  • Surely it wouldn't have run this painfully-slow on a real Atom? If it did then it must have been written in BASIC rather than machine code.

  • I'm sure it's an emulator issue, the game originally ran much better than this. The emulator itself is a vintage DOS application which was last updated in 1999.

I've got it running myself here via DOSbox, going to do some experiments with the timing.

  • Oh this brings back memories. I built an Acorn Atom from a kit in the summer of 81, spent hours playing this and other games.

BTW which emulator was used to create this. Was it MESS? Reason why I've ask, I've got the Atom MESS emulator to work, but found no way of getting programme tapes or disk images imported into it.

  • Emulator: ACORN ATOM EMULATOR v1.33 (c) Wouter Ras, Delft, Oct 1997 - May 1999

Instructions: Run "Atom" in DOS mode.

Press F9 to insert a disc and load a program with "L" command.

Some programmes will then require you to type the command RUN.

  • Thanks for the info. :)

Just to let you know I've now got Wouter's Acorn Atom emulator working in DOSbox on a Mac. So it's an emulator running an emulator. But it seems to be working OK, and can now relive those old games and have a good time.
