The voice of an angel! If you'd like to hear a host of angels sing a glorious version of the Ave Maria text (plainchant setting by Richard Clark), type "ave maria clark" in the Youtube search box or follow the link below. ENJOY!
He's brilliant, his high notes are spot-on and he is a true angel on Earth. I miss Tom Cully from Libera who left the choir in 2009; he was a treble just like this guy. God Bless Libera.
I recorded myself singing this song as well and I cannot for the love of me understand how youtube can tell you that this song has a third party match content if I sing it myself and the composer has died many years ago!!!
One of my favourite videos from all the history of Libera (after all, this is part of how it all got started). I love their voices, the conviction with which they sing, the robes, the simplicity, the way the choir joins in at the end - it is all incredibly moving. And it seems to be sung live. What a precious moment, thank you for uploading!!
This is how it's done...so beautiful. I used to sing this when I was in my church's girls choir, but only when little boys sing it do you really hear it done properly. I can still remember all the lyrics by heart. It still brings a tear to my eye after all these years.
Thanks Gustav. It will take some doing but I shall seek it out. To my mind Vatican 2 is an apostasy and the changes mandated with a stroke of a pen undermine the entire foundation of our Faith. To suggest that the miracle of changing bread and water into the body and blood of Christ is no longer a required article of faith is blasphemy. THAT is the entire premise and purpose of the Mass. How can a miracle which has stood for over 2,000 years NOT be a miracle any longer but merely a "suggestion.?
Nothing to my mind brings us closer to what I imagine Heaven to be than a beautiful Latin Hymn sung by these angelic voices. The Catholic Church has replaced these hymns with "folk masses" in order to bring the church into ecumenical fraternity with the rebellious Protestant sects/cults which rebelled against the Church and began their own brand of Christianity. These majestic hymns are eternal; like the Lord God Himself and should never be replaced.
Look for an "usus antiquior/extraordinary form" Mass in your area. Since the Holy Father's 2007 motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, which liberalized the traditional Latin Mass according to the rubrics of 1962, they've become much more widely offered. Even many "novus ordo/ordinary form" Masses are returning to traditional music. Pax christi.
Your video is vey good and you do have very compatible voices.
This St. Philip's Boys'Choir Video was one of their very earliest when the choir was still quite traditional. Can I suggest you view some the more recent Libera videos to see what can be achieved with boys' treble voices once the restrictions of tradition have been removed.
he do it well, but but not mega fantastic! Watch my Panis Angelicus video. We are amateur and we only song in choir 2 years, but we have the angel voices! Thumps up!
Panis Angelicus means bread of angels. The above translation is the goofiest thing I ever saw. Panis Angelicus is a song about the true presence of Christ in the eucharist.
Hi boyscout403, I launched this video on YouTube some four years ago along with "Be Still My soul" and "Light the Candles". They were copied from a VHS tape recorded by a St. Philip's Boys' Choir enthusiast from a BBC (UK) broadcast. They were three of the fourteen tracks on their first album "Sing For Ever", released in 1988.I have these three videos on a DVD. Contact me if you'd like a copy but bear in mind VHS quality is only marginally better than the YouTube vids.
@paulban Hi, I would love a copy of the VHS Tape, and would be will to pay for S/H if you could send it to me. I have some fairly impressive video editing tools that i can employ to enhance the video of Vhs tapes and would be pleased to send you a copy of the resultant DVD. The original format can be enhanced since it is not compressed. please contact me at rpatton@cpsbiz.com for further information.
@boyscout403 Sam and Jaymi are magnificent and recognition should have been giving them. I guess it's sad in some ways that the loose those magnificent voices as teen age hood set in.
God give them to us to enjoy for only a few short years, so let us be thankful and enjoy their beauty while we can. Libra has always been my favorite; they have a way with the music that overwhelms the listener in the same manner as "Les Petits Chanteurs À La Croix De Bois" do in acapella.
@frchrisheffernan Hi, St. Philips Boys' Choir, Norbury, UK. Recorded July 1987 before release of their first hit album "Sing For Ever" in 1988. Featuring soloists Jaymi Bandtock and Sam Harper. If I can help with sum other selections I would be please to do so. Boy's choir is very popular genre now and their music is timeless. I would suggest acappella music (voice only) as it provides the listener with a much richer sound of the boys voices.
@paulban Yes, I would love a copy of the DVD or VHS tapes (rpatton@cpsbiz.com). I have some outstanding video enhancement software which may work to bring out some detail. Do you have any way of retrieving the original; if it's not lost It would be my pleasure to bring out the beauty of the video. IT does not do justice to the boy's performance, I assume the issue was lighting was the main problem. What a beautiful version of one of my favorites, along with Pueri Concinite.
"Fate che i fanciulli vengano a me !"
You are right about the boy's names. Their voices went very well together. however they were never part of Libera. Jaymi & Sam sang from around 1984 to about 1989 on recordings released as "St. Philip's Boys' Choir". They are not mentioned on the recording from 1990 released under the group's name of that period, "Angel Voices". 1990 to 1998. It was for the release of the CD "Libera" in 1999 that the first use of "Libera" was made as the group's name .
They sing really good.. I hope they also sing good with a true heart and true understanding... :) "Bread of Angels, made the bread of men; The Bread of heaven puts an end to all symbols: A thing wonderful! The Lord becomes our food: poor, a servant, and humble. We beseech Thee, Godhead One in Three That Thou wilt visit us, as we worship Thee, lead us through Thy ways, We who wish to reach the light in which Thou dwellest. Amen."

Oh I know ... but Jaymi is the boy hitting the 1st Soprano notes. The notes are so clean and pure. I just wondered how low his voice went when it changed. :)
