I think a lot of psychobilly bands base their music off the topic of horror, subcultural girls, violence, and sexuality. although it seems to me that Tiger Army has a different way of playing psychobilly. i think the only qualification of being psychobilly is having a double bass. and plus tiger army is third wave, after all psychobilly began in britain.
Yes, and no. Generally psychobilly bands sing about horror, a lot of them dont take themselves seriously and sing about kinky weird stuff. Its very broad as far as genre's go. You have one end of the spectrum w/ bands like The Sharks, Frantic Flintstones, The Meteors, and Frenzy that are more "mellow" and at the opposite end have bands like Tiger Army, Black Rose Phantoms, Mad Sin, Nekromantix, os catalepticos that are harder, faster and deal with mostly serious and dark topics.
@DocHelliday I like Tiger Army but I dont really consider them "psychobilly" .... Psycho to me is Rev, Demented to Go shit like that hence the name PSyCHO.. Horror , demented and sick shit..
@217zenki, Rev doesnt sing about horror. Tiger Army's new stuff isn't very horror, but if you think Temptation isn't about slicing up an Ex-lover you'd be wrong. Their 1st CD is filled with horror stuff and so is the 2nd. The 3rd and 4th become more nuanced... but its there if you look. Its not all like "hot rod zombies banging betty pages ghosts in a chicky run after a switchblade fight." but its still there. Think Hitchcock as opposed to Romero
@DocHelliday No rev doesnt really but he is a oddball to begin with . I still dont consider Ta currently psycho... I like them dont get me wrong.. But I think there more jus floating out there in there own realm right now..
@sully676 Generally speaking rockabilly is like hillbilly/country mixed with rock n' roll. Got a very twangy sound a la Duane Eddy. Psychobilly came later and has its influence rooted not only in the rockabilly genre but also in punk. It's much faster and louder than rockabilly. I disagree that each sing about different things because if you take a song like "Endless Sleep" which is rockabilly one could easily make an argument that that was the early days of horror rock.
Slayer should do a cover of this!!!!

huge difference.
compare this to Elvis' "Thats Alright Mama" or Buddy Holly's "Rock Around With Ollie Vee"
