What used to bug me as a kid (and I've just discovered still does) was the scale of the ball thing bouncing about in the opening sequence... Its clearly much larger before it starts going around the circular bit in TV centre. Sorry :)
Saturday mornings have never been the same since things like this left the air. I am 23 and loved watching this, one reason I got up early on Saturday mornings. Loved the intro. Remember the rugrats were shown on this and Sage and Onion those two Irish Leprechauns were on it too. BBC has gone way down hill with children's TV since the turn of the 21st century. Kids today don't know what they are missing.
@r4h4al Think some of us should petition the BBC for a new nostalga channel and bring back this and all other old favourites...Poddington Peas, Bananaman etc....Show kids today what REAL childrens tv should be like
Not a whole lot on for kids on saturday mournings these days...aside from Wolverine and the X-Men and a couple of human interest shows. No big magazine format show like Live'N'Kicking to sandwich them all into though, a shame. CBBC should quit being so lazy
Ahhhh - thundering down the stairs, wrapped in a duvet, getting a massive bowl of START cereal and sinking into the chair to watch The Raccoons and Live & Kicking. Someone invent a time machine, I want to go back!
i remember used to wake up on a saturday morning, raccoons, sweet valley high and live and kicking, which then turned in to dig it ( i think that was the title) fearne cotton was in it, followed by sm:tv and cd:uk :( kids have nothing today, unless you have sky or cable and even then its rubbish
Loved watching this as a kid i was about 7/8. When you woke up on the mornings and they wasnt school. Used to love the presenters, 90's was the best decade for kids, all those kids shows it was kinda amazing really. Now theys absolute shit all really.
One thing I'm not sure about is during the Trevor and Simon bit is if the lorry in the background flashing his lights and beeping his horn is actually part of the skit, or someone they were holding up! The reaction of Trev & Simon and the presenters makes me think it's the latter!
CBBC is in need of a serious revamp, and bring back some of it's past to go forward again. Like previous posts have mentioned, Saturday morning tv for children nowadays is terrible. What it needs is a live tv show like (Live&Kicking/ Saturday Show) from 9am-11:30am with music performances/ studio games and a large live audience. Before 9am, good classic cartoons like the racoons, tom & jerry would be great.
What do kids watch today? I've just looked at the schedules and at 11am Sat morning there's some cookery programme with James Martin - wow cookery, just what every nine-year-old wants to watch.
What the fuck has happened to the BBC, they're supposed to be a public service broadcaster?!
The Winter equivalent of Live and Kicking is TMi but these Saturday Morning shows are now on BBC2 and TMi is only on for 12 weeks tops where as the days of Live and Kicking was on for about 30 weeks.
I miss em too, ITV hasn't really done anything for kids saturday morning tv since ministry of mayhem finished. And BBC just don't sem to really care anymore (Dick n Dom axed and replaced by the fail that was TMI which is now dead i belive)
@morgman43 Well, seeing as CBBC has always ended at 11am on a Saturday morning, there's no need to get in a huff. TMi has been the current Saturday morning show (and it is hilarious, honestly) since 2006 and usually runs from September - January, although it is moving to Fridays this year so there may well be a new Saturday morning show.
@thepod96 I have watched TMI and I do think it's reasonably funny, and I love Sam and Mark. However it's a small, tight studio with no audience, and is a different kind of show to a typical saturday morning show such as l&k / SMTV Live/ Saturday Show/ Ministry of Mayhem. This is the kind of show cbbc need to reintroduce, with a large studio, big audience, music performances and fun games.
@pgl0897 Some cannot receive digital TV yet. Also the quality of dedicated channels is rarely that of specialist programming on 'the main channels'...
@morgman43 Everyone can receive BBC2 just as they can receive BBC1. And most people now have digital anyway and analogue is going, so everyone will have access to the channels where the BBC's children's offerings are located.
They are serving the public. unfortunately, they do get criticised because everyone has different opinions and wants different things from them. they try their best to do this almost impossible task. There was a majority of people who wanted cookery programmes on BBC1.
@morgman43 Have to say if they put cookery shows on at that time when Live & Kicking was meant to be on my parents would know about it all weekend! I sometimes feel for kids these days!
Dang, this was right before Spider-Man was due to start airing, and just before Barrowman moved on to pastures...erm...obscure, 'till a welshman gave him the iconic role of Captain Jack Harkness
yer 'Racoons' I'd forgotten about that, god I miss live and kicking! I used to watch it religiously, I never missed the new adventures of superman and them 2 little Leprachaun puppets that introduced it! Funny thing is I can sort of remember most of the presenters even Philip Schofield but I can't remember John Barrowman, I mean I can't ever remember there ever being an American presenter, that's terrible you'd think he'd be difficult to forget!lol!
No idea if you watched the One with Katy Hill, Sarah Cawood, Otis and Trey, but if you did: did they ever do like a bungee jump at the end or was that me thinking they did?
I remember watching this with my two older sisters
