kettlebells are amazing. this guy most def knows what he's talking about. everyone always remember that less leverage means more strength. practicing dead weight lifts is important. try these lifts from the ground with a heavy bell like 28kg+. position the bell handle even with your heels, and just rip that son of gun up. remember straight arms at the top of the snatch...LOCK THE JOINTS PLEASE!
I'm a kettle apprentice only, but I can tell you that the diference between kettlebells and dumbells for a given exercise lies in the center of gravity. it wouldn't be the same if you used a dumbell because the momentum wouldn't carry out the same way
technically you could but the shape and desighn of the kettlebell is more practical, it doesnt stick out on both sides but many of the excorsizes couldnt be done well with a dumb bell because the ends will be in the way of the handle when you swing it around and grab it.
@TRUTHNTRUSTFIYAFLY You can if u don't have KBs, but its always better to use KBs. Use what you have. The only thing you need to get in a good workout is the will to suffer.
@TRUTHNTRUSTFIYAFLY no, dumbells are different to kettlebells, for starters dumbells are symmetrical whereas kb arent which means that more stabalizing muscles are firing and trains your body to work as a whole unit,.
You CAN use them, but it is not recommended. I used them until I could afford my own kettlebell. So, yeah, it works with dumbells too, but kettlebells are a whole lot different thing
Would i get the same effect if i use Dumbells as oppose to the kettlebell? and if not what results will i get with the dumbell, as i do not own a kettlebell at the moment ??
I'm an avid MMA practitioner - thank you for this great video. Question: what's the differnce/advantage of this long cycle clean&jerk (where you bend your elbow) versus the standard clean & jerk ???
I guess its the other way I've learned it...where you clean the kettlebell straight up as opposed to the method you demostrate where you bend you elbow and swing the kettlebell between your legs
You're talking about the "Hardstyle" promoted by Pavel Tsatsouline. Two different purposes: Hardstyle is for power-cardio; fluid-style is for strength-endurance. Two different tools.
Why don't more MMA fighters do the olympic lifts and full back and front squats? To me. these would be the most beneficial weight room exercises for a fighter.
How many fighters have you trained? Some ppl employ the basic PL and OLY lifts, but only at the beginning phase of training. As training becomes more periodized toward peaking for a fight, conditioning must become more specific to the demands of fighting. Something that the Circular Strength Training System specializes in.
This kind of training is more for improving functional movement strength and not focused on developing individual body parts. It's like the difference between body building and training for sports.
Very nice video and informative. Thank you for it. I have a question, you think if I use medicine ball with handle will be the same as using kettllebell when doing the workout you are showing in this video?
Honestly, the one you will use more. The body doesn't know the difference between the causes of resistance. It only knows tension. That's why people love the clubbell for example, because it's fun, because they have so much variety in its use so they never get bored, so they keep using it.
Excellent video. You didn't talk about how long (how many repetitions) one should do this exercise? You did talk about economic technique, which leads to my actual question: why don't you lock your knees when the kettlebell is between your legs, in the "back" position? Is it just optional or do you have a reason for it? Thanks for the great vid and excellent explanation. Greets from Finland.
sonnon is a fitness god........i have been studying flowfit, bodyflow, intuflow, ageless mobility, kettlebell foundation, and clubbelll circular strength dvd's for a couple months and they have changed my views on fitness.....i still like olympic weightlifting but this has opened my mind to a whole new world.
Don't purchase cheap bells. The cheap ones really suck, as there is no standard of handle circumference or how the handle is connected to the bell (could be welded, which is not good). Dragondoor has some of the best, and going with the sport bells (look up AKC) is a good bet. The latest Lifeline USA bells aren't too bad, but their older bells were apparently welded, and I ended up with a pair (handles are also slightly ridged which tears up your hands, sand em down if needed).
One of the best technique vids I have found. I'm a beginner. Is it OK to lock out your elbows in the jerk - that's what he is teaching here isn't it? I guess no choice if you want to hold up that weight or is there?
brilliant stuff. The free stuff that Scott sonnon has put out on u tube has convinced me too get his stuff with my next paycheck. Marketing genius.:-p
Very articulate teaching instructions and incredibly smooth & flowing, exactly how a fighter should be or anyone for that matter. You make it look too easy.
Coach thanks for sharing your insights on Kettlebell training. Your instruction is definitely very different than what is being taught at Equinox Health Clubs in NYC.
Yeah, very different. However, the Equinox trainers are being taught Hard Style, whereas this is GS, two very different forms. The Nox employees also learn a limited amount intended to be integrated into their training plan, so most are not strict 'kettlebell trainers' although there are a few who are very proficient. I do give Equinox credit for even having kettlebells, most chain gyms don't. Great video.
I'm looking to buy one affordable kettlebell to practice with at home. Any suggestion guys?

Never do that. If dumbells would be the same, they would have never invented kettlebells. You can never do the same exercises with a dumbell.
