@fsxfanatic When the engines are successfully started, the pilots will switch from power from the APU to the engines, the switching takes a split second. But in that split second there is no power to the avionics and as a result, there is a momentary "black out".
quick question. how are the flight controls checked for proper movement in the MD-88 there are no flight control displays showing the control surface deflection?
@luislaurencio MD-80 aircraft are not capable of making over-sea flights. They only have enough fuel for flying national or across state lines (in the states anyway, otherwise over certain countries in Europe). 767's, 777's, A330's, A340's, etc.. are capable of flying overseas.
im pretty sure their just using the rubber band to hold down their charts and checklists. If you watch the other videos you can see them doing just that,
overhead is the startvalve switch (ignition switch) which activates the startvalve in its open position, when this valve opens high pressure air passes through it, this rotates the pneumati starter which in turn rotates the high compressor (N2), behind the throttle are the fuel cuttoff switches, these open and close the fuel supply to the respective engine.
The first officer is holding the ingntion to on (ground). The captain is holding on to the fuel-flow lever, once the N2 of the engines is about 20%, he will raise the lever which introduces fuel into the engine and this is when the engines ignite!
On the overhead panel, the First Officer is holding the engine start switches, which introduce air for start into the turbine.
The switches behind the throttles are the fuel-control switches, which, at the appropriate N2 (turbine) speed, allows fuel to ignite, starting the engines.
The MD-80/DC-9 and some other aircraft require the First Officer to hold the ignition during start, whereas aircraft like the 737 or 747-400, allow the start switch(es) to be held in place for pilot comfort.
this is not md 80 camera!!

md 80 for long haul??????

I think he meant he went to Dusseldorf on the MD-80, to hop on another aircraft for a (long haul) flight to Miami. Probably via Zurich or Amsterdam.

On engine start, what buttons are they pushing on the overhead panel, and what levers or buttons is the pilot holding down behind the throttles??
dave4shmups 2 years ago 2
overhead its the ignition to be hold manualy, down the levers are the fuel switches...but they are rather levers also here. ;-)

On the overhead panel, thats the ignition. And the switches behind the panel, are the fuel flow switches... I think.
