He and Carmen's ranks seem to jump around a bunch during the series: it's possible the writers forgot what they were supposed to be and kept changing it back and such.

Another explanation is that Zander's arrogance and Carmen's frequent outspeaking against her superiors cause their ranks to drop a few times.

Lizard Line refers to the repel lines the MI uses. By connecting the squad members with the lines it gives the team a way to pull up anyone that slips while moving across the unstable bridge. The lines would of course need to be disconnected when they reached the truck to give them the freedom of movement to move the truck and cover the area,

Unfortunately military intelligence is only as good as it's intelligence-gathering methods.

Gathering information on an enemy that doesn't speak, doesn't betray it's side, and has only one reaction to human presence (that reaction being hostile attack) is very difficult.

It's possible he's under a lot of pressure, simply because nobody else can gather anything significant on the Bugs, and their lack of intel on them is something that's a constant in the show's progression.

It is probably because the CGI animators where testing out different stuff. In the beginning you could see the bullets like in slomo and after that you couldn't see the bullets nor see the bugs taking hits(they just fall down). So this is probably the final stage of shooting.

if you read the halo book series, the drops are called 'helljumpers' and are elite fighting squads, very similar to that in this series. But in the books troops were dropped en mass from orbit by cruisers, as opposed to the smaller drop ships sending down 5 or 10 troops at a time.
