I don't think a lot of people would be able to equate goodness with blowing someone's brains all over the wall, even if it was the joker's. They would certainly look at him differently after that, even if he did say it was self-defence. I don't know, maybe Harvey would be excused, but I still think Joker would have had the full satisfaction of knowing he pulled Gotham's white knight to his level moments before blowing his brains out
