  • I KNOW HER!!!!! SHE GOES TO MY SCHOOL!!!

  • She goes to my school! I talked to her and she's really nice and humble; which makes me like her even more.

  • @Korbeast what grade you in??

  • @sababa13368 8th

  • the girl is a very good violinist tooday but the vid is fucked up why you put this in yt?

  • To all who have argued over this video-I happen to know this girl and she is very sweet and always studying her music. She has just turned 18 and is the like-Super Prodigy. So you all can go along to your normal school leading an average life while she leaves for Germany tommorow.

  • haha thats so funny! im with violinmaster!

  • She looking at the violin like " if you mess up I will break you in half "

  • cursed video

  • typical asian kid. just look at all the related videos with asian kids in it. its nothing special really. whilst normal kids learn to play sports, get gf/bf and get a life. these kids practise this crap 24/7,

  • @redblazerpea your a fucking idiot

  • @mjsinno oh shut the fuck up you joker. I know so many chinese friends who play either violin or piano and they all started from a young age.. face it its the truth. its nurture over nature. get it through your thick head?

  • @redblazerpea ok, what up dude? that is VERY INSULTING. alright? i'm asianand play the piano. I ALSO PLAY SOCCER AND I DON'T PLAY 24/7. allright, she goes to my school and is very sweet. oh wait i'm sorry, is me being asian boring you? ok well let me go practice piano and get a life, because that's obviously what asians need to do. way to be racist. are asian kids not NORMAL? FUCK OFF DUDE.

  • @funsize289 yeah ur being boring. what would your parents say if you wanted to play bass guitar or the didgeridoo? im asian my self so how can i be racist haha u twat. im just saying there is a stereotype of asians and she fits it. as do a lot of my mates. chill the fuck out u dope.

  • @redblazerpe it's called HARD WORK. If you want to be a famous sports player, your gonna practice. For her, wants to be a famous violinist. don't call this crap >:(

  • @Yay456Woo im not gonna deny that. it is hard work. hard work does pay off. but for young children it just seems wrong. kids should be kids. and why is it mostly asians who start from the age of 4 weeks old? surely they didnt make the decision.

  • there's no emotion here

  • I don't get why people are always posting videos of young, accomplished violinists - with their age attached. As if a 10 year old playing Tchaikovsky's violin concerto is more amazing than Jascha Heifetz playing it. Age is irrelevant, we should be grading by passion. Instead of being the "Violinist - 11 years old," why can't she just be "Violinist" - - ?

  • @LlamaLlord21 I see your point, but something about a prodigy, just makes it seem so much more exciting to watch, i'm not saying that if someone older was playing it, it wouldn't be good (lol sorry i fail at using commas xD)

  • Bravo!!!!!!

  • No to mam problem. Jest dobra. Ale nie ma oczu nieskośnych.

  • No. Tu.Mandolina i skrzypki w jednym. Taka jest tendencja.Prawie kombajn.Ale Świetnie.

  • yo where can i get a violin that sounds this good.. i notice all ameteur violinists on youtube, their violins don't have as good a tone as the one in this vid.. can anyone help me out??

  • @Ironsixx This girl probably has a much more expensive violin. There are different grades of violin depending on your level. So obviously an ammeter would have a different sound than a violin like this. if you want a violin like this prepare to pay. Also the violin cant make up for poor skill for some it might just be their technique thats lacking now the violin.

  • I'm in San Antonio and have been following Nancy since she was 9. She had her debut two weeks ago with the San Antonio Symphony and it was GLORIOUS. This young woman is the future of virtuouso and it is breath taking. Only 17 and what you are hearing now is trash compared to the beauty she creates now.....It will be one of the great pleasure of my life to have witnessed her true first debut. Once in a lifetime!!!!!!!

  • haha, kind of mean to say that this is trash.

  • @MyMemories19 r u dumb this is not trash this is good

  • @333mrbeast You idiot. I didn't call this trash; someone else did! MORON!

  • @MyMemories19 lol my bad so sorry =)

  • its BRILIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a glorious future awaits her if she gets the right training and encouragement!

  • did i just get pwned?!

  • anybody who is debating musicality is losing sight of the fact that this young lady is 11 and has developed fantastic technique. an amazing accomplishment alone. it just goes to show- there is always some out there better. no matter what level you are. so just enjoy the capabilities of the instrument- and this talented young musician.

  • I'm 19 and never get a true education in violin. I just play it myself and I guess that I really need a real training and classes to be like her... Anyway even if no sound, we can still guess how's the violin would sound by looking at her face expression

  • the video skipping at parts was annoying...bu that was fucking brilliant. i'm 17, and i still can't play like that.

  • that was awesome for bloody 5 min she played dat wat a kid... i want to play as good as her aswell...

  • Your realy good , im 15 and i play the violin to its nice to see your talinted.

  • wow how stereotypical of u loser

  • shes really good

  • are you retarded....Shes 11 years old you fucktard. Most adults could not play that piece.

  • sorry but you don't know what your talking about.

  • I think that that a first violinist in a top orchestra need not play it better than this.

    But she is only 11!!!!!

    True music?

I think Eli Choi will have it ALL by the time hes 11, or even earler.

But on the other hand, I dont think we can judge musicality from a Paganini caprice!

  • I agree at you

  • @patvln, I think things that you are talking about are hard to determine. I personally hear a lot of music and passion in her playing. I think you are just assuming things based on stereotypes.

  • Why is the video sped up at certain moments ?

  • Violin Kung-Fu... lol

  • @Sylfira She plays so well the camera cant even take it :3

  • i actually got the privelage of being in the same orchestra as nancy. i was even her stand partner once!! she attended my skool after coming bac from the world contest and she agreed to a concert playing this piece. she was the soloist and the first practice when she went into the variation with the plucking we all stopped and stared at her and all the first violins forgot to come in at their parts!! im not sure if shes homeschooled now or wat but it was really cool to meet her!!!

  • she goes to keystone private school in san antonio

  • she haves no life, but it isn"t her fault

  • why are they like fast forwarding it?

  • Muuuito bom!!! adoraria tocar igual a ela^^parabéns ^^

  • Does anyone have her Johansen International Competition recording?

  • hi! were playing the same piece for violin... im 12 years old so im quite older than you... and also i play piano.. try searching voice of the heart for piano and little fairy waltz for piano.. i play those and my specialty petit chien.. i love to play that piece. sorry i cant post my own videos here

  • Wonderful! Not just technically perfect, but also heartfelt. I think this is the most mature performance I have seen of this piece by such a young musician. Keep it up girl, you've got it :)

  • I take cello lessons with her dad, long zhou, and everytime i go, she's always practicing.

  • We live in SA, and my violin teacher is trying to convince me to take lessons with Nancy Zhou's father. I think I'm going to have to seriously think about it!!...

  • I heard she just won the Johansen International Competition for strings. She was also awarded for the best performance of a commissioned work.

  • she used to go to my school in sa town

  • thats amazing.... !!! :)

  • I've seen a lot of videos of this piece, but I haven't seen any better than this. Bravo!!! :)))

  • i play the violin too, i am 11,but i don't play like that!!

  • lol same. i could probably do that if i train nonstop for weeks haha

  • same same same i guess

  • ??

    .

  • a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

  • So I hear that when she got a little bored of being the very best on the violin, she took up the cello and landed 1st chair with that too!

  • very cool!

  • I wish could play that cause im 11

  • she looks 14yrs old.

  • Ahaha funny, she's amazing, I give her kudos!! I'm 15 & play the liszt piano transcriptions and they are insanely difficult so I can't imagine the violin original pieces difficulty level!

  • SUPERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • dam i'm like learning symphonie espagnole and tried that and couldn't do it. Very hard (paganini)

  • im 11 years old i just did vidvaldi itscalled storm im doing devil's trill keep playing the violin its really good

  • AMAZING

  • very very good.

  • well after hearing how she practices its no surprise that shes this good.

  • how long does she practice per day?

  • like 3 hours without stopping. When she was preparing for that contest in poland she was actually home schooled so she could practice 8 hours a day.

  • OMG!!! I'm 12 and I can only play double violin concerto by Bach, but SHE IS INDEED BEAST!!!!! she must be one of those people who start at birth!!!!

  • holy crap. im only 14 and played violin for a few years, but WOW she is BEAST!!! xD

  • are your comments (below) suggesting that maybe i'd sound better if i were asian? i'm black, and i take pvt lessons but i still think i suck. ggrr and i started when i was 8.

  • lady ladusais better -.- battle' of the asians

  • She makes me change my thinking that the Chinese prefer only Chinese musics.

  • wow thats just amazing.

yeah im chinese too but im 100x worse!

im not bad but im no nancy zho!

  • Good playing, just too bad the video quality isn't so good, but good player. There really needs to be more good Chinese violinist and I think she will become a even violinist as she gets older. I'm impressed.

  • Great!!!

  • wow... she's really good... =0

  • 표정

  • faster D:

  • i love u!!!

  • 很好!!

  • Jesus...cant u make a productive comment...

  • Wow! my friend went to middle school with her and said she was amazing, and now I see why. She told me that everyone would compete for second chair because no one had a chance of beating her to first.

    :]

  • haha i went to school with her too :]

    she was so amazing

i saw her in a high school performance after she left eighth grade

HOOLY is all i could say :)

  • well done.

  • only 11? fantastic!

  • J'ai le droit d'être jalouse???

  • 就是一个生来拉琴的,貌似哈``

  • I heard her play at the masterclass for Nodja Salerno-Sonnenberg. It was around 4 years ago, when she was 11.

After hearing her play, Mrs. Sonnenberg said that there was nothing to teach Nancy.

What an awesome player she is!!

  • im pretty sure there is always something to teach someone

  • whyb are the chinese peoples so good at musics

  • I'm not exactly sure...Though I am Chinese myself, I can't say I'm exactly REALLY good at music...Though not bad. If I may say so myself. ^.^

  • wow, she looks so into her music!

    bravo!

  • bravo!!!!

  • Excellent technique, especially for her age. This is about four years old; Ms. Zhou is 15 now. She recently won first prize at the Future Stars Competition (which is based in San Antonio).

Nancy's father is Long Zhou, who studied with Fredell Lack (I could write several pages about her incredible life if I had a mind to). In addition to being a violinist with the San Antonio Symphony, he teaches privately, with a specialty in the Suzuki Method.

  • Long Zhou not use much suzuki method ,He has his special method to teaches his students

  • I'm glad to hear that, because I'm not a fan of the Suzuki nethod. Too many students end up being masters of technique and devoid of interpretation.

  • 3:40ish.. isn't this variation supposed to be in harmonics?

  • I didn't think so, but I'm not a string player XD

  • omgomgomgomgomg.........i will never accomplish how great she is.......even tho i could EVENTUALLY play this....hehe....amazin anyways!!!!!!!!!GREAT JOB

  • Bravo!!!

  • PopOmg, you have sick mind and pig ear.

  • thxs ur so sweetttt she so good thats why i sayed that dude

  • i wonder how much her violin costed, shes amazing =]

  • She's very good !! <3 I can play that too if I practise a lot, but I'm 14 year and she's what ? 11 , that's very very good :):)

  • i know her!! Shes in San Antonio, her dad is my violin teacher (btw this is actually SpartanPhoenix12 (my username) im just on her computer looking at how to be nerd).

  • she's in my world geography class<3 she's sucha sweetheart; i love her<3

  • weren't you going to be at the strad competition in salt lake?

  • increible brillante perfecto!

  • Why does it seem that all the good players are Asian?

  • amazing!!!!!

  • you can play five instruments but i hardly doubt that you are a pro or expert at it because an instrument such as the violin requires your lifetime to learn everything

  • and even then, you STILL don't learn everything!

  • for the violin or any instrument? yes its true the violin has a lot of stuff to learn.

  • great

  • i love how around 2:50 she makes faces with it =]

  • Wow, she is really amazing.

Uh, and hey, why can't anyone play five instruments?

That's just stupid to limit someone's ability if you don't even know them. For example, myself.

If I told you I played six instruments why wouldn't you believe me?

Baritone, Trombone, Piano, Cello, Violin, and French Horn.

Some people are just that musically talented. <3 lol.

  • tnx so much it feels great to have someone actually believe you. by the way how old are you? I am hoping to start harp soon. thats pretty amazing that you play six. keep workin!!

  • amen! you must be super talented! which did you start first? and which are you best at?

  • i can,i play the flute,piccolo,violin,clarinet,and the harmonica.

  • Still, many of us haven't heard of this single violinist..or even know the names of musicians of our time except those of classic composers like Bach, Pagagini, etc. maybe b/c "many" of us aren't musically-inclined to classical music.

  • silverfind is very annoying

  • I go to school with her.

She's in my geography and orchestra classes!

  • Amazing

  • I think asians have a natural talent for music

  • lol no it's actually called a work ethic, any race is capable of doing this - the only natural factor one could cite is perhaps the build of one's body. Yet, even that can be easily adjusted to and overcome. She didn't wake up one day and decide to play this caprice; she worked her ### off for many years to get there. and she did a fine job :D

  • um no im not asian and i play 5 instruments

  • do you REALLY think that I am gonna believe that YOU play 5 instruments? who else believes this person? i don't think thats true. i think ur making this whole thing up. so stop plz

  • ok fine dont believe me but i play french horn, piano, drums, violin, and piccolo. i wouldnt make this up bcus i love music its my life. besides if i was making it up, dont you think i would have chosen different instruments to lie about? NO im not lieing its just that music is my passion, and i pursue it. if you fail to believe me its not my problem its yours.

  • WAIT. I think i might know you, you sound so familiar, by the way im 14 too, but are you Kastle? idk you just sound like my friend

  • never mind i dont know you.

  • why is that so hard to believe? my cousins and uncles play a lot too. so uh you can stop plz

  • soooooooooooo unfair y can't i play likethat!!!!!!!!!

  • It's REAL GOOD.

  • I think this piece is a little too hard for you. In the beginning it was good all that notes were correct, good dynamics but as it was going and going it was ........too rough.

  • That was great! The intonation was basically all there, and it looked like she liked what she was doing, and felt feelings for the music.

  • i agree with Cata5462. Her techniques are good but the tone is not nice. It should be smooth and light

  • which country is she from?

  • i think either Japan, China,or Vietnam.

  • Zhou is a Chinese name.

  • I think Paganini wrote this piece just to torture violinists. It's hard to imagine a more challenging piece.

  • Isn't the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto considered the hardest technical piece there is?

  • no... Wieniawski Concerto #1 or stuff by Ernst

  • She used to go to my school too!!! YAY! to bad she's in high school now

  • Her right hand is bad, and her sound is really rough. She shouldn't try to play something that is much too hard for her. And what's with the fast forwarding in some places?

  • "much too hard for her?" come on, she plays it beautifully. Think about it- Eleven years old and she plays it almost perfectly in tune. Her tone is fantastic, but not perfect. I'd like to see most other violinists play it this clearly.

  • she plays amazing! its not too hard for her! she was the only american to go to poland for a world wide wide competition with people twice her age. theres just glitches in the video. but anyways, let's see you play this piece perfectly.

  • shes dressed like Chun-Li XD cool

  • paganini- Caprice no.24

  • whats this song called?

  • Wow, she is really good..

She plays better than.. never mind.

    But you get my point.

I sure as heck couldn't do any of that stuff...

  • dude. she was one of my friends last year.

then we went on to high school.

    and we stopped talking.

    so tragic.

i never got to hear her play unfortunately though

  • nancy went to my school last year, and nobody but orch dorks ever acknowledged her... we always told everyone else how amazing she is and they just noded their heads! someone this talented needs more credit from everyone!!

  • No shoulder rest? That alone is a feat to me - I can't survive without using at least an extremely thick, soft and fluffy towel!

Why's the bit around 1:13 at like 2x faster?

A comment on the actual music (finally): the 2nd, 4th and 5th variations should be faster, as should the left hand pizzicato be.

  • if u look closer , she does have a shoulder rest

  • Interesting

  • Ya...when she went to my school last year she was like....super duper awesome...made me jealous... :P I think Nancy's 1

    1 in this...

  • wow she like goes to my school lol....

  • She is really amazing, but she looks older to me that 11 years old. If you know her and you say she is in your orchestra, maybe it is true. You never know.

  • shes in my orchestra at school

    well, she isnt 11 anymore...shes a freshman

  • this child is amazing. She is doing a great job. Adults- dont knock children for what they do. I guess your parents did that to you and thats why you have such low self image now! an adult that insults a child is pathetic. You sound beautiful- there a lot of scholarships and opportunities for talented kids like you!

  • She is so amazing. In fact, she plays in my orchestra and goes to my school. I'm not kidding. Lucky me!

Wow. First of all, that is the most racist comment I've ever seen. So what if she's Chinese? A black man can be as good as her if he tried. Stop having your stupid biases with different races.

  • I believe the "lack of emotion" crit is often a back door racial dismissal. These same mousepad critics will then go on to write about the greatness of Heifetz. Oh ya, there was a violinist oozing with emotional playing. It's a total BS comment from people who probably lack both technical or emotional appreciation.

  • I LOVE her performance skills! I like the way she kind of "gets into the music" kind of thing. Great going!!!
