It really portrays the Western feel. Being an aussie boy I liken it strongly to that notion of heading out of town, away from the big smoke and towards more outback locations with real characters who do challenge you and frighten you. They continue to live just by getting by - yet that makes the rest of us strangely nervous.
Oh shit, Jumbo's Clown room...that is where No.1 Sleazeball/BlackWidow Courtney Love used to dance...I grew up in H-wood so I know all of these L.A. shots...Is that pic of the bar interior(2:48) Boardner's on cherokee?
OMG I was so lucky because I got to meet Stan Ridgeway one month ago! Yeah it was so crazy because I got to go backstage with my friend and we actually went in to the band's dressing room and we chatted with Stan right before he went on stage! HAHAHA what a legend and I got a picture of him between my friend and me..... He played this song that night and it was brilliant! What a very nice man!
Sometimes the only thing a western savage understands are whiskey, rifles & and an unarmed man like you. So you gotta keep on movin'. Don't let that fancy paint job fool you.
Yes A damn good Album. I have both the Album and the CD. I have collected as much of the Wall of Voodoo as I could and even have some Stan Ridgeway stuff. And good stuff it is.
i couldnt have done it better, nice job, seckles, i was right with you in 1985, i was 19 , and headed west back when michael jakson was king of pop, i was listing to stuff like this, and noone understood.
"Son, this ain't no western movie matinee. You're a long way off from Yippee-Yi-Yay". Who else but Stan Ridgway could write that?
This song was the soundtrack to half of my life. (Some days I still listen to it 5 times in a row.) When I was 20 years old, I moved out to Los Angeles by myself. I'd never been there, I didn't know a soul out there, but I felt like a kid in a candy store (at least for a little while).
The original sound of the wild west

The whole "Call Of The West" album is more or less a pulp fiction novel set to music. This album ranks as one of my all-time faves.

I love this album - Mecican Radio is my least favorite on the whole thing. I listen to it everytime I ride out in the desert or 4 corners area.

Love it. This is the essential Wall of Voodoo "sound" if you ask me. Nice job on the vid, you captured so much of the feel.
