  • The unknown solider: A hero, who gave the ultimate possession for his country, without being born to the world.

  • My dad wanted to do this, but he was one inch to short. Sucks, but im still proud of my dad. SFC Martinez

  • Guarding the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier is one of the greatest honors. Each guard spends hours meticulously inspecting his uniform before its time to serve. The shoes are given a mirror shine. Not a speck of lint can be found. The uniform is professionally pressed. Each guard serves humbly and with pride. This ceremony symbolizes America's respect for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

  • strutting peacock jackasses

  • @timeisupUS That strutting peacock jackass could kill your sorry ass you disrespectful fuck. He's got more honor than your life will ever amount to. Have some respect.

  • @armyaviationproud kill me for what I dont respect murderers rapists and fags .

  • someone shoot that bird already.

  • Our changing of the guard is not as "kickin'" as the Europeans -- USA needs a brotha to choreograph something less white and boring (yes I know Europeans are white but they seem to have it going on and US whites do not!)

  • 1:47 his service coat is a little big for him

  • johhny depps in the army, who knew

  • @dartheric Thinking the same thing.

  • They make me proud to have once worn the blue infantry braid, during the Cold War, and I only imagine what an honor it is to perform the duties that the troops in the Old Guard perform.

  • That was awesome.

  • Sgt Malcolm! He was in that interview I just watched. These guys are jaw dropping, its an absolute honor to watch them.

  • He could inspect me any day! (sorry) I just get cared away.

  • @hallie5309 Sorry! I should not make fun of it. And you know they take pride. it this!

  • Every time I watch is I get goose pimples

  • I love a guy in uniform. It makes me weak in the knees. Hansom. Why can't I meet a guy like that! So cool. I really like to see it in person one day.

  • @hallie5309,

I'll put a uniform on for ya!

  • is it loaded?

  • @kuronoha No there is no magazine in it. You can see very clearly

  • @hallie5309 ah!didnt pay attention to that part before, thanks!btw, any serious incident ever happened before there?

  • @kuronoha What? I'm not sure what your referring to.serious incident to who or what?

  • @hallie5309 serious incident.

  • @hallie5309 The M-1 had no magazine, it was a breech feed weapon 5 rds at a time.

  • The best in the world.

  • The US kicks butt...Period!!

  • When I saw this when I went to Washington D.C, I was very touched. The ceremony made me want to do something for this country. I'm considering military service.

  • When I saw the inspection the guy flipped the gun a lot more

  • This is an cool ceremony to witness in person

  • Proud to be an American!!!

  • I have a question about this video, how come the Sargent only shows arm stripes on this uniform?

  • Could be acouple of things.

The Guards are suppose to look the same all men are to be 6'0.

Or it could be simply that they have not earned Service Stripes.

  • @ThinkAndThenSpeak Hadn't earned Service Stripes yet.

  • @liljb72

the sentinels do not wear ranks or service stripes

  • @cheng2012

The Guard Changer wears rank if he is an Corporal or above. Guard Changers are usually Sentinels, although they may be a Staff Sergeant in training and will still wear rank and change the guard although he is is not a Sentinel. The Walkers never wear rank. Everyone wears service stripes if they have them, walkers, changers, SOG's, trainees...everyone in every situation if they have served for 3 years or more.

  • @liljb72

    ahhhh i see

  • @cheng2012 How do you know so much? Are you in the army or third infantry?

  • @hallie5309

i've got quite a few friends in the army and im actually a cadet at the moment

i just do some research every now and then when i get bored

  • @cheng2012 Question when did the guard change from the M 1 Garand to the M 14

    do you know!

  • @hallie5309

    im not sure

but i think it would have been in the 1980s-1990s

  • @ThinkAndThenSpeak This is incorrect. For one thing, women serve as sentinels, too! It is so that the sentinel does not outrank the unknown soldier.

  • @TransitiveSam (Erm, that was answering the rank insignia question, sorry for the confusion.) But the part about all "looking the same" still doesn't quite work, what with the women and people of color serving as Tomb Guards :-)

  • i saw that too......i thought non of them wore ranks so that they wouldnt outrank the unknowns

  • Do you mean his rank? If so, there is a reason. The sentries aren't supposed to outrank the persons in the Tomb, and since their rank was unknown, they don't wear stripes.

  • Because he is the Sergeant of the Guard, he has to have rank... the actual guards i assure you are at leas the rank of E-5, but they do not wear rank so as not to out rank the "unknown soldier" because, obviously no one knows his rank

  • tristsoldier (

Actually E-4 ranked soldiers walk the post as well.

  • i heard that... specialist can get that position, i never heard that, i think that's crazy, their command should at least laterally promote the guys to corporals

  • @tristsoldier I believe both of the walkers were E-4's during this video, although both finished their tours as E-5's, this is a rare video to see the S.O.G. changing the guard.

  • @rudly The sentinels do not wear rank insignia - regardless of their rank or time served - so that they do not unwittingly outrank the unknown soldiers! Relief Commanders or Assistant Relief Commanders or personnel in other roles (such as during a special event like a wreath-laying) wear their rank, but while serving on sentinel duty, the soldier does not.

  • Oh Oh.....Does Leninist imported to U.S.A ?

  • These young men spend 8 hours getting their uniforms and equipment in order prior to posting. It's doubtful a flaw could be found. And they do this no matter WHEN they will post. The changing of the guard still takes place exactly like this even at night when nobody else is there.

I know these men are Army, but from an old Marine I say; "Semper Fi".

  • @SkivMarine

And from a French Canadian in Latin too:

    Desirantes Meliorem Patriam.

Sharpest US ceremonial unit I've ever seen.

    My Respect

  • OOOPPPPSSS I meant to give you a thumbs up !!! Sorry.

  • My understanding is that they dress in their BDUs (utilities to us old Jarheads!) at night. They also train the new guards at night.

  • And I bet those utilities are spotless, and well pressed. :-)

  • argo84

Not sure about now, but in the 70's it was dress greens.

  • @argo84 Yep - Although its ACU's now, sometimes night training includes the new trainee's taking full night shifts in Blues, locked up, to get them ready for the fatigue the Blues creates on the body after hours of guarding.

  • @SkivMarine Thanks for sharing. I didn't know this.

  • @SkivMarine Semper F@gs

  • @timeisupUS I beg your pardon? I'm not sure what this means.

  • what would happen if the rifle inspector found a flaw in the rifle?

  • @zachbdube

impossible, it is already inspected before exiting barracks.

  • then why inspect it?

and: what if a bird shit on it or something like that? something happened to the rifle that the guard would not prevent.

  • The ceremony is a public acknowledgement that only those who meet the minimum standard, which is absolute perfection, are worthy to guard the tomb.

  • @zachbdude They would send the soldier back down to the quarters to fix the Rifle or get a new one, during the summer hours the metal will swell, and the weapon will not rack properly, and it does happen.

  • Do the other branches of the military also have their people guard the Tomb?

  • The tomb is guarded only by the US Army 3rd Infantry Regiment.

  • @quarqill No. It's Army only.

  • 8:42 do u really need a security guard , when you have a marine there?

  • They're soldiers, not Marines.

  • he is in the army.

  • I like the whisper at the end "That was awesome." Indeed it was!

  • When I went to see it, the Relief Commander was apparently new and less experienced so during the rifle inspection he fumbled the rifle a little bit and hit the hat of the relief sentinel. Was quite interesting actually.

  • Not to be rude but I figured something was wrong. I was asking if anyone knew what that certain something was..

  • yea it happens quite often actually, they could be removing some lint or adjusting a pin a fraction of an inch, nothing big really

  • @chaise91 The Buff Strap (what we wear on our left shoulder) went off-line when I grabbed the rifle from the sergeant, he was simply placing it back in line with my shoulder seam.

  • Do you know why the Sgt of the Guard fixed something on the relief guard's uniform? I couldn't tell from the video.

  • Nice photography simp291

    Thanks for sharing this video!

    Kat~

  • Where do those guys come from? Where do they go back to at then end? Is there some staircase or door that they go to?

  • There is a door off to the side that they go in and out of.

  • You can find out all the facts by going to Google and type in "The Tomb of the Unknown Solider"

  • hello?

  • yes????
