Then over half of those officers surveyed are wrong. It shouldn't be done willy-nilly. But there are instances when torture (or at least "aggressive interrogation methods") IS called for. (1) to save lives of troops when it is very likely a person knows about a pending attack on our forces & won't give up the info willingly. And (2) when an individual likely knows about a pending attack on our civilians or personnel at home or abroad. Especially when said persons in both cases are hostile.

We didn't become the "land of the free" by being the "Good Guys" you mention. Bombs got dropped on Japan who was attacking us daily, air stikes on terroreists while they were hiding behind innocent bystanders, defending the poor contries and the list goes on.
