Oh my goodness... This is what Alice in Chains was at it's best. I think Layne was in rehab earlier that year and he looks great and sounds amazing here. Five years later he was sinking, another five years and he was gone. Missed forever.
Nirvana also helped me a lot to stay away from drugs their pain is wat makes me wanna live life an continue writing music keepin their legends alive an keepin ppl clean
Jus think drugs an addiction end up leading u straight to the grave an no matter wat u think u mean somethin to someone somwhere so jus take these words to heart any recovering addict hope my comment helps who ever
All alice in chains songs helped me stay away from drugs an stoped me from being curiouse to wat it was like all u have to do to know wat its like is read up on laynes final years an how bad of shape he was in he had lost a couple fingers from veins callapsing an all these drugs he was using to stay high so he never would feel dope sick an deal with issues jus stay away from drugs an life is so much bttr i hav never done drugs but i can write a realy good song about wat ive seen drugs do to ppl
Layne on his worst most strung out day is miles beyond singers today on their best day. Layne's distinct ability and charisma are so amazing, IMO hes the greatest rock vocalist of the 90s
RIKI RATCHMAN is the BIGGEST fuckin poser ever. What a douche bag, even on headbangers ball when he interviewed Layne and Jerry he seemd like a dick. R.I.P. Layne, BEST vocalist EVER. Amazing perforamnce from the best band out of seattle. IMO the best era of music
wish i could have experienced grunge/and PanterA(my favorite band) but i was born in the mid 90s so i dont even remember any of these guys i started cranking old music on my stereo a couple years ago and just love it.
Whoever did that mixing iss awesome !!!!Cause the Bass is perfect, the Drums cymbals and bass drum too and the voice...you know...it's Layne he don't need a mix.
@Bbm7b9 Seriously, the vast majority of live music on TV is mixed like crap (Late Night show, specials, etc) but this is downright releasable - I've seen these tracks on bootlegs as they're so well-mixed.
Im right in the middle of going through withdrawals and im layin in my bed rockin the fuck out to this....for some reason I've chosed to quit dope now and AIC is all i can listen to.....Right on Layne...GET ME THROUGH THIS!!!!!!! YAAAAAA.
oh man..been there done that...not that you care or anything but I can relate to you man. Hang in there brother it does get better...I don't know if this is the best song selection for detoxing...but I've noticed that down in a hole, angry chair and dirt really helped me through it. Also if your interested look up Temple of the Dog-Times of trouble. That song really helped me fight my addiction. GL man...
@brandonspade i appreciate the knd words man. it's a hell of a thing to go through but ive made it so far and im not about to look back. Thanks again.
@coonscrib how could u listen to this while trying to quit, this happens to be one of there few that glorifies it. He doesnt go broke and he does it alot lol i listen to this when im about to score like rite now, when i go threw quitting i cant hear this song or the real thing
@myPAINisSELFchosen85 i I can listen to this AND Real Thing lol. I have my facelift album in my car cd player right now. There's something about all they're music that has helped me get through this. BTW....I'm through my shit withdrawals and back to work at this point. RI|GHT ON! Weather it's this, or Frogs or Down in a Hole, Nutshell as long as it's Layne man.
@coonscrib im glad you got threw it brother, i just smoked heroin in my car they got told by my ex that she is changing her number and that i cant see my son till i quit. God what a worthless fuckup i am
But that's part of what made Layne beautiful, the fact that he wasn't stuck on himself like so many "rockstars". Being stuck on the drugs wasn't good for him either though, obviously.
@brandonspade Yeah seriously dude, when I first watched this video, I was at the part where he was singing "buy", and it sounded like his voice was giving out so I was like awww man.. still sick tho.. but when he did that YEAHHHH!!!! right after, I almost cried it was amazing..
alice in chains were heavier in the 90ties fuck i was not old to see them at this time. im a new fan but i wish i could see layne live. that was awesome.
@Wesson4 I know what you mean, I would never see this version in concert but it is Jerry's band and he wrote at least half of the songs. No one can replace Layne but dudes gotta make a living.
@Wesson4 i did not like the new guy- at first. BUT i did go and see them a few times and while he is not Layne (no one will ever be) its not bad... im just saying
@Wesson4 its definitely not jerrys fault about layne and he has every right to be aic if he wants he was the driving force behind it and even though layne was the voice of the generation you cant forget jerry wrote and composed 90% of aic's music
@shenderson420 And you can't forget that Layne came up with the name, wrote 50 percent of the bands lyrics to those songs. And was the one who really gave Jerry his start at a career by letting him live with him and introducing him to Mike and Sean,
I'd say Layne played his part, and without him AIC would not exsist. People need to realize that.
@Wesson4 Some of us do realize that. A lot of us! Jerry still has the right to mive on with Mike and Sean. They're still good. Fuck pop, rap, and emo without Layne they are still 100X better. Jerry wrote lyrics and Layne wrote lyrics. All the members should be treated equal because they all contribute. Jerry introduced Layne to Mike and Sean, which at the time it was called Diamond Lie. Before that Layne made the name of Alice N' Chains. Layne gave Jerry a place to stay and provided instruments
god i just heard junkhead for the first time and now i cant stop listening to it. thats why i love aic they know how to write such amazing songs i cant stop listening to them!
I think some people want to discredit Layne to make the new AIC seem like the old or better, but there are different songqriters and vocals. There are many vocalist after Staley that imitated his sound (e.g. Godsmack) Im not saying they should stop playing, they should keep going and experiment with new sounds, its just Layne and Jerry were the founding members of AIC and contributed equally. If not wouldnt Layne have been forced to leave the band as Mike Starr was due to the drug problem.
@accatt2204 mike starr said on celebrity rehab that he was forced out of the band because of rumours that he was having an affair with jerry's girlfriend
Im sorry Jerry wrote alot, FAR from everything. Layne wrote Man in The Box and Jerry wrote Rooster about his dad. What about Angry Chair, or Again, Died, Swing on This, Godsmack, The Mad Season project, or Get Born Again? Thats where Layne said he wrote it about religious hypocracy. They evenly split it 50/50, and Layne painted more than 30 something art pieces including the cover of the Mad Season album.
@mike78ification no he didnt.. both layne and jerrys name are on the credits. all you have to do is read... its obviously not just a song if you even pay attention to over half the dirt album
Junkhead is one of my favorite AIC songs ever. But listening to it now, almost 20 years later I can only shake my head at the tragic lyrics. They reflect an entire generations attitude- druggies are somehow trancended beings- Bullshit justification for being an addict. The appropriate response to junkhead is the very next song- would? "So I made a big mistake..." Thats right BIG! Cost you your life and America a great artist. Cost me 5 friends (RIP)
@trocker4evr you do realize in the song he isnt advicating it right...? hes showing your average junkies perspective... saying that drugs arent bad at all ... when clearly they are and the bart where he says "your lives empty and bare" that hes showing how twisted a druggies brain is... just read his final interview and his later lyrics and youll see he did not like drugs... he did them because he was dependent.
Well dude I don't know. You may be right. I don't doubt you if you say he said he didnt like drugs in his final interview. He would come to the realization he was addicted. But I've heard and seen it before, and those lyrics represent the thinking of that time. Perry Ferrel would brag about his drug use, vedder talked about psychotropics opening him up to the riddles of life. I wouldnt doubt layne believed those words when he wrote them just as much as he found them ironic and tragic in the end
isnt it sad that the thought of this being on the MTv that i know these days is absolutey ludacris. must have been cool to turn on the tv and find good bands and cool music!! i FUCKING hate the music industry of today, it makes me sick that good music isnt recognised!!!! >:(
You're wrong. Find the interview where Layne himself said he had never created anything while in that state of mind. He wasn't proud of his usage of the drug.
yeah, y do good musicians die early, just like good people die young. now we have to battle the sound of the new shtfull generation, the fallout boys !
@fuked86 because their talent can only be in this world for a certain amount of time because if they live forever they will change this world....forever!
god what a fucking waste this world is coming to or should i say has been for a while now. but youre on the computer with all of the fucking keys in front of your goddamn face and you cant type out whole words. i dont give a damn if it isnt proper english but come on son of a bitch thats the proof that the laziness is increasing at a rapid rate
