OK, but you should mention that the TRIM command/feature is not available to a SSD RAID configuration. So over time the array's performance will decline RAPIDLY :(
@brokeandbloging Google it. TRIM under RAID is only (recently) available to intel boards... others still playing catch-up. Just because you're running RAID with SSD's running "fine" (stripes or otherwise) doesn't automatically mean you have TRIM...
@brokeandbloging Did you notice that my original comment was made 5 months ago? Was TRIM available then? - no! So, to repeat myself, since intel made TRIM available on their boards, other manufacturers have been playing catch-up. If you have Samsung PM800 SSD's with your M17x, yes, you are in luck. And far be it from me to argue to with Dell tech support...
My point remains that when this vid was made, it was not available AT ALL, and yes, now - 5 months later it's available elsewhere.

About 1:21 into the video, you show 4k random read and random write.
A single drive outperforms a RAID-0 in your test. Also, the random write of the single drive is almost twice the quantity as the random read, yet the manufacture spec won't back that up.
Manufacture lit:
up to 35k IOPS in random 4k reads, up to 6.6k IOPS random write (80GB)
@panflutelistener: I own two VR300s, I guess you can't read. They don't beat the SSD for speed. The only thing you are correct about is the price. That's it! The under 8kb thing is just crap. You see, cost is the not the factor for me. I can afford SSDs, VRs, and Cheetahs. In fact, I have four rigs running right this minute. Unfortunately, only one has an SSD drive. That will change in the near future and you'll be crying about something else by then.
lol so can I, I've set up multiple rigs with 9800 GTXs in 2008, GTX 275s in 09, i7s as well as q6600s .

@panflutelistener: Pathetic. I'll let you ponder for eternity before I would stoop to your level. You can spout your nonsense and say what you will, but I have proof in my hands and it's eating away at you. Use your Google skills or just watch the plethera of videos. Lastly, I don't have to "back up my ideas" or prove anything to you. Just who do you think you are? You are a waste of air in my opinion. Good luck and now you can have the last comment since this is my last to you.
haha you're hilarious, you Keep on avoiding the point =)) it's ok, you already got "punked" literally. In fact, I've been able to get nearly 200mbps with 2 500gb 7200RPM sata hard drives in raid 0 =) price, 100 dollars (1b of data). SSD's aint worth the price they're currently set at, and Definitely not with so little storage capacity. Specially for someone like myself who has over 500gb of Information that's constantly in use.
Another person who claims to think SSD's are reliable just cuase seek speeds are a lot faster than HDD's. Please, go buy your 120gb (not even that) 200mbps read 100mpbs SSD for 300 dollars while I buy 2 Velociraptors that read up to 270 and write at 200 with the same Price (and get 300gb). How do I know? Tested them with HD tune myself =)
@panflutelistener: like I said, you know nothing. I have two VR 300s in RAID0 on my other rig and they don't even compare to the speed of my Intel 160 SSD. If you even bothered to look at them side by side you wouldn't be spouting nonsense. Face it, even though the price is out of sight at the moment, the speed is better. And reliability is improving daily. I've not had one problem with it.
I've not had problems with velociraptors either at All, and I haven't had the chance to own cheetahs, lol post your write and speed benches, better yet use hd tune as well. As I said, SSD's only beat a lot HDD's in average seek times and file searches of under 8kb. Still it's definitely not justified the price and the extremely low storage capacity, you even said the price is out of sight. =) Tell me how fast your windows boots up at with your SSD. How much it cost you.
I want to get some of these and raid them, but I'm worried about them not having trim support in raid 0, if i understand it in raid once you delete something it's not really gone, or something like that, and degrades the performance, I just canceled my order till i know more. still not sure what exactly Trim does...
To be honest, I think the whole trim issue with SSD drives, while a concern, has done more to add confusion than anything else. I suggest people get these drives and just enjoy them. And even if there is no support for trim in raid zero, you can always pull them apart and run intels util on them ( each ) to take care of the block issues or whatever it is exactly people are so worried about.

So the raptor wasn't tested in RAID0 huh? Interesting. What's the point of the test exactly then?
I may be wrong, but to my knowledge, two magnetic drives such as the raptors, yield nearly twice the power of one. (I emphasize 'nearly', its obviously not exact)
I'd love to see a review of two RAID0 raptors against two RAID0 G2's
We can estimate though. If you apply the same performance increase the 2 SSDs saw to the single raptor, 57%, then the Raptor raid would end up at about 200mb/s, 20% slower than a single SSD.
I have a nearly similar setup with a raptor raid 0, I may run this test and see how similar it is to that estimate.

The solid state drives are simply not worth it lol, Buy 2 cheetahs and you'll get 3 times as much power for the buck.
Also the SSD's are EXTREMELY unreliable when it comes to Data capacity, and that's the Main point of a hard drive, to hold Data.
Guess we must wait a few years when the SSD's are more capable and a Lot cheaper. Cheetahs FTW. Velociraptors are also good.
