@brianthao102 This was at the time Japanese were entering China. Hence the samurai in the earlier parts of the movie. and katana are way more badass and durable as well as battle ready than jian. don't get me wrong jians are good, but katana's are to the point and easier to wield.

The Japanese are noticable by their lack of a queue hairstyle and of course, speak Japanese to each other in the movie. Jet Li's character defeated them on the way to this clip, then blindfolded himself as he didn't want to see his (former) society comrades die by his hand.

He is wearing a typical chinese clothing and the only japanese part is the weaponary which are katana swords. The changdao is the Chinese copy of Japanese katana swords when some of them was taken from Japanese pirates during the mid16th century by the soldiers of Ming General Qi Jiguang. The changdao is more effective than the larger zhanmadao to take down Mongol horses. These weapons are issued to Ming soldiers defending the border from Mongol invasions.

Well, historically stated, martial arts in the ancient times were rumored to have almost seemingly flying techniques (almost like ninjas) and that is the reason of the 10+ feet jumps, but in china, they call it ching gong or literally the martial art of lightness. Also the pressure point thing is real, but as far as freezing people, maybe not but it paralyze, hurts like hell, and may kill you if you hit the right pressure point. The movie may be fantasized, but not completely fake.

Were they katana? Japanese swords and chinese swords are very similar. Many weapons are mistaken for each other. Such as the zhanmadao and zanbato. These coulda been changdaos, which came before the katana.

This is also a movie where Sai Yuk can jump over ten feet horizontally without a running head start. Oh yeah, and Sai Yuk's mom can seemingly teleport.

It's fantasy. Their martial arts are supposedly so good that they have powers. On top of that, it's a comedy. This kind of movie is a part of a big tradition in HK cinema.
