Well in 47' the Mercede's factory were piles of rubble, it took them three years to rebuild their factories and get going again, great to see Caraciola's last victory in the rain, Der Regenmeister!!!!!
Duke Nalon qualified one of the '39 three-liter Mercs third fastest at Indy in '47; Chet Miller qualifed the same car fifth fastest a year later. Both tries ended with mechanical failures at lap 119 and 108, respectively. There was no support whatsoever from the factory. No manuals. No diagrams. Nada. & all the labels were in German.
