I had a great uncle who fought in Africa with the Africa Corps. He was a Scots Guardsman and I got him talking about his experiences every now and then after a few scotches. It's a wonder any of them stayed sane. His unit took 275 casualties out of 400 strong unit. Asked how he handled that and he don't worry it wasn't all one sided and that was it.

Soviet Union was much more involved in fighting in Europe then the US. And they had much greater military losses, look at Stalingrad, kursk, and leningrad. They inflicted much more casualties to the Germans then US.

I had a great uncle who fought in Africa with the Africa Corps. He was a Scots Guardsman and I got him talking about his experiences every now and then after a few scotches. It's a wonder any of them stayed sane. His unit took 275 casualties out of 400 strong unit. Asked how he handled that and he don't worry it wasn't all one sided and that was it.

The war just turned out that way. By 1942 the world was at the brink of collapse from two totalitarian nations hell-bent on outright imperialism and expansionism. The allies worked together, through hell and misery to bring down two empires that would cease to give in. After ~70 million deaths in five years, it's kind of hard to argue exactly the reasoning behind everything, other than we did we did and it only created more problems.

And you're right, there is no just cause to bomb civilians at all, and I'm not fully educated enough behind the reasoning for places like Dresden and Hiroshima to be bombed. But, a lot of cities, the allies dropped leaflets on telling the population to get out, and gave them a few days. They didn't. Cities have infrastructure valuable to a nation's economy, and are vital for defeating an enemy. Everyone was guilty for the cause of WWII, and we all payed for it dearly.

They killed him because he had oppressed and killed them for many years.
