  • Sadly, as artists and songwriters get old, they lose their creativity.

Looks like Tom didn't get that memo.

  • This is !!great!!! I have to admit that I had never heard of him before, but he sure hits the mark

  • What is the chord progression for this tune? Great song by the way.

  • I'm just waiting for his song about a certain Californian Police Officer and Pepper, That's going to piss Obama off so much.

  • Clever, witty, and frighteningly true

  • What a great person with such great lyrics - always to the point.

  • Thanks Tom. Listen to the "Folkies" You'll hear truth. I for one am glad to see

People like Tom Paxton and Arlo Guthrie singing about what is really going

on in the world today. Instead of all the lies and sound bites you get from

the sold out news and media.

  • freddy mac fannie mae goldman sachs and AIG's CEO obviously watched this to dislike it...

  • (☻Y☻)

  • @horizon123 Is it necessary?

  • gay wad!!

  • @wmdc1230 Calling Tom Paxton a gay wad on a Tom Paxton video? That's a paddlin. Calling Tom Paxton a gay wad anyway? That's a paddlin. Saying Tom Paxton is a horrible singer? Oh you better belive that's a paddlin!

  • I wonder if he ever thought he'd be redoing this song.

  • My name is paxton searched my name found this (☻)__(☻)

  • political compass led me here - liberals unite!

  • I mean, what the F***, who doesn't like this?

  • The more things change.... This used to be "I'm Changing My Name To Chrysler."

  • I am even more over the moon than I was before. you will always be an amazing songwriter.

  • Tunefully on the button.

  • So someone is still paying attention to what's going on? Fantastic!

  • One of the best songs ever!

    Thanks, Tom...

  • thanks Tom! ☺♫ ☼

  • The song seems to lend itself to updates. I originally remember it as "I Am Changing My Name to Chrysler"

  • hey tom amazing voice

  • Why would a fascist write a song mocking fascist policies?

  • got to this after some nostalgia for you were always on my mind-great to see he is still as sharp as ever and so on the case.

  • He is a great ! he keeps fight for rights and against war . Good music and strong lyrics ! Greeting from France

  • Thanks, Tom! Loving it!

  • thank you !

  • I've known Tom, off and on, for many years, even worked a show or two with him, and we've had our share of good conversations. What you see with him on stage is exactly what you see off stage. He's one of the truly great performers who is actually real, and comfortable enough to show that to anybody willing to see it. A treasure, indeed!

  • Great Tom! Thanks

  • he's still cool

  • Give him the 'Seven hundred million grand' 'cause HE, IS worth it!! A living treasure.

  • we were hardly up and walking before money started talking.

  • We saw Tom Paxton at The Palace Theatre in Mansfield in the early eighties. He was brilliant, topical and funny then and stil is today.

  • My father said "He restores my faith in the American people" When Tom came here in 1986

  • VERY GOOD!

  • Thank the stars we have Tom Paxton.

  • GREAT SONG Tom! What an inspiration to watch you sing this, especially from someone like me that loves writing lyrics - THIS IS FABULOUS!!!!!

  • You still sound great Tom, I enjoyed this song and your performance very much. It's good to hear you still doing topical song like this. Mark

  • LETS nOt fOrget the One that cOntrOls them ALL ...

hOw bOut making an interesting Song bout QUEEN ...

  • WHEN we ALL put THEM behind bars, let them eat it!

    And nothing else...

  • Fabulous!!!

  • Can somone please explain the names 'Fannie Mae' 'Freddy Mac', I live in the UK. Thanks !!

  • he Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) (OTCBB: FNMA), commonly known as Fannie Mae, was set up as a stockholder-owned corporation chartered by Congress in 1968 as a government-sponsored enterprise (GSE), but founded in 1938 during the Great Depression. cont...

  • The corporation's purpose is to expand the secondary mortgage market by securitizing mortgages in the form of mortgage-backed securities (MBS),[3] allowing lenders to reinvest their assets into more lending and in effect increasing the number of lenders in the mortgage market by reducing the reliance on thrifts

  • Can somone please explain the names 'Fannie Mae' 'Freddy Mac', I live in the UK. Thanks !!

  • @jazzmanpete Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (like AIG) are the names of big Banking organisations in the U.S. that when the banking crash happened got bailed out by the U.S. government. A truly ridiculous amount was given to them. So of course Tom said "changing my name to Fannie Mae" means he'll get his bailout too.

  • Great and Funny

  • Det er dælme nåe mæ nåe nåe å nåe, wåå

  • Thank you for this, but I find it sad that the same song - albeit lyrically updated - is just as relevant today as it was thirty years ago. Its almost heartbreaking.

    Actually, it IS heartbreaking.

Not only is it a brilliant song, its proving to be timeless.

  • damn, tom! you're still the best! thanks for the music!

  • @AnotherWob Great to hear something conemporary! The Sub - prime dollar market gets me down!

  • Probably not a tune you would ever hear on the NBC Nightly News (owned by G.E.). Wait until the Washington crooks get really desperate, then we will see some real nasty business.

I first became aware of Tom while a Progressive Rock DJ in the late 1960s when I played "Singing the Viet Nam Potluck Blues" among others. Thanks for posting, Gere

  • Tom, you still have it!!! Brilliant, as always!

  • Surely both conservatives and liberals can tap their toes to this.

  • Very funny indeed!

  • Still the greatest!

  • Brilliant!

  • Awesome, Tom! I was thinking someone should update this song and I am so glad it's you. Thanks for posting this and I will be sure to pass it on.

  • God Bless you Mr. Paxton. You're a true libertarian musician.

  • Thanks, Pax. We need you back at Quiet Valley Ranch.

  • Love it.

  • I have followed Tom since 1968. Still sounds fantastic -----♪♫ ♥

  • If every American was like Tom Paxton we'd be living in paradise.

  • This is amazing. That's all I can say. Absolutely amazing.

  • You're my favourite songwriter of all time Tom Paxton. Keep churning out the goods. Ramblin' Boy is about my favourite song.

  • Don't feel bad about it, Tom. They get all the money but you get all the love. History has a different fate in mind for you than it does for them, you can be sure. (Sorry you can't take that to the bank...)

  • Awesome tom..I love this

  • This is awesome!

Ron Paul 2012 end the madness!

  • ME, too!Right on, bro!!! Has Obama seen this?

  • ...great to see you Tom...

    !..

  • Loves me my Tom. Now to go buy a gun.

  • Hi,

I am looking for the Kennelration dogfood song? My dog is bigger than your dog....

    Anyone got it?

  • My name is also Tom Paxton, you know- it is an honor!

  • Thank you Tom!

Health and a wealth of happiness...

    John Grogan Canadian Rockies

  • Good on ye, Tom - sounds like a plan

  • this is fantastic!!!

  • Happy 72nd birthday, Tom. Thanks for the memories.

  • Originally written as "I'm changing my name to Chrystler...I will tell the finance broker, What you did for Iaccoca would be perfectly acceptable to me!" I see Tom is staying timely! I laughed like crazy when I saw him perform the first version at the time... He is such a gift!

  • Brilliant !!!

  • Tom, Tom get a new hat. I for one will still pick you out in a crowd.

  • This is great--Tom is still on his game.

  • Just getting to appreciate this generation of wisdom...Tom, Arlo, Pete, Bob, thank you and your message is still relevent 50 years after you started with your remarkable talents. Thank you muchly

  • this dude is the bomb and is never left behind

  • This guy just gets better..just brilliant..been a fan of Tom's for a couple of decades..and more...thanks for putting this up here..thanks Tom love you.

  • I'm lovin' this!!!

  • I've heard Tom sing "Chrysler" many times. It's fun to hear an update!

  • Brilliant to find Tom Paxton here. Fantastic song.

  • I loved it as much as when it was "I am Changing My Name to Chrysler".

    Alas, it is equally apropos.

  • My God, Tom still sounds great, and he's doing topical songs. Pete's sang in the inauguration. Too bad Phil wasn't able to last it out.

Tom's voice hasn't lost much at all.

  • ComradeVodka = instant paxton fan

  • Loved it! But then like Renee I've loved Tom's music for a very long time. "Ramblin' Boy" was one of the first songs I ever learned, with my Sears and Roebuck $25,.00 guitar in 1965. He's still got the magic!

  • Thank you, Tom Paxton!!! From a LONG time fan!! :-)

  • ha ha I completely agree love this video!!

  • anyone know what the chords for the song are?

  • I've scoured the 'net looking for them. Try "Changing my Name to Chrysler" (written in the '70s, this is an update) or buy a fake book that contains it. The music industry has been cracking down on tablature the same way they did on downloading songs.

  • This truth really hurts! God help us!

  • Always a great song. Surely time to record it again and release it as a single. Go for it, Tom.

  • Watch out! Goldman Sachs will gut you and your stimulus too.

  • Awesome!

  • Wow! That gave me a pleasant surprise!

  • cool song and youregood to plsy guitar!

    just like my dad

  • get in their....still goin didnt even know u saw still alive... ledgend

  • I really wish Phil was still around, he is a hero of mine. I really enjoy Tom though hes got a quick wit and writes wonderful music.

  • To say nothing of the BIG BONUSES!

  • It's crazy to hear the original first and then realize that you're STILL AROUND, able to change it to the times.

Makes me wish Phil was still around. :(

  • Aint that news!! to me? Your voice is heard all over this world Tom, Keep them comming.

  • thanks tom!

  • Tom, you are a hero to me. Keep up the good work.

  • Yay for Tom Paxton! He is one of my favorite folk singers of all-time. Our local (liberal) representative sent a link to this video to all her constituents! :>

  • Bad economy? Think again. That was soured by the Democrats and their Fannie Mae friends who insisted on giving loans to poor people who would never be able to pay back their loans. Republicans have some of the blame, but don't blame the Republicans entirely for this one. The Democrats are mostly to blame, including your Senate pals Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer, Chris Dodd, and Barack Obama (and others) who put America in this problem. They all kissed the ass of Fannie Mae lobbyists for years.

  • just an observation from an outsider... but the dems may have started the ball rolling (there will be blame-throwing and buck-passing on that one for decades, I'm sure), but did the republicans do anything in the last 8 years to *stop* it?

  • I hate to get involved in a private matter but from the other side of the ocean it seems that the rich who voted Bush got all they deserved. I feel sorry for the "little people" in the good old US of A and how it's dragged down the rest of us. Truly America sneezes and the whole world catches a cold. Maybe Obama has too heavy a burden to carry in the form of the unrealistic hopes and expectations BUT at least you now have a leader who can inspire rather than the grubby little man you had before.

  • !!!!!!!!! Still Got It !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a great song! I want mine too!

  • Great to see one of my folksinger heroes has his own YouTube channel. A great song from a great writer and performer.

Thanks to Stewball for sending me here.

  • Hi

    Tom...

Now you have me thinking about your brilliant "I'm Changing My Name to Chrystler". I just love your modification here, for it demonstrates the folk song process as it pertains to the concerns of the day.

You've inspired me to spread this call into action...you've really hit the mark on this one!

    Pax,

    Max (Stewball)

  • What a treat it is to find you on youtube - your ascerbic wit and inate ability to just hit the spot running is a joy!! May you continue doing what you do best - chillingly astute observations coupled with truly memorable tunes!! Live long and happy

    warm regards

    eddie

  • Tom Paxton is a force of nature. I'm amazed. He just doesn't stop and he just gets better and better. Wow.

  • Some things never change...

  • Capitalism isn't working! Time for a real change. The lessons from the 1930s is that we need mass movements to push government into protecting jobs and welfare. Don't wait for Obama...

  • I love it, both versions are good, being an Aussie the names still do not mean that much , perhaps tom could do an Aussie version. Talking about Aussie versions I would love an Aussie version of "This land is Your land"

  • What a thrill to see you've joined us here on YouTube. I first saw you do the Chrysler version of this song on PBS in the early 80's and have carried the tune in my head ever since. Well, I WORK for Chrysler now, (Toledo Jeep plant), and times with the company are on the downturn again. Do you think you could give us a modern Chrysler version? I would think there would be plenty of inspiration considering the amount of mis-management involved. God bless you for the music you've given us, Tom.

  • The more thing change, well you know the rest. Good thing there are people like Tom and Arlo to keep the rest of us from going crazy.

    Thanks.

  • Arlo's "I'm Changing My Name To Fannie Mae" is good too, but I think this one flows a little better.
