in actual fact the 85 renault here never would have reached 1500hp as no f1 car did... around 1250 hp at the most but only momentarilly.the 86 renault v6 only reached 1300hp in qualifying and around 850 in race trim.1986 was when f1 was at the most powerful with the last year of no restrictions.the BMW motors reached around 1400hp and were known to be the most powerful at 5.5 bar...so yeah i have heard of 1500hp by many people over the years but this is just not possible
Paul Rosche of BMW motorsport claimed that the fuel additive (which Renault argued was illegal) for the BMW turbo 4, meant they could charge 5,6 bars. The dyno only went up to 1400hp, and the engine exceeded that. So they never knew if it was 1420hp, 1450hp or 1500hp. Naturally that was what they got out of the engine in testing. In qualifying they used 1200-1300hp, and that meant the gearbox was scrapped after the qualifying session.
@schuey7wc Not having the hard facts to dispute your claim, I clearly remember Ayrton Senna's qualifying lap for Estoril, a record that lasted quite a while there.
That year, Renault engineers removed the wastegates of his Lotus in a do or die manouvre that payed back.
Later they estimated the engine was using around 7 bar of boost, making around 1500hp.
Although there is no proof of actual figures, no one can claim otherwise, rather than the folks directly involved.
very nice sound!!!
