hahaha...well, it was written in a comical fashion if you listen to the overall scene leading up to that line...Peggy was teasing the two about Ben's "old-fashioned" ways and Ben was being cute with his remark. You also have to remember, his wife was fooling around with Bill Bauer...and Ben had suspicions that something was going on so he was always edgy.
in these scenes, Ben Scott reminds me of Chris Bernau's later portrayal of Alan Spaulding...the walk, the look...the mannerisms.
