This is going to be my first year doing relay for life and I couldn't be more excited.
I'm doing it for my dad that had multiple types of cancer that fought for a painful year. He died a few days ago. My walk will be to remember him and support people who were or are in the fight like he was.
@justinbodrero Yeah ur right but i have gone this anyway because it's fun! Luminara ceremony... Has got to be the saddest part. Last year in the survivor lap my cousin and my grandma were holding hands and walking the survivor lap for her.
It was so sad because i was walking right behind them with my mom. she doesn't have cancer but she's our team leader.
@angelcute72 yes i love relay! yes the luminaria ceremony is sad... and its hard to keep in the tears when seeig my friends luminaria bag.. but its one of my favorite parts... me and my mom do 2 relays.. one from the town we moved from.. and the one we are apart of.. well this year at the town we moved from.. i walked with my mom through the survivor lap.. and i had that joyful feeling knowing my mom is alive! its a great event.. my relay is actually tomorrow and i cant wait!
It's great to be with all friends. It gives me so much hope. The power i felt just by walking was incredible. We saw a giant thing that said hope that was lit. I said to Crhissy, "If we have hope, we can get a cure." We remembered her friend Tracy's mom. i never knew her, but Chrissy said she was really nice. I said we've walk for her, and I wish i knew her. We talked together after at her campsite.
Last night, I was at Relay for Life near Boston, MA. I was walking during the silent lap with the bagpipes playing with my sisters friend, Chrissy, who is 8. I'm 12. She said, "Why can't they just find a cure?'' I said, "I don't know." I know it's more complicated then just finding a cure, theres alot involved. But i think if we believe and hope, we CAN find a cure for cancer. After a teen told his story, he cried and hugged his family. One girl sang a song for her mom. We cried together.
girl93 you have no clue do you.why don't you do some research about suppressed treatments for cancer and you'll see the truth.your just another brainwashed kid in society who beleives all the bullshit you've been fed about this money makeing industry.
hey asshole, work on your delivery would you? Realize that once you were brainwashed as well. until you stood on the shoulders of giants, you were still an ignorant person.
Please make your transistion to human quickly!
This is a new renaissance we are trying to promote!
There's a time + place to vent political beliefs. I believe the pharmicutical companys keep the"cure"out.
It's not stopping me from walking for my Mother, your mother, father, sister, brother, friend, or whoever we know that's been touched by cancer. We will try anything to cure our loved ones.Even if RFL was a pharmicutical empire cloaked in a mask of "non-profits" I will give it a chance even if only to feel the support of other "brainwashed" striders
I would watch what you say kid. I am an ambassador in the Greene County Relay for Life, and this means the world to me. I've been doing this for 11 years and it's scums like you who make me absolutely sick when I hear such words said about this. If you dislike it fine, but don't you ever say that. The Relay and the talk of cancer is a really touchy subject. You might say the wrong thing to the wrong person someday.
A very thoughful comment. I appreciate the effort relay for life does, cause I'm a cancer *treatment* survivor. These events always lift my soul becuase people still have heart, and its in the right place.
As for governslayer's comment, don't take it personally, many people are furious nowadays, because of the fact that the institutions we fund to "find a cure" really only want to find a cure they can market.
I appreciate your comment..but I honestly will say that I can't stand to see people such as him/her to say such things...in the Relay for Life that I'm in, I actually flipped out on a group of people such as that who had entered it. I'd told them after I yelled that if they hated it so much why'd they even come? If they had no reason then I highly suggested that they should leave and not downgrade and dishearten those there.
Anyway I hope things work out well for you and keep fighting. Gl!
I have been doin this for about five years. It changed my life completely. Im 15. when i was 13 i had a really good friend die of cancer. I just moved to Utah a year ago. I have gathered a team from my school together. only one of them so far have done it b4. My team has about 20 people that have never heard of it before. All it takes is HOPE!!! Together We can find a CURE!!
Bravo! I love the enthusiasm! I've survived cancer, its a shame about your friend. Do his memory justice and sincerely pursue theinformation i'm about to give you.
Dr. Brouwnstein has been curing breast cancer with iodine, inwomen who could not be cured by conventinoal medicine.
His video: "Iodine: The most misunderstood nutrient"
Rick Simpson has 140 sworn affidavids from cancer victims who has been cured from his hemp oil, for free.
Congrarts ParapaDrifter! I'm a survivor too. I had leukemia 19 years ago when I was five. I'm the Survivorship Chair for the Relay of Boston. Keep smiling, and keep Relaying! :)
@justinbodrero Yeah my best friend has a burden on his shoulders because he promised his best friend he'd go to relay for life, and he was on our team but then he moved and they couldn't find a cure for her cancer so she passed. But every year i put a flag up in memory of her. She was really nice. This was when we were both only 9 in 2009.
@angelcute72 your friend would be proud of you for doing this for her.. and your bestfriend should know its not his fault he moved.. this is why we do relay.. so we dont have to see people this way in the future.. this year im the youth committee chair of my relay... to this day i walk in memory of my friend.. every year im so excited for this.. because i love it soo much... it shows that even us kids can make a difference
This video is amazing! We were supposed to see it at our Kick Off Event tonight but due to tech. issues we weren't able to. I am the college advisor for the American Cancer Society Youth Council for our area. In the US 1 out of 4 people will be diagnosed with cancer in virginia that statistic is 1 out of 3 and in my home town 1 out of every 2 will be diagnosed and half of those will die. But the work of Relay is slowly changing those stats. Good luck to all 2009 Relays! 25 years!!
For The First Time Ever Me and my Family did Relay for life this year In Memorie of My Grandmother who passed away last year sept 19 she had colon cancer and then at the last minute it spread everywhere.Next Year On Feb 28,2009 Me and my family will be Joining Relay for life once again
I am so pumped for my college's Relay For Life in March! I am a survivor and the Survivor Chair for our student-committee. I'm going to a New England Relay Leadership Summit this weekend and I am just so pumped for everything!
I am a volunteer for The American Cancer Society and this will be my 5th year participating in Relay For Life. Relay is about hope and celebrating our cancer survivors. The money raised goes towards all sorts of services like sending children to camp and offering college scholarships, and having christmas parties for children. The money also goes towards education, advocacy & research. I am so passionate about making a difference. I believe that once you do your first relay your life will change
Sorry Governslayer I only take advice from people I admire and you are definately not one of them. Maybe if you had gone about it another way, other than bashing something I truly believe in, and sensoring your language I may have taken the time, but I don't see why I should take advice from you when you can't even make a post without using harsh language.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
thats okay you keep going on in life and help raising money for the industry.your just another person in society who the cancer industry loves.harsh language or not i,m quite sure you won,t do some research into the supressed treatments of cancer.i will continue to keep bashing this pile of crap
Just wanted to inform you that I did do the research, and I'm still gonna be involved in Relay next summer. Relay is not just about raising money, it brings people together, it provides hope for the future, and it is something I believe in. Not chaning my mind!
Definitely, It truly is a supportive community with a heart in the right place. I know, I'm a survivor. I make it a point to "relay" information that I've come across that will cure people's cancer. I hope you would consider it. I hate to see well-meaning people to be taken advantage of.
watch these videos, please I only wish to propogate this information renaissance occuring now:
Dr. Brownstein's "Iodine: the Most Misunderstood nutrient"
Really? Wow. ACS and the RFL does not support drug companies, etc. And believe ehat you want about what the research does and does not do, ACS also provides FREE wigs, medical equipment, emotional support services, lodging and transportation for cancer patients and their families. We may never find a cure, but we can help those living with this awful disease. Do YOUR research and then try paying for cancer while under or not insured. You'll find how much a free ride and/or wig helps.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
we may never find a cure.just keep the money flowing into this pathetic industry.another person who don't want to hear the truth.ahhhhhhhh you have no clue do you.
Like I said, indirectly they do support the drug industry by glossing over natual remedies, or holistic medicine. They don't consider it!!
They don't do clinical trials of natural cures. ACS should at least talk about them. But are contented to keep people ignorant of how easily cancer can be cured.
They will not find a cure. They've no need to. They are in the business of curing slightly; otherwise they're efforts would be retroactive. I say cure completely!!
first don't swear on the message board, it makes you sound ignorant. Second, this message board is suppose to be positive and give people hope so if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!
I totally agree with you Bears08. Relay is about hope and optimism and i'm pretty sure governslayer is preaching to deaf ears cause there is no way my mind will change and i'm pretty sure yours won't either. I'm not giving up Relay and everything it means to me because somebody who doesn't even have the decency to censor their words talked bad about it on a website it just makes me want to work harder for the cause.
bears08 and cmarie2009 are you going to do any research on supressed treatments of cancer.like i said, read the book i mentioned.i,m sure you won,t because you have been led to beleive a certain way.you poor gullible people.
Money raised through Relay For Life is used by the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. Not all research is solely for the purpose of curing cancer, but rather the best ways to treat cancer as it is diagnosed. Also, medicines to help reduce the risk of re-occurrence (like Tamoxifen). Taoxifen is a drug that came as a result of an American Cancer Society-funded researcher and reduces the risk of re-occurence of breast cancer over a 5-year period. Supressed medicine? We do NOT.
I only seem to think about finding cures.thats what it,s suppose to be all about, correct, cures and better treatments.why don,t you check out the book I told you about or are you afraid of the truth.check out the story about essiac herbal tea on youtube.you have nothing to lose.you,ll find out that you,ve been lied to all your life.
I am a 23 year old woman who had leukemia at age five. I have been in remission for 18 years. Relay is much more about more than just rasing money for a cure. It's one of the few places where I can proudly celebrate my survivorship and not feel stigmatized. Relay means so much to so many people! Why don't you actually go to a Relay before you post these horrible things!
governslayer you are RIDICULOUS!!!(and that is putting it nicely! Have you ever been to relay? Have you ever witnessed the emotion? Obviously not, because nobody who has would say that about such an amazing experience. Relay has been the highlight of my summer for the past seven years. I love everything about it. It is an optimistic atmosphere where you can meet some incredible people. I don't know what I would do if they cancelled relay in my community. God Bless all those involved!!!
your another person in society who,s been mislead by this pile of bullshit.why don,t you do some research on supressed treatments.read my other comments also.
It was an excellent video. My niece Amy in Salinas, Ca. sent me the video this year, and last year she did the same. I am battling cancer, and I know I will beat it. I am in Pennsylvania and what wonderful tribute to the survivors and to those who did not survive. They will always be in our hearts.
Amy and Eric thank you so much for getting involved in the Relay for Life.
hello aunt helen, greetings from the the west clark county relay for life in vancouver washington.my thoughts and prayers go out to you.just so you know the salinas relay is in the top 2-3 relays in the country as far as funds raised.they do an incredible job....
I found out last week that my leukemia has returned and the fight is on once again. But thanks to the Relay for Life I will have untold support of my fellow survivors. I take this opportunity to say thank you to ALL those that support the Relay as well as the families and survivors. GOD BLESS
today our entire school saw this video. We have a relay for life team. Our's is the largest in the state of Georgia. We have many survivors. We are doing many things. We have raised a mile of quaters for a Cancer Survivor her name is Sophia. We are having a big Relay Fair. Please come to the Gwinett COunty Fair Grounds. Please come out. Our Team motto is "Abra Cure Dabra" and PLease come out and support us we are staying up ALL NIGHT becuz we no that cancer never sleeps so why should we? Thanks!
I lost my Mother to breast cancer 4 years ago. I was 18 then and I remember being so scared and angry. It was events like Relay For Life that really helped me to heal my wounds. By talking to cancer survivors and their families, I no longer felt alone nor helpless. I may not be a cancer survivor, but I walk for my mother and for all those who have been touched by cancer. I love you all.
I'm a Survivor! I had leukemia when I was five and I've been doing Relay since I was 9 which was my first year off treatment and I just love it! Its really a source of healing
Thank you liljadeyrocks11! I've been cancer free for 18 years and so have many of my friends and its because of the thoughts and prays that people like you send us. I'm so gald you're doing that for Sophia. I wish I could come and support you but I live in Boston so it might be kinda hard for me to get to Georgia but I do wish you and your team all the best in the battle against cancer.
I'm looking forward to my 14th,15th, and 16th relays this year! My 6th year doing relay. I look forward to it all year long. This will be my 9th, 10th and 11th relays on committee. Can't wait!!
Under the video, you should see a link for "Share" with a picture of an envelope. Click on it and then follow the directions to send the link to your email recipients.

Yes my friends, criminals in our government deleted academic studies of cannabinoids. There were many more.

Exactly, however, it's possible to outgrow the organization. It's never about the organization RFL, but about the community that attends.
Therefore its a perfect place to spread knowledge that a painful many have not come across! This is why I go. This is what it's all about.
Its not political belief, what does that even mean??
This is lifestyle and medicinal beliefs. "Trust us, we're experts" is fast becoming anacronistic.
"Trust yourself, it's your body" is the new maxim.

I'm going too... to proclaim that I've got the cure.
Iodine cures it >50mg/day
THC in the form of Hemp Oil cures it
Cancer is simply cells in your body that are doing an archaic form of cell respiration, sugar fermentation. --
The key to curing it is either destroying the cells, or forcing them to respire oxygen, which is normal cell respiration.
The Revolution Renaissance is upon us all.

If you don't interest yourself in your health, then who will?
THC is one of the cancer cures, if you care enough about your lives , then you should research this, and fund people who already have cures!

people need spoonfeeding... Please be their big brother and take care of people. Don't be haughty towards them, you were once ignorant too.
ParapaDrifter 2 years ago
Like I said, indirectly they do support the drug industry by glossing over natual remedies, or holistic medicine. They don't consider it!!
They don't do clinical trials of natural cures. ACS should at least talk about them. But are contented to keep people ignorant of how easily cancer can be cured.
They will not find a cure. They've no need to. They are in the business of curing slightly; otherwise they're efforts would be retroactive. I say cure completely!!

Ok Governslayer,
first don't swear on the message board, it makes you sound ignorant. Second, this message board is suppose to be positive and give people hope so if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!
Bears08 3 years ago 2
I totally agree with you Bears08. Relay is about hope and optimism and i'm pretty sure governslayer is preaching to deaf ears cause there is no way my mind will change and i'm pretty sure yours won't either. I'm not giving up Relay and everything it means to me because somebody who doesn't even have the decency to censor their words talked bad about it on a website it just makes me want to work harder for the cause.

bears08 and cmarie2009 are you going to do any research on supressed treatments of cancer.like i said, read the book i mentioned.i,m sure you won,t because you have been led to beleive a certain way.you poor gullible people.
governslayer 3 years ago
Money raised through Relay For Life is used by the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. Not all research is solely for the purpose of curing cancer, but rather the best ways to treat cancer as it is diagnosed. Also, medicines to help reduce the risk of re-occurrence (like Tamoxifen). Taoxifen is a drug that came as a result of an American Cancer Society-funded researcher and reduces the risk of re-occurence of breast cancer over a 5-year period. Supressed medicine? We do NOT.

"Not all research is solely for the purpose of curing cancer, but rather the best ways to treat cancer as it is diagnosed. "
how much goes towards curing cancer? 20%?
Does research include unpatenable substances, or is research purely geared to medicines that can be marketed?
People, please ask good questions, you are spinning your wheels otherwise.

I only seem to think about finding cures.thats what it,s suppose to be all about, correct, cures and better treatments.why don,t you check out the book I told you about or are you afraid of the truth.check out the story about essiac herbal tea on youtube.you have nothing to lose.you,ll find out that you,ve been lied to all your life.
governslayer 3 years ago
Ok, I don't think Essiac Herbal Tea would work on five a year old child, maybe adults, but not children. Chemo may not be perfect but it works.

Governslayer,
I am a 23 year old woman who had leukemia at age five. I have been in remission for 18 years. Relay is much more about more than just rasing money for a cure. It's one of the few places where I can proudly celebrate my survivorship and not feel stigmatized. Relay means so much to so many people! Why don't you actually go to a Relay before you post these horrible things!
Bears08 3 years ago 3
governslayer you are RIDICULOUS!!!(and that is putting it nicely!

I will love you both forever.
Love

I lost my Mother to breast cancer 4 years ago. I was 18 then and I remember being so scared and angry. It was events like Relay For Life that really helped me to heal my wounds. By talking to cancer survivors and their families, I no longer felt alone nor helpless. I may not be a cancer survivor, but I walk for my mother and for all those who have been touched by cancer. I love you all.
