@gerardo239 YES! If you're anything like me, you're going to go through a phase where you're like, "Fuck this. I'm selling this shit for an mpc 1000." And when that $200 mpc comes in the male it's going to need $400 dollars in upgrades. Then it'll collect dust. You'll start to miss your 404. Then you'll sell your mpc 1000, buy a 404, save up more money, cop a blue mpc 2000xl, and use them both together to create the illest shit that only your mind is able to fathom.
@THEBURNZINATOR People are stupid. They assume they can only get MPC's from Ebay. I got mine from an online music store. Websites like Guitar Center offer waaay cheaper prices than Ebay. And, yes, JJOS is 90 dollars. Pad upgrades will run you 200 dollars. And if you're stupid enough to buy the RAM upgrade online that's like 120 dollars. That's 400 dollars. Do your math. The 404 is as great of a sequencer as you make it. You don't know what you're talking about. I've been through all of that lol.
@db0ywills welll..iv basicly been through it all considering i own a 1000 and had a 404 for a while before i sold it. What the jjos can do its WELLL worth the 90 dollars. You dont need the ram upgrade. and i never had to upgrade my pads since they never went out..and looking at guitarcenter the cheapest mpc1000 is about 900 dollars. if you can find them for 200 dollars...than you would be rich reselling them. 404 is an akward sequencer with shitty pads...but with awesome sampletimes and effects.
@THEBURNZINATOR The stock RAM provides 11 seconds of sample time, which is enough for a mediocre sample flip, and that's about it. And my 2000xl is beastin without jjos anything. Your pads are inevitably going to go dead. You'll be copping that upgrade. On guitar center, used mpc's run anywhere from $250 to $600. Grant it, at first the 404's sequencer takes time getting used to, but for it's price (approx $200 used) it's great. Cats like Fly Lo and Dibia$e have made astounding music with it.
Thanks for this video. I'm thinking about getting one of these, and I wanted to know if I could sample myself playing an instrument and then loop it. Now I have my answer! By the way, how did you get the clean piano sound on the microkorg? I have the same model as you, and I can't figure out how to get a clean piano sound.
I think, that guy, who did it, is a LAMER... yea - it's cool, and I'm understand HOW to record a drums, but music, what he did - SO STUPID! and drums isn't saturated - WHERE IS A SNARE!? WHERE IS A CRASH!? I don't like it.
hey man ill answer your question, dont know much about the mpd akai, if im right its a midi sampler? with the sp 404 you can use it anywhere on the plain, train you name it. a lot of artists use it, check out el guincho, panda bear, animal collective, madlib(sp 303) you should just google it... depends on your taste, hope this helps...
Is this how the professionals play live? because i know that the majority do not bring their synthesizers with them...and i am starting a techno band soon. I will buy the novation xio synth, so should i get this roland sp as well? the xio says its a midi controller, but i dont know. i will also proabbly buy the korg electribe or something...
the xio's a good choice. but idk if you could really integrate the MIDI part of it with the sp 404. The synth that you see in the vid is a microkorg and i usually sample myselt playing it into the sp 404. that doesn't really work live though...
is it worth buying the sp 404 ?

@db0ywills where did you get an mpc for 200...jjos is only like 90 dollars. and the sp404 is only good for its effects and not sequencing.

@db0ywills Well I should say, "You're pads are inevitably going to go dead if you use your 1k on a daily basis and don't let it collect dust."

brilliantred 2 years ago
that is the yamaha QY 10. its a little midi sequencer with some cheesy built-in instuments. I wouldn't suggest buying it.
scienceofsoundmusic 2 years ago 2
haha, thanks for the tip

a 12 pad drum machine as a sequencer, a little silly

@scienceofsoundmusic You were using it to sequence the SP?
The qy70 or qy100 are good to sequence old gear :)
