  • Nothing humble about SWL. What matters is that you have the interest. Please let me extend to you an invitation to join us on the Amateur Bands. I'm sure you would fit right in. I can assure you that you will have a great time and meet some outstanding people. 73s

  • Very nice job demonstrating this transmitter. I'm just a humble shortwave listener, so this was particularly informative to me.

  • Can't wait for you to cover the proper adjustment of the audio control/clipper adjustment!

  • @uploadJ Thanks for the comment. Funny you should ask...I'm about half way through a vid covering the audio.

    Couple of weeks, perhaps.

  • My first general class rig back in 1969. As I recall, it had these great mercury vapor tubes. That in addition to 11 meters coverage. LOL.

  • Any comment on one of the 'mods' on the internet that basically removes the clipping circuit entirely?

Come to find out, that very same limiter circuit with the 6AL5 dual-diode tube (and the LC low-pass filter following it) was used by Collins in the Collins "KW-1" 1,000 Watt AM transmitter's audio amplifier to control peak (maximum) modulation level and also in the RCA Radiomarine line of gear ...

    BTW, good video. 73

  • Whew! This brings back memories! I used this transmitter back in the mid sixties, for CW only. I'm amazed that these are still in operation! This was a great rig, really got out. The main problem I recall was that the mercury vapor rectifier tubes would go bad and generate a lot of RF noise in the receiver.

Thanks for the comment and for viewing the clip. Yes, they are still in use and, in fact, the Valiant and Ranger both fetch more than three to four times their selling price on the market.

AM is seeing a resurgence of late and one may hear conversations on that mode almost anytime of the day.

We need to twist your arm and get you back into Ham radio where you belong.....Hi
