  • @1:22 Johnny lets out a yell cuz the music's hot and he's loving it. Awesome!

  • legend mate, if i could have seen anybody live ever it would have been him.

  • Thank you for sharing this. Its great.

    Oak

  • If you're a musician and you didn't get inspired by Johnny... I'm sorry you just wasted your life !!!!

  • Love how the snare drum makes it sound like theres a train running through the concert.

  • This is how those who didn't witness the wreck would envision it. Those who tried to extricate the dead from the train, Southern #1102 on her side beneath four crushed cars and one intact car, alongside Stillhouse Trestle on 27 September 1903, had some bodies come apart in their hands, thus the "scalded to death by the steam" conclusion in the lyrics.

  • I dont know about everyone else, but country at that time wasnt the same sound as his. He had his own voice and style. I dont even think you could consider it rockabilly. johnny Cash was and IS Johnny Cash. no better way to put it.

  • king of country more like THE KING

  • @MrArceus7 nah, thats Elvis

  • i need to know some chicks that like this, elvis, and to wear pantyhose

  • woo Danvile Virginia baby! thats where i call home!

  • What a man ;-)

  • my VERY favorite song!!!

  • Great rendition by the Man in Black. You can almost visualize the locomotive belching smoke and steam, and heading toward immortality.

  • It's me The King of country just because I love all country songs

  • My fav johnny song thanks mam

  • Johnny Cash Rules.

  • you got me

  • I LIVE IN MONROE VA BEAT THAT YOU CANT

  • @Theaceofspadez1 I live in Spencer, NC! Put 'er into Spencer on time!

  • Boxcar Willie could not shine Johnny Cash’s boots! This is the definitive Wreck of the Old 97 version; comparing BC Willie and Johnny Cash is like comparing a moped to a Ferrari

  • he always did his best versions live

  • no way as good as boxcar

  • @cfdaf85340 Considering that Johnny recorded this live in performance a good 20 Yrs BEFORE

Boxcar Willie was even ever heard of, I'd say your Judgement is somewhat misplaced. For that matter,

I HAVE'NT Heard a single recording or release from Boxcar in the last 25 Yrs. Johnny Cash died with

an album STILL CLIMBING in the Charts which went Gold, then Platinum. Boxcar Willies "Fame"

did'nt amount to a fart in the wind. Which, incidentally, would have sounded better.

  • @cfdaf85340 'tard! but i guess your dumbass is still allowed to have an opinion.

  • One of the greatest guitar solos ever.

  • Johnny Cash is the king of country and a great American. Rest in peace Johnny

  • he will never die in my heart.greatest ass that ever lived.

  • Great song and very well preformed... Johnny Cash will never die...

  • j.c. johnny cash and jesus christ have the same initials I don't think that's necisaricarialy a coincidence if you get what i mean, either way he's the only god that i believe in

  • i agree it is the best version even though its live

  • Eternal thanks to Mom & Dad who bought this LP........I wore this out on the old RCA stereo in the 70's

  • God, I don't know why, but this song makes me want to cry! It's so sad!

  • Absolutely right. Best version ever. Sounds angry and happy at the same time. Bob Wootten is picking that Telecaster about as hard as any man ever has. Awesome.

  • best version ever

  • johnny cash, THE KING OF COUNTRY

  • @postbanes i thought that was george strait.. ?

  • @postbanes The King Period :)

  • Best version out there.

  • @etool782 Check out Lonnie Donegans' version. It's not on Youtube. But it's cracking! (this is not an arguement. I love Cash).

  • Right old wicked - RIP John - you were the KING

  • A true story too. Song is about a mail train on the Southern Railway company. Train was running late and the engineer lost control of the train because of speed and air brake failure. He did not get killed by steam though, He was found impaled[basically] into the mud at the bottom of the creek next to the bridge, happened in September 1903.

  • @CajonDS Indeed so the whole engine crew, and the clerks in the crushed cars were cooked after they died, thus the "scalded to death by the steam" conclusion of some of those in the rescue and recovery operation on 27-28 September 1903.

  • what a nice song!!! thanks for posting it:)

  • The best version Johnny Cash ever recorded imho. And never has the "freight train" sound fitted better or had such speed - the San Quentin LP was one of the very best live-albums he ever made. Thanks for putting it on youtube.

  • dead right, awesome version of the song... really epitomises the Bob Wootton sound, and yeah, that freight train's a-rollin'!
