Both sides shoot wounded opponents in this movie (this was well-documented in the battle for Normandy btw, and Hanks' character explicitly says "We do the same" when Caparzo is yelling about the Germans earlier on. In reality also, a 60 ton Tiger would have fallen straight through the bridge if it had tried to cross it, so either way, the krauts would have been screwed.

at around 1:20 when I saw this film in the cinema, I wondered to myself "hang on, why didn't the Germans flank to the left and encircle the yanks?" but then it's a Hollywood movie, so of course the SS guys don't think tactically at all.

While I agree with you to a point, this particular movie was about an American unit. The Russians have made plenty of films about WWII from their point of view. There are lots from other points of view. Enemy at The Gates (Russia), Bridge too Far (Excellent Film showing a lot of British Action as well as American). The Longest Day was about British and Americans in D-Day.

In this film you get the feeling that the Germans were crap!

I agree about the tanks of Germany! they where great and better than the Americans ! but the factor time and Pearl Harbor made it impossible too deal with that issue after the war! Yes now you can see the high tec machinery of war of USA and the old Russian tanks. Countries have too spend millions and millions of dollars too improve its army machines and in times of recession in the US and the world I think we are not going too see more modern tanks in years!

If you want to talk numbers.. The rest of the world was off in disney land while Hitler was purposely overpowering Germany for war.
His Germany actually outnumbered the allies (Not counting the russians because they sucked hardcore and relied on zerg tactics)
because he built his nation specificlly for war, and basiclly did a global sucker punch so to speak.
Nobody was prepared for a massive war, the allies were the ones outnumbered.
