  • Hi Drummerman77, Yes, I still need to find a tape of the opening titles for Madhouse, also for Smiley Face.

  • sal, this is so amazing. i do notice the theme to madhouse is missing and use the same animation titles. am i alone or from :58 seconds to 1:03 i can hear the percussion from walk like an egyption snuck in there?

  • @DRUMMERMAN77 Walk Like An Egyptian should have been played for the opening credits. In My Wildest Dreams is a lovely song but Walk Like An Egyptian would have suited the cartoon better. Goes with the sequence - the Egyptian cat etc. Plus the setting was in Ancient Egypt before Emma was taken to the 1980's. I've been saying this same thing since 1987. They should have used the classic Bangles hit

  • @AmericanEvita but in the 58 second mark to 1:10 u can hear the distinct percussion of walk like an egyption in there , i believe that was confirmed

  • @DRUMMERMAN77 It sounds like it but it's so quick and hardly noticeable. They should have just used the song Walk Like An Egyptian. It fits the cartoon sequence better. But o well, I was just a kid in 1987 and couldn't make major decisions for movies LOL

  • sal, this is so amazing. i do notice the theme to madhouse is missing and use the same animation titles. am i alone or from :53 seconds to 1:03 i can hear the percussion from walk like an egyption snuck in there?

  • We the hell can you get this damn song!? I have been searching for this relic for EVER, but is one Belinda's best tracks. Honestly I think it's because of the pairing of the animated sequence with the song that I love the song so much. I only wish I could get a damn MP3 of it with no bonkers sound effects too.

  • AmericanEvita, you're absolutely right. In fact, the producers tried to get rights to that song but couldn't work out a deal. I really wanted to animate to Walk Like an Egyptian.

  • I love this animated cartoon opening sequence, the best for any 80's movie. However, I've always thought that the Bangles hit Walk Like An Egyptian would have suited the cartoon better by 100 x. The Cat Mummy, the Egyptian dances/moves she does, is perfect for this sequence. And Walk Like An Egyptian was huge signature 80's song, even for '87 everyone would have loved it

  • i love this song

  • I was in elementary school in 1987 when Mannequin came into theaters. I saw it around 1989 on TV in LA's channel 13 then known s Very Independent. I was an 80's kid in elementary school but hey i was there! I love the opening sequence and it grabbed my attention as a kid. I'd like to know the title of the song and the artist. Is this the Go Gogs or Belinda Carlisle ?

  • I just saw Mannequin on TV last week and it brought back lots of memories. What a great movie!! It's one I wouldn't mind seeing made again. Even as a kid I always thought the main title sequence was brilliant!!! I completely understood Emmy's journey even as a youngster. So glad to have a chance now to congratulate the person that made it possible! Great Job!!! :)

  • I have loved this movie FROM DAY 1! it is more nostalgia for me now, though. When I was a kid it was just plain fun, and the credits are truly inspired! This song and Alisha's "Do you dream about me?" are two of my most favorites from the 80s. I paid through the nose to obtain Alisha's out-of-print CD that the song is on since there was never a soundtrack. I will never regret it! Thanks for being awesome!!! :-)

  • Good movie - i had to wait 34 years for my Emmy - but she came :)

  • Any chance the Belinda Carlisle track is still in existence without the sound effects in the background? Did they ever consider making a soundtrack for this movie? It's probably the most coveted cult classic soundtrack that was never made.

  • @Ivegotjoy74 The only place that might have it would be Playhouse Pictures in Hollywood but I think they've closed shop. They would have had the mag film before they added the efx. Or maybe 20th c fox in some vault but doubtful.

  • This was done by you? Fantastic! This was/is one of my favourite childhood films. Watching it now infact. Always loved the title sequence, well done!

As an afterthought, is it the same team that worked on the animated sequence in the Twilight Zone movie where Nancy Cartwright is sucked into TV Land?

  • @PinkFreud101 yes I designed and directed both- multiple animators on Mannequin, main animator on TZ was Mark Kausler.

  • life lesson: whenever there's a movie with a cartoon title sequence, you know its going to be complete garbage

  • I love the song. And this movie was awesome. I watched it all the time. It came out when I was 7. I have loved it for 22 years.

  • I've always enjoyed this animated sequence. By the way, did you also work on the animated sequence in 'Loverboy' with the mexican car hitting on the other cars? After discovering your work, i felt i had to ask you this since the style is similar to the one for 'Mannequin's opening sequence. I'm an aspiring animator, myself.

  • @Launchpad05 yes, I did the Loveryboy titles too but I haven't even seen them since it came out. Good spotting! Good Luck!

  • This was always one of my favorite opening credit sequences. Love the song and the animation. Animation is looks similar to the animation done on Better Off Dead.

  • Did you help animate any of this, or was it all other animators doing your dirty work? ;)

P.S. This has convinced me I need to buy your DVD. Your animation is too great. <3

  • This is one of the few where I didn't animated any of it, just designed and directed it. Buy it for all your friends too! ;-)

  • Damn, Sally! I THOUGHT you did these too! You had opening animated credits on lock in the 80's. I'm subscribing!

  • thanks junedeon. too bad I didn't get many chances. Did a full board for Blake Edwards"Blind Date" on encouraged spec and that went nowhere.

  • if you did, then you rule :)

  • Dude, relax. You are 80's pop culture history. Few of us ever had that chance to make these kinds of cool contributions to that fantastic decade.

  • WoW!!! Great post!! I will always remeber this movie and the goofy music. Nice!!!

  • thanks gerorozco (not an easy name to say!)

  • I love this movie, and was obsessed with it when I was a kid, and until I saw it recently, I always remembered these opening titles! for 20 years!

  • Amazing how it's stuck in people's minds.

  • I love these opening credits! There is so much fun stuff going on I had to watch them a few times to absorb it all! The leering dinosaurs on the down time-elevator and when she inflates the flat world, WOW!

  • It's s nice to read this. It all goes by so fast-- you've got quick observant eyes.

  • I like how the animation keeps moving, directing focus to each name.

  • This cheered me up a lot back when my parents were fighting like crazy and almost got divorced. So, thanks for that. It's still awesome. Baast rules.

  • er, Baast? *confused*

  • Egyptian cat goddess. ^_^

  • the song's pretty good, and the cat lady is kinda cute. i was always curious about what the title animation for "Mannequin" was like, after hearing Joel and the Bots commenting on the title sequence for "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

  • Oh man, I LOVED this film growing up. The titles were so much fun! Great job!

  • thanks. It seems like a film that was just right for that particular time.

  • Love it! That's some plot hole alright. But you did it. The credits are my favorite part.

  • Thanks, Vycky.

  • woeee...!!! It would be great if somebody post full movie ;)....if any pleaaaaaaaaaaaase let me know...

  • That scene where she inflates the globe for Columbus, Kim Cattral actually remarks that in the movie. "I told him the world was round and I never saw him again".

  • That is so funny to me!

  • I had a copy of this movie on Betamax (I still have it actually). I remember when I was a kid watching this cartoon opening, and several times rewinding it so I can see the cartoon part again.

  • Hey I like the this movie And I like the song.

  • hi im trying to get the original soundtrack, any ideas? its sooo hard to get this song anywhere...im desparate!!!!! you are a genius for making these titles!!!!

  • I don't know where you'd get it now. It would have been on 35 mm mag film when we did the titles, but the production company wouldn't have archived that. The funny thing is, this isn't the song we wanted to use. We wanted the song, "Walk Like an Egyptian" but couldn't get the rights.

  • really? i think this was the perfect song for this film, and lets face it its now an 80's classic thanks to your design and Belinda's wonderful voice.but it is a shame that you cant get hold of the soundtrack.so many people are missing out because of this.

  • Hahaha when I saw this movie I thought the main titles looked JUST like "Face Like a Frog"! Now I know why lol

  • What always stuck out to me about this movie was indeed the opening credits, animated sequences before the beginning of movies back then were often my memorable then the movies themselves! The 'Mannequin' sequence was one in particular, whenever 'Fox' showed it on Saturdays I'd always catch it right after the live action sequence ended, and this began. That always excited me for some reason because I loved watching it...it'd have my full attention until it was over, and the movie itself started.

  • Thanks, your note really cheered me up.

  • thank u sooo much, i couldnt find this song anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm 24 and remember this movie and this song, In my Wildest dreams but who sings it? Thank you for the posting

  • the beautiful Belinda Carlisle

  • me and my mom watch the movie tigether alkl the time, my fave oart is the start when these titals are on, but i love to movie all the same

  • Its sad that this song was never released :(. AH WELL.

  • an insperation!

  • I am also a 27 year that saw this movie as a kids and always remebered and enjoyed the opeing part. It really left an impact on my childhood memories (positive). Great job...

  • It's really nice to read that so many of you liked these titles. I never felt they were as good as they could have been, but maybe I'm too critical.

  • gud tune tune fantastic film 80s 4eva

  • I saw the movie Mannequin on TV only a few months ago, and when I saw the opening titles I said to myself; "I bet Sally Cruikshank did this!"

  • does anyone know the name of the group that sings this and the title of the song?

    Thanks!

  • It's Belinda Carlisle singing

"In My Wildest Dreams." At first they were going to go with "Walk Like an Egyptian" which would have been more fun to animate.

  • Thanks! I like the song. Now that you mention its Belinda Carlisle, I can see that. I dont know why I didnt pick it out right away.

  • Yes and unfortunately the song never got released. You can only get it as an mp3 track with all the background noises from the opening credits but it's better than nothing. Great song, should have been released as a single.

  • Interesting info, barnsleywiccan. I never liked the sound effects on those credits, but I wasn't in charge of that.

  • so is the real song only 1:42 in length or is that all you can get of it?

  • Unfortunately this is the full length song. Shame as I think it is fab

  • Oh, I agree ...

It's SO much better than that awful "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now."

  • Cool opening. Switcher!! I thought there was a pretty good cartoon ending to "My Super-Ex Girlfriend." Anyone see that movie?

  • i love cartoon openings like this. but you don't really see them anymore...

  • Oh yeah, remember the cartoon opening to Honey I Shrunk The Kids?

I think I like cartoon openings better than cartoon endings. An opening feels like it's setting up the idea for the movie, while an ending feels like it's just killing time.

  • I love it! :)

It has a fun, funky quality about it.

  • This opening sequence has been with me my whole life ever since i was a kid. for some reason tonight I looked it up. Glad to see it's hosted by the actual maker - kudos :)

  • thanks for your kind comments. It's interesting to me that this title sequence seems to have affected people more than Ruthless People, which I got much more praise for at the time.

  • I love the opening credits for Mannequin...the song and animation just make me feel so happy. Thanks for posting!

  • Mannequin IS my favorite movie! I remember seeing it in the theater in 1986 (I was 10!) Also lived in Philly for a while and yes, I've been in the Wannamaker Store in downtown Philly where this movie took place:) Great City to visit.

  • Laughingsal, Thank you for posting this video. This movie was one of the great highlights of my childhood. I saw it 5 times in the theatre. I loved this song. I remember the sound of it in the theatre. So great! Thanks again!

  • so nice of you all.

  • these are my fave openeing credits for ani movie!! great job!!!

  • omg could you plz put the movie on here! i have allways wanted to see it but i cant find it any where!

  • No way you designed and directed these titles? How awesome I grew up with this movie I use to rent it on vhs over and over haha It's definately one of my favorites from my childhood (i'm 24 now)...and I use to love this sequence wow you did a great job! 5 stars! =D

  • Me too... I can remember the credits and the song to a tee. Its sad that its not shown more often.

  • you're welcome!

  • This was one of my fav movies from the 80s!Thanks for posting...loved the animation.
