be honest, I think the whole trim issue with SSD drives, while a concern, has done more to add confusion than anything else. I suggest people get these drives and just enjoy them. And even if there is no support for trim in raid zero, you can always pull them apart and run intels util on them ( each ) to take care of the block issues or whatever it is exactly people are so worried about.

  • Let's review some 160 GB drives next! :D

  • nice side burns

  • I thought the G2 had 34nm flash memory, not 32nm? I know Intel's new CPUs are @ 32nm but Flash @ 34nm?

  • I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure it IS 34 nm. I'm to lazy to look it up though.

  • (So that's why SSD Netbook stocks have vanished)

Hybrid of - Battery backed Ramdrive 64GB DDR + SSD (Raid 0) 240GB + 4TB hardisks - would suit me

  • Too bad the government is giving us old technology. Shame.

At this rate, its going to be a couple more hundred years before we start living in the future.

  • Same with cars, by now, we spouse to drive on cars that needs water, not gas and oil, but again, its all about government... For some reason, they slow things down..

  • Dude, spelling, learn it.

  • Could you please explain the physics behind how you propose to run cars on water?

  • Look up the Hydrogen Fortified Engine here on youtube.

Also if you expect him to explain the "physics" (which are less required than the nuclear reactions of the breaking and joining of bonds) in a youtube comment then you really need to start studying!! lol

  • CAGG labs lol :)

  • nice promo :)) to fabricate a SSD of 80GB cost @ 30$ and on the market it's @ 300-400$ wtf and the life time i hear it's limited. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY IN THIS WORLD and the greatest technologies are secret for us !

  • I though they charged that much because they SSD manufacturers are fighting a war against the hobo menace, am I wrong?

  • Just the nandflash is more than $30, were did you base the $30 on exactly?

  • wow, Ninja Cheerleaders =D

  • Sure you can have a few, wiling to pick up? I'm not shipping them.

  • Poor monitors. ='(

I would like to have them if you don't want them.

  • So the raptor wasn't tested in RAID0 huh? Interesting. What's the point of the test exactly then?

I may be wrong, but to my knowledge, two magnetic drives such as the raptors, yield nearly twice the power of one. (I emphasize 'nearly', its obviously not exact)

I'd love to see a review of two RAID0 raptors against two RAID0 G2's

Anyone know of any reviews like that?

  • at 1:29 look at the first row compared to the 2nd.

Then you will see sequential write and random read are faster on the raptor vs single drive. But look at the random read and write!

  • We can estimate though. If you apply the same performance increase the 2 SSDs saw to the single raptor, 57%, then the Raptor raid would end up at about 200mb/s, 20% slower than a single SSD.

I have a nearly similar setup with a raptor raid 0, I may run this test and see how similar it is to that estimate.

  • What'd be the point? You already know what would be the result.

  • I'm pretty sure you can roughly extrapolate the results of two velociraptor's from just one.

  • Buy a tripod.

  • These reviews are really well done.

    HIRE LOGAN.

  • lol I have two CRTs in the hallway facing the wall

  • What a shame about the low production by Intel...this and the high demand cause prices to go so damn high....

  • You can afford a good SSD. Look up the Corsair SSDs.

  • i cant even afford one.

  • I want one

  • Thanks, guys will purchase me a couple soon

  • WOW! That was an AWESOME Result! 5*

  • I want a newegg polo, and some SSD

  • wow fuck gettin a velociraptor im going ssd from now on :D but when they get full dont they get slower? like really slow?

  • over 300 bucks for 100gb? no thanks I don't need that much speed right now ;)

  • Suppose to come with a trim program, or i believe it is compatible with the w7 trim program,

Trim program will clean out garbage data, so it won't slow down if u use the trim/wiper program.

  • Get a tripod Paul.

    They sell them at newegg

  • LOL

  • ..... thats fast, ya know if you arent using that VelociRaptor anymore, ill gladly take it off your hands.

  • I want me some SSD! :)
